- In this archival video from December of 1980, John is on the Late Night Show with Tom Snyder. We see the first performance of Perhaps Love, which shows the vulnerability that he was experiencing personally and professionally at this time.
"Perhaps Love"
Perhaps love is like a resting place, a shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort, it is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble when you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home
Perhaps love is like a window, perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer, it wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself and don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through
Oh, love to some is like a cloud, to some as strong as steel
For some a way of living, for some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on and some say letting go
And some say love is everything and some say they don't know
Perhaps love is like the ocean, full of conflict, full of pain
Like a fire when it's cold outside or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever and all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

Absolutely perfect - never ever tire of this beautiful song….sung by the best….ever 😢
He is a LEGEND
❤ oh my heart! JD sang this the month I was born! (Dec. 1980) How far out!
I love that you're a fan born long after his zenith...far out indeed!
@@brendaruthalpert hey oh yeah! My Dad listened and so we grew up hearing his music.... I've just recently rediscovered JD and his music and message and everything! ❤🎶😊
Possibly his prettiest most true composition!
Perhaps love is you ❤❤
I like John Denver's voice and music and I am 28
I'm always pleased when even the very young have come to know who John Denver was and appreciate him and his music. Thank you for helping to keep him alive. From a die-hard fan who got to see him in concert many times. Oh and what a treat it was!
What a beautiful song, by such a beautiful person!
One of my favorite JD songs😊
Beautiful....... simple and from the Heart
Es la canción que mi amiga Omy quisiera que le dedicarán y yo digo que espero que se haga realidad❤
¡Amén!!
Vulnerability experienced is a human emotion. John Denver wrote from his heart. It is also his own favorite song that he wrote, as it was Annie's favorite John composition. Thanks for posting this ! Hope it has many viewers!
First time hearing this. Just beautiful!!!
How? I'm 28 and I've been hearing it off and on for years
@@jilldurham5498I've heard this song many times through the years but this was the first time I heard it sung with just him and his guitar
Una cancion que llega al Alma

Beautyful and diepnis song van a good sanger
La canción de mi amiga Omairita 🥰
Tempo bom !! A vida foi mais leve….
He was talking about it being on the "new album", which it wasn't. The next album was Some Days Are Diamonds, June 81, which RCA made him do and it wasn't released until the Seasons Of The Heart, Feb 82, which John wanted to be the next album. RCA, imo, should have let him release Seasons of the Heart. Though the melody doesn't sound finished on this clip.
The album he referred to is the one RCA rejected, unfortunately.
@@JohnDenverHealingTimeOnEarth Yes and I think it was a form of Seasons of the Heart.
Agreed. How could it make on the album when it was just written 3 weeks prior?
:( This version hurts my heart. Do you have the interview preceeding this?
