I work with this age group and it truly is so funny how whenever you sing they truly love it! They will dance and join you. The amount of singing we do is a lot! For washing hands, eating, circle time .. always singing! We also have no screen time. No tv, no movies just playing and learning. I love it! Also they truly do love books as well. See how they are all grabbing them lol that’s a daily for me! I work with 6 weeks to 18 months and absolutely love it. 💞
Honestly I looked this video up to figure out the secret sauce of daycare workers. Y'all are actual superheros!!! Watching one toddler is hard enough. In our household 4 adults are kept on our toes with just one kiddo...y'all had 10 toddlers sitting together for more than 5 minutes 💯 😭 You really deserve to be paid more.
I can hardly stand the sound of kids for a few minutes, and these people have to take it for hours on end, along with other child shenanigans. I could never. Ramp that pay up!
This was a very interesting video that resulted in some lively debate between some viewers. I suggest you reflect on asking questions of the children vs making statements. At the beginning of the video you asked the children if they would like to see flashcards, if they would like to sing a song. This was group time, a planned, structured activity for the day so it was not a choice. Instead of asking it would have been more accurate to state "let's look at some flash cards"' "now we are going to sing ..." etc.
That and then the teacher holding one of the kids for a while, also no reinforcement during any of the activities. For example, if I am on the floor playing with the blocks with them, each block I hand them I would talk about what color it is then have them say that color back to me, during painting, ask them which color paint they want to use, they point to it and we also say the color of the paint they chose again! Every moment is teachable in some way, especially at this age.

@@TP-op5ck As a childcare provider, director and owner, of 14yrs.....I rarely had issues during circle time. Toddlers and two's were my main classroom and my younger 2yr olds (2-2.5yr olds) could read the books with me. I read one book, every single day for a week and by Friday, every child would be reading it during circle time and all I had to do was flip the page. My student's parents didn't believe their children were reading until i asked them all to come in and watch on random days. We pointed to the words individually and they recognized them within a week. I was the ONLY teacher that taught them how to read. Their favorites were The Very Hungry Caterpillar, No, David!, a book I wrote for my class that had each of them in it that described them directly (they loved reading about themselves), and Click Clack Moo. As long as their minds are kept busy and on something they enjoy (singing/reading), then they don't usually harm other children or show out. Children staying actively engaged, prevents situations such as biting, hitting, temper tantrums, etc. Just because you have experienced one thing, doesn't mean every center experiences the same thing. I have only had 2 children in all my years, that were biters. I learned early on, that there were triggers and between myself and the parent's, we came up with ways to avoid the situation entirely.....they both needed more stimulation because they were bored. As for diversity, they may be in an area that doesn't have many children of other nationalities. I know I taught in centers in two different towns and one side of town had more hispanics and color than the other. There is nothing wrong with that. They can't control how many children of different races, are enrolled. My first job had a lot, but, the last one didn't. My girl's went to a Methodist preschool for 3yrs and only had 4 children of color in the entire center because it was out in the middle of the country on a back road (Church has been there 50yrs and preschool about 10yrs). If you don't go past it daily or know someone who attends there, you wouldn't know the preschool exists. I didn't choose them because of the diversity ratio of the students; I chose them because they had a great program, fantastic staff, and even more amazing children/parent'sthat quickly became family. In fact, my girl's are still very close with the staff and even go to school with those same children and are in class with them now. My girl's don't see a pigment difference in anyone else's skin. I raise them to love everyone and never judge them by what is on the outside, but what is on the inside. The fact that you brought skin tone into the comments, shows that you're part of what's wrong with our world today.
You clearly really enjoy and have a passion for working with children, which is awesome! Keep doing your best! Just some advice for playing alongside children - try to make it more about what the child is doing rather than entertaining them. Focus on being WITH the child and narrating what they are doing, giving them words to what they are doing. Also, I noticed the children really want to be able to see out of the window - what about a child-size stool or other safe climbing structure to allow them to do so on their own rather than having to rely on an adult or unacceptable behavior (climbing unsafely). Just my thoughts, not trying to be critical. You clearly have a strong foundation of knowledge to continue to build on, just like all educators!
I learned a lot from this, although I don't necessarily/wouldn't necessarily follow this style of childcare + teaching, there has been some things I was able to take away from this. Thank you!
My 11mo daughter's starting daycare as a smoother transition, thought it'd be good for her to watch/ hear daycare noises. Your video was awesome, you have real passion for the little kids and really like how it's a typical daycare qith random kids crying/ happy etc. My daughter was fully engaged making noises as if she was there herself. keep up the good work.
I am a student watching this video to observe the interactions for an assignment and I have to say do not fallow this caregivers example. There is so many things they do wrong that I have written down. There is no free play, children are being yelled at in the background, types of play are mislabeled, and the caregivers are stopping the children from experiencing things on their own that leads to a lot of developmental growth. Many children are being ignored and every instance of play is adult driven not child driven.

When the child was climbing the window cill he was trying to look outside. You told him “no you can’t do that”. He dropped to the floor crying. Once he calmed down he went over to the window with a friend and were pointing to the window saying outside. He then walked over to you, put his hand up and you picked him up and brought him over to the window to show him how beautiful it was outside. You need to adapt your environment before blaming the child for behavior. There should be a better way for them to see outside of that window. The child was using his gross motor skills to solve the problem of not being able to see and you prohibited him from being able to explore nature as well as his own body. You picked him up and showed him outside which did not encourage his development. You could have picked him up when he initially was trying to climb the window cill because that’s all that he needed. Scolding him for his behavior did not teach him anything. I suggest perhaps having a small indoor climbing structure near the windows so that the children can both exercise their gross motor skills as well as observe what is going on outside. He just wanted to see the snow and by saying “no you can’t do that!” The child thinks their teacher does not want them to look outside. Adjust the environment not the child.
These are poorly uneducated young adults completely swamped by lots of young children doing their best. They probably have favourites but ultimately none of the toddlers recieve the special attention they would have if their Mother's were looking after them instead
I have taught toddlers 12-24 months for over 30 years. I love this age group. At our center we have a 1 to 4 ratio. 8 toddlers max with two teachers. Love working for a awesome company that is N.A.E.Y.C. Accredited. High, High standards.
anyone else feel like/agree with me that me that all these kids have higher levels of anxiety and naughty behaviors once they leave and go back home due to the hectic environment and totally spastic energy here, ‘way too much. these kids senses are probably wayyyyy to over stimulated to the point its driving them nuts. @@liliqueen7141 well there are a few things I need to point out which I have noticed: - this group is very young and so in my nursery we would not get them to do flashcards or sing ABC - I didn't like that they were singing the bumble bee song because that is essentially teaching the children that it's OK to squish up a bumble bee - the practitioner is saying "good job" so much. Good job is not useful for children because they need to know what they did well so good job is useless. Its also being said far too much. - when the children are playing I feel like the adult needed to step back and let the children play rather than every play opportunity becoming adult led. - when the adult is playing with the children I think they should get involved more. Rather than just helping the child or praising them, I think the adult should actively get involved with the play as well as asking questions to support the child's learning. - with this age group at my Nursery the toys would be very focused on different textures and sounds - the practitioner was also towering over the children a lot and watching them like a hawk - the children are safe so let them be on their own for a little bit - when the practitioner does say good job they need to be more enthusiastic about it rather than just their normal voice or should actually celebrate it by giving the child a high five. - when the child was doing painting the practitioner was standing over him! The adult should have sat down, got paper and joined in with the painting. Also, when the child points to the paint before the adult gets more paint they should have asked the child "more paint please" - Also at the end I need to take issue with the numbers poster. 1-2 year old are not learning how to count to 20. 1 years old should learn maybe how to count to 3 and 2 year years should work towards counting to 5. Not 20 - I'm don't like this approach of play + teaching. Because play on its own is teaching and if the adult gets involved with the play, and asks questions about the activity the child will be learning. - the adult kept being with the girl called Harper. The adult should be with all the children and giving them all the same amount of interaction. This is an observation of the setting. Its not an observation of one child, if it was then the adult would be doing the right thing

Not sure what daycare you’ve had experience in. Sounds like you need to find a better school. The difference between daycare and preschool is that daycare is where everyone runs wild. (Which they are not) and preschool is literally the exact opposite. my toddlers at 1 tell me “bless you” when I sneeze. Thank you when it’s needed and we wash as soon as we arrive at school and wash hands before and after we eat and right after we come in from outside..and the kids know this and will correct you if you try to skip over.

Rote learning is a learning technique which avoids understanding the inner complexities and inferences of the subject that is being learned and instead focuses on memorizing the material so that it can be recalled by the learner exactly the way it was read or heard. In other words, it is learning "just for the test".
As is "ABCs" for this age group. Singing with young children is great, but treating toddlers like a Reception class is awful! Language development, concept development, in fact all development, should take place through PLAY supported by sensitive interactions based on knowledge of each individual child.

Having a climbing structure near a window is perhaps the most unsafe thing to have in a classroom and is 100% prohibited. The teacher handled it well.

depending on your state you may be able to start one at home but not too many kids different states have different rules and laws

Not sure what daycare you’ve had experience in. Sounds like you need to find a better school. The difference between daycare and preschool is that daycare is where everyone runs wild. (Which they are not) and preschool is literally the exact opposite.
my toddlers at 1 tell me “bless you” when I sneeze. Thank you when it’s needed and we wash as soon as we arrive at school and wash hands before and after we eat and right after we come in from outside..and the kids know this and will correct you if you try to skip over.

In other words, it is learning "just for the test".
As is "ABCs" for this age group. Singing with young children is great, but treating toddlers like a Reception class is awful! Language development, concept development, in fact all development, should take place through PLAY supported by sensitive interactions based on knowledge of each individual child.

Plastic toys are easiest to sanitize which obviously needs to happen several times a day.
