  • Steam cleaning and auto detailing. The two MOST DEFINITELY go hand in hand. On almost every detail we perform at Hawk Pro Detailing, we use steam. Check out the video to see what we use -- and why!

Just used a steamer for the first time today to deep clean my car interior. In a word.......AWESOME. Used your advice. Work quickly when using around leather, vinyl. Perfect. Nothing got too hot, nothing damaged. Did not use around instrumentation. Where it shined---DOOR JAMBS! Good freakin' gosh man......emulsified the dirt in short order. Another area. FABRICS and CARPETS. WOW. Deep cleans those suckers like no other can and probably sterilized them too! Granted, I only have the McCullough, but i'm just a weekend driveway detailer and will never use it professionally so the McCullough works perfectly fine for me. Came with so many attachments i'll never use them, but the two main ones to have are the Triangle head, and the spray tip head. I used those extensively. And I wrapped the triangle with a microfiber for use on all the fabrics. Fantastic. Two enthusiastic thumbs up for a steamer in car detailing. One of the best "tools" or "toys" you can get for detailing. My second most useful tool for interiors is my George numatic extractor. I love that thing and it truly sucks out some incredible amounts of GUNK you never see with the naked eye. I don't care how much you clean, scrub with a brush, wipe with a microfiber, it doesn't matter. When you suck out that crap with an extractor and pour out that BLACK WATER, you realize you must have an extractor for effective deep cleaning of fabrics/carpets/mats.

You need to mention how steam will kill flea eggs, bacteria. Some people have their pets loose in their car, so the steam is absolutely the most effective and nontoxic way to get something clean. I'm looking into buying one for my own personal use more in the house. I never eat or drink in my cars, nor allow others to do so. It's not a restaurant and that's that.

I went to the chemist of a carpet company and he says you have to be careful what you promise with steam. sanitize vs disinfect etc etc it's all very technical and while I love steam apparently it doesn't do ALL the health-related things some detailers claim as far as total cleaning goes

@ W G road tar melts using prep solvent and 100% clear coat safe.. xylene id stay away from for very bad for us,and acetone is a NO NO .. acetone eats epoxy which is 1 of the toughest chem, and FYI car finishes contain epoxy for durability.. alsp always use gloves handling any such chems.. try some acetone on a nitrile glove and see how it breaks into shreds .. mineral spirits also good..even kerosene works if my memory serves me correct ,and these100% clear coat safe for automotive refinishes. But kerosene i use always for greasy or dirty engine oil smudge sludge removal and best motorcycle bicycle chain cleaner beats any fancy packaged store stuff.. cheers

Like the examples. Noticed you said that you use Bead Maker on the door kick plate. Even if you knock it down with a microfiber towel, aren't you concerned about the plastic being slippery for the customer because of the slickness Bead Maker leaves behind. Maybe a plastic trim dressing like Stoner Trim Shine or the equivalent would be safer.

They make dry ice machines now that are utilized like a steamer. They primarily use them for undercarriage, but they are safe for the entire vehicle, interior as well. I am using steam to clean the headliner of a Mazdaspeed 6 that has HEEEAAAVVVVYYYYY marijuana tar in it. The tan headliner is black and very difficult to remove and deodorize. Steam works the best but still takes quite a while, coupled with some enzyme products.

@@HawkProDetailing nah I got like 90 percent of the smoke out, it was so so bad. The tar was so thick and black on the headliner it took up most of my time. Door cards, seats pillars, trunk. On top of that he has a white pitbull.......and head sand everywhere from his last beach trip. Interior hadn't been cleaned in years. What is left is the vent cleaning, a second round of ozone, under the seats, and some of the really difficult spots even my skinny hands can barely reach. Usually you should not use chemicals in combination with a steamer, because of inhaling toxic vapour. It's better to use only the steamer. This is one of the most important pluses a steamer has, you don't need chemicals anymore.

Just messing with ya....loved the video! Seriously...
Actually I'm a mobile detailer myself...and I loved the cheap Harbor Frieght steamer ($100 bucks) last year in my own business...nothing works like Steam...true...buttttt I sold my Truck n Equipment last fall....(tough financial times here)....so this spring I'm working on the idea of simply using Really good spray bottles...Really hot water w/ non toxic PH adjusted diy cleaners...(vinegar, peroxide, baking soda,borax...etc)....
But my concept is....HOT WATER w/ just a bit of degreaser effect added....is a miracle worker. A couple years ago I worked as a Pressure washer in the Coal Mines...and we used Hot Water burners in the pressure washers...and I was AMAZED at how quickly and thoroughly Hot Water cleaned the most filthy dirty, oily, and grimy machines the mines had....and it greatly enhances ANY degreaser...
So for all those of you...poisoning yourself with harsh toxic chemicals :(...consider using natural products mixed correctly for maximum results...with steamer or a spray bottle with hot water...your gonna get awesome results....ok..off my soap box I go.....lol.
    I liked and subscribed btw....

I use an industrial steam machine, every day for car interiors, cannot live without it. My machine has 8 bar of pressure a built in detergent tank, and vacuum for extraction. An amazing machine and leaves the material a lot dryer than a hot water extractor. Sofas, carpets mattresses it can do it all. I am mobile and gets me loads of clients who want something more eco friendly,at the same time killing germs and sanitizing.

@@HawkProDetailing Sure of course, especially when using the gun attachment, I make sure it doesn't touch any plastics being a brass tip can melt into it. Same goes with any machine if not used the right way. I have had some burns though but that's part and parcel of the job, some people tell me it's a problem with dashboard consoles as the steam can get behind the Speedo and fog it up, but I have never had a problem with that. Obviously I don't put alot of steam down, and like you said move it around quickly. I mainly use it for seating and flooring with the flat plate and micro fibre plus using the gun on the air vents. I am careful with leather though and prefer to use the steam gun after using a magic eraser with some APC. I do mobile car detailing plus domestic cleaning like sofas, carpets and mattresses with great results. I am based in Malta in Europe. Great video I will subscribe to your channel as always looking for good tips from professional detailers.

If steam at the temperature of boiling water can hurt anything on the interior of a car, then the materials are definitely inferior. In electronics water, or rather water with impurities, can cause problems and with cheap little motors like the steppers in gauges. But the truth is that in manufacturing everything is exposed to temperatures of 250 deg or so in the solder reflow process then cleaning in dishwashers. If the car interior is hot with some air circulation the water will evaporate from everyting. Hot like heater on full for 30 minutes while idling without recirculation.
