Ford Mustang GT4 Testing at Monza Circuit: Accelerations, Downshifts & Sound!

- During a recent summer test session organized by Kateyama at Monza Circuit my friend @Italiansupercarvideo and I recorded this Ford Mustang GT4 from Academy Motorsport team. During the first of the two days the car ran equipped with mufflers on the exhaust (all the clips of the first part of the track - from T1 to T7) and without them during the final day of testing (most of the scenes from Ascari corner to Parabolica exit).
The Ford Mustang GT4 is an evolution of the 2015/2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R-C used in IMSA’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Developed by Multimatic Motorsports for Ford Performance in order to race under the GT4-class rules, the Mustang GT4 had its competition debut in 2017 during the Daytona 24 weekend. It's powered by a Roush-Yates Engines custom built dry-sumped 5.2L V8 with cross-plane crankshaft which produces around 580 hp but due to the GT4 BoP (Balance of Performance) the max power decreases to around 450 horses. The gearbox is a Holinger RD-6 sequential transmission with paddle shifters.

No electric car sounds like this, emotions will never get old
it's like listening to music without the music. So, basically it's just reading the lyrics. It's maybe more efficient, but has less emotions
The only people that say that are the same people that think cars are simply for commuting.
Here in California, we're having a heat wave and Governor Dippity-do just announced one of his "flex-alerts" during which he asked people NOT to charge their electric cars between 4PM and 10PM due to a power shortage!
Electric cars will always be slow around tracks and the full potential of Gas > Evs.
Evs are at a limit, Solid state is unreliable and Lithium is the best battery mineral we can possibly have, and it's still bad in terms of effective carrying potential.
It's why the world is not ready to shift into electric cars. Those politicians are too desperate for some climate change or something.
This hypes me up for the upcoming 2024 Mustang GT3.
This is GT4 though. Is there a big difference between them or what?
@@lucasblanchard47 yes gt3 tends to be more aggressive i.e more power, more aggressive aero and bodywork.

Glad you liked it! I really hope to record the Camaro one day. I saw it during the 2019 European GT4 Series at Monza but I only took pictures that weekend..
It really is a shame that the Camaro is winding down again (Mopar stuff too). I'm not into those cars, but the competition the big three had was awesome to see over the last 10-15 years
I'm assuming this is the crossplane Roush V8. Sounds amazing but I would love to see the flatplane V8 from the GT350R stuck in this or the new GT3 mustang.
I heard it wasn't durable enough, a 92.7mm/3.650inch stroke is not good for a FPC V8, to much vibrations and Ford's technology to lessen the vibrations maybe could have been better/durable. Even if for BOP the engine's rpm was reduced to the peak of 7500 there could still be issues. For a FPC V8 a 1.3 to 1(111mm+ bore spacing, 105/4.134 bore × 80.8/3.181 stroke) to a 1.25 to 1(109.6mm+ bore spacing, 103.6/4.079 bore × 82.9/3.264) bore/stroke ratio and limit the displacement to 5.6L or 700cc per cylinder for endurance racing, because piston speed is a greater cause of vibration issues for a FPC V8 than bore size as pistons can be extremely light weight depending on material and how they are made.

No one guy can imagine one day the muscle cars like these can turn in circuit like these... when muscle cars are drag only or road use. Im impressed!

@@marianomorales3635 The Camaro Z/28 and Mustang Boss 302 were built explicitly for SCCA Trans-Am competition, and race-prepped versions of the Plymoth Cuda, AMC Javelin, and Mercury Cougar also saw substantial use in the series. So no, it wouldn't be particularly shocking to see a Mustang or Camaro with a circuit racing variant today.

Once again, Monza, Paul Ricard and Imola always bring straight away satisfaction.
I got to hear one of these GT4s at Road America recently, and it sounds so incredible in person, the video barely captures it. The engine note is so distinct that even though the car might be in heavy traffic, the frequency of the engine note makes the sound of one of these things stand out above all the other cars. And the downshifts are so much more visceral and jarring than any other cars on the track.

This car is so quiet to me. But I’m also used to hearing the Flat plane crank of my own car over the cross plane crank. That GT4 is an amazing machine.

Bop confuses me, why not rather limit the power to weight ratio, or is that just basically GT3 and then up from that?
Because power to weight is not working.
You have in the same class small supercar-based cars with carbon chassis and double-wishbone suspension on all four corners driving alongside midsize (way more cd) cars with mcpherson/multilink setup. Even if the powerband and weight distribution would be absolutely identical, first car would be way faster.
Therefore BoP. Power, weight, ride height, tire width, etc.

It's.....kinda muted? Of course, Bozzy did say this thing is running silencers in half the clips, which really kills much of the hard edge of a GT350's sound.

Race cars today don't use stick shifts. They use paddle shifters.
