- If you are curious about sharing files with Dropbox then video will be beneficial. In the past we have covered some of the more standard ways to file share, however in this video we will offer a bit of a refresher. We also discuss a way in which to request files from team members in a way that's simple, organized and effective. Check it out, it's sure to make file sharing with Dropbox a bit easier.

It has been years since I used Dropbox. I had a need for someone to send me a 4.5 gb video file today and figured Dropbox would be a good way to do it. I created a folder to share but I couldn't remember how to share it. I tried one way but to no avail. Your video gave me the answer. Thank you.

I accidentally saved some sensitive files into a shared dropbox folder on my PC because the stupid desktop program made the dropbox folder my default 'save as' location. This folder was created by someone else (admin) as a shared folder who gave me edit access. I tried to delete those files on my PC and also online. Will the folder owner be able to view/restore those files?

Question: I have Regular Files and Shared Files displayed on my personal account info page. If I delete regular files I open up more space, however, I don't know how to delete "Shared Files" to open up more space. Is there a way to do reduce/delete the shared files so I open up more space? Thanks..

Hi Steve, i know this video is focused more on file sharing in Dropbox, but my question is more about photos. I just moved away from Windows 10 and now using an Imac. Do you have any inside on how the Apple Photos app works with photos in Dropbox? I guess I'm looking to share photos from Dropbox with the Photos app. Ids that possible?

Hi Steve, thanks on the helpful vlog. I'm using Dropbox and Google Drive together. Google Drive we use in our family to share all photos and documents. Since I am the only one paying for extra space we started moving the whole photo archive into my drive from where I share it with the others. I'm the owner of the photos, but still the 15GB space of my wife that was used stays used although she emptied her Drive... How can I empty her Drive space? Would you be able to come up with a vlog on file sharing with Google Drive? Thx man!

Nice video. I wanted to ask - I and my editor share same account on our systems. I have uploaded 300gb video files on dropbox. So, can he use these files without downloading the 300gb files simply by using it through the folder or they will have to download ( or sync first) to use these video files?

Is there a way to mirror a folder in dropbox. If I have a copy of an architects drawing and they later modify the original drawing can my copy also be modified so I always have access to the latest drawing?

I am an actress. I often use Dropbox to send my audition video in. I personally don’t have drop box but I’m send a link to add my video. My agent wants the video labeled. How does one do that? When I send the video the link is quite long. How would o change that to name it or rename it? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Please and thank you!!

Steve hi, hope all good. quick question please, as you're the guru. I want to use dropbox for the drag into dropbox and drop. at the same time removing it from my laptop, to save storage. Dropbox support sadly less than helpful. IS there any criteria for this? I end up with folders in dropbox and my laptop ? I don't want smart sync, just manual control , any thoughts welcome please. cheers B

Sharing a Folder with View Only capability is great, however how do I restrict the viewer from going "up" in the hierarchy and see MY OTHER folders on my dropbox? Currently the rest of my dropbox is an open book. Darned if I can figure out how to restrict their access to the folder that I am sharing with them
I think you must have a setting wrong, are you certain? If that is the case reach out to Dropbox support, something is amiss.

"Copy Dropbox Link" isn't shown from my dropdown options. In fact, from my Mac, it appears there isn't a way to directly share folders any longer.
I have placed some files in a shared folder in my dropbox and notified the sharer . How can I tell when they have read or downloaded it/them so I can delete them.
I can use the file request function but Dropbox limits me to where I can have the file sent. I want them sent to a subfolder but the capability doesn't seem to be there...

Hi, my concern is the secondary party whose sent a link with editing ability. I shared a file on DB, it sent/added the secondary party, but what is their experience, what do they do to get into the file and edit? how do they get back into the file and edit as needed?... I've searched high and low on YT and cannot find this answer. Thanks
If someone posted photos to Dropbox, and I had to create a free account to look at them. My question is, can I mark on the photo in my dropbox - or will that affect her original? Is the photo I see in my dropbox a copy that I can mark up or is it her original copy? Thank you

Thank you for this. I'm having a crazy issue and hope you can shed some light on it. I opened a new folder in DropBox and share it with two other people. Now four files have been uploaded and I need to make a security copy of them into a non shared folder that only I can access. The issue is, that when I copy them, the wording I get is "Copy Link". What link? It's a file. I want a copy of a file, not a link to the shared folder.
The second issue is that when I try and erase the "copy link" that occurred, Dropbox asks me if I want to delete it everywhere in my computer and doesn't give me an option of saying "No, I just want to delete it from this personal folder, but I want to keep the original one that is in the shared folder". So I say cancel. Am I now stuck with an issue where my security file in my personal folder is just a link back to the shared folder where if someone in that shared folder changes anything in that file, the file in my personal folder gets changed as well since it is just a link? Or is it that the person that shared the file shared a link back to a document in their computer vs literally uploading a file? Please help! I am confused and as much as I google this issue, which is very wordy, I don't get an answer.
Hi! I don't really use Dropbox and I still got the full storage of 2GB from my free account. Somebody shared a large file of 9GB with me via Dropbox and I just couldn't access it. It says "not enough space to access folder".
I always thought that it doesn't matter how much space the receiver has, as long as it isn't full, for the receiver to access a file. In my understanding shared files uses the sender's storage until ownership of files get transferred.
Care to explain?
Is there a way to see when someone who has received a shareable link via email actually opens up that link? perhaps a chrome extension?

Sure you can hook your iPad up to dropbox and transfer files back-and-forth that way

But when I paste it in the address bar, a Dropbox window opens and asks me to sign up or sign in.
Is it possible just to view a content of the folder without having an account?

Because i have the mobile version and there is no possibility to put an expiration date, it is always off. And that's fine with me, since I don't want it to expire. Can I rest easy? Thanks a lot and great job!
Steve hi, beard looking good :) . question please Steve. I have keynote slide presentations with voice over. trying to send to people, and dropbox either doesn't work, or I don't know the trick. Off a mac, and one person has a mac the other windows. Steve, is there a way, so when it is sent they can download, open, play and hear the voiceover and have the slides run. one receiver keeps getting 'file encrypted'. Any thoughts, thanks Steve. B

A questions though: i) By sending that request to Liz, can she continuously send you files (ie. different ones relevant to your folder) or cant the link be used by her several times for different docs? Is there a way to access Dropbox files without so many clicks? Could I set up my own file request to myself? Once I navigate to a file, is there a way to save it to my computer for one click access without losing sharability? I have to access several files in a certain work process and being able to streamline it to a one click process (per folder) would save a lot of frustration. Thanks!

HELP. I right click a Dropbox photo and choose "Copy Dropbox link" and nothing ever gets copied? This is happening on a PC with Windows 10 and my other new Windows 11 PC? What am I doing wrong? When I go to paste it ANYWHERE there is nothing to paste?

What if you upgrade your Dropbox but the other side doesn’t? Then you’re screwed. I upgraded to 1 TB but my GC animator only has 8 GB on his Dropbox. Guess what? Dropbox requires him to upgrade also!!! That won’t fly. Leaving Dropbox
Yep.. 8GB for free is not much indeed (Should be 2Gb). Good luck finding an alternative.

There're a couple of ways to do it.
You can protect your video on your website or within a service like Thinkific, but there will always be a problem with asking people to register before you share content with them before you've engendered a level of trust. The concept of building email list, is at the heart of content marketing. In my opinion the combination of sharing public videos on youTube, combined with high-value webinars where you do ask people to register is a great combination.

1.I put a DROPBOX link on my website. 2. When it is pressed. It takes them (potential foodies/customers) straight to my DROPBOX account. Where they will upload a VIDEO file. But, the file request doesn't show an option to upload from your cellphone. Why? Because, I am requesting ppl to use their cellphones to make it easy for them. Also, they will make a video using their cellphone.
3. I already have a DROPBOX ACCOUNT. But, I want to create a BRAND NEW one just for this?

hi, dropbox has recently changed the way i can link to files and its a pain in the ass...
i post 'images' and mp3 files on forums, but now instead of people being able to just see the image or hear the mp3 instantly, now i can only post a 'link'....now, this link that i post does work, however when people click on the new 'link' way of doing things whilst that link is thinking about opening, people can briefly gain access to ALL my files....just a heads up to anyone who is also pissed off about this new way of ''sharing'' files...beware.

Interest and useful however, as with all the tutorials I have viewed no-one mentions that if you send the file to another person's email - just to view, not to edit! - it requires that the recipient have and knows how to use DropBox. They cannot open the file without DB experience... Same with Google Drive. This complicates sharing files to very basic computer users!
