Such nice trucks, just too bad the price on all trucks are so overpriced. 45-50k for a mid sized truck is crazy.
What is really crazy is that people go out and pay for these over priced machines lul
I agree there over price, but considering the 1500 price there coming in at a good price. Not to mention these midsize trucks are a decent size.
In 08 we bought a RAM 3500 Mega Cab for $42k 😅
Was gonna say same thing!! I paid 42 for more my loaded xlt f150.
@@jlaw1901 $58k today accounting for inflation. Then also consider the lack of technology and features compared to this.
I think I would go with the Z71 model and just have a leveling kit installed & better tires (after the original set wear out).
Prices are crazy, in 2018 I got a brand new Rado ZR2 for just under $40k.
That g80 limited slip diff might not be fancy or even selectable, but man, does it ever work well. A little spin, then a clunk, and you're locked solid.
Its more than just a little spin.
Would rather have selectable lockers at least for trail boss
And those selectables have to be turned off at some point automatically to prevent driveline damage.
I've had half a dozen g80s in my life with probably 1 million miles total used for winter driving and snow plowing with zero problems.
Love the g80!
Nissan Frontier Pro-4X all day especially over the Z71 at $50k.
Nice quick overview on both trims. I am glad you were able to do a side by side comparison and I look forward to actual driving impressions etc…
The yellow one looks like Andre’s truck 🛻 he ordered.
I did a build and price for both of those trims. A blue Z71 which ended up being $48,680 and a Harvest bronze metallic Trail Boss with some nice options and accessories for $42,000.
I like the look of the Trail Boss better. Love the yellow!
I priced out a Z71 a few days ago 4x4 with most of the options, including the Radiant Red Tintcoat and it worked out to $46,855. Thanks for the video.
Andre we all know that’s your trail boss! Hope you love it!
Awesome to see these two trucks side by side! I like the idea of the trailboss, it just seems a little too W/T on the inside for me.
There are a few more options you can get on it. But what does not make sense if you upgrades the seat material the configuration takes out the power driver seat. That makes no sense.
@@HiPlains1 Yeah for some reason it seems like you cannot package the Evotex seating with the Convenience II which includes some equipment people would likely want on the Trailboss.
I feel like this is gonna be one of gms “experiment” trims like the z71 was back in the day we might see them just merge a few comforts into the trail boss or they might say just fork over 7 more grand for the canyon versions
I just wish I could get a Trail Boss and pay for LED lighting. I drive to and from work in the dark 8 months a year and cannot stomach spending this kind of money for the same lights my 2007 Sierra has.
I’ve been waiting on this video for so long! Thanks TFL!!!
The new Trail Boss on the Colorado reminds me of the S10 ZR2 WAY more so than the current gen and the new gen ZR2. Simple truck, wide stance, lifted truck that's also a blank canvas that covers most buyer's boxes. The ZR2 now is midsize luxo Raptor spec truck.
I couldn't wait to see what the Nitro Yellow looked like on the Trail Boss. Love it!!!
Awesome, love the Nitro yellow . Like that You optioned the better wheels & tires .
Sweet truck, Andre .
Best of luck with your new trail boss Andre, Drive it in good Health😊
Can't wait to get my Z71 in a few months. I think this new generation of Colorados is amazing. Excited to see Andre's reviews of how they actually drive
This Friday the 17th is when the test drive impressions embargo lifts so my guess is that's when we'll hear what his thoughts are on how they drive
@@RossMalagarie TFL will like it being they test at higher altitudes. This motor uses induction and has a ton of low end torque. Should do very well up there. We already know its probably got more power then the 5.3 in the full size. Shave 500 lbs off on the mid size and you can only imagine how it will perform.
I ordered a ZR2 with my dealer last week. I’ll have a longer wait but both are great trucks.
@@kevinsimmons7182 when do you think you’ll get it?
I would like to know as well. Really close to putting in an order for the ZR2.
Nice comparison. Thanks for sharing
Fantastic trucks. Chevrolet once again has done a great job building great trucks. Love the looks of the Trail Boss and ZR2. Can’t wait for the reviews and testing in Colorado.
That Z71 with a couple inch lift and some 33's would look real nice!
The truck market these days is bittersweet… we’ve been getting some awesome new models equipped straight from the factory, but most people won’t be able to afford them. It still makes sense for most people to buy a 10-15 year old truck and buy some aftermarket off-road parts for it.
They did such a good job with these truck
I love the new Colorado. Thanks for showing them to us, Andrey.
Broke boy
@Charlie Kessler so paying for what you don't need in a bigger truck is intelligent?
I just got my trail boss last week..truck was so cool. I loved it.
I love my 2016 Colorado Z71. I really love that Trail Boss!
Man these trucks are looking sharp. Just a nice interior. Exterior looks a little weird but it's not bad. Growing on me. I'm liking the Colorado a lot. I'd like to see how good they can offroad, high elevation driving and what mpg but I'm sure I'll get that real soon.
I owned a 19 ZR2 and always said great truck but it needs a serious update. They look great now!
If GM would’ve put heated cloth seats on the TrailBoss and LED lighting that would make it a no brainer for me. But I’m in my 40’s and want those comfort features.
Dealer will install heated seats for $800. I could live without LED's, but not having dual climate. That was a deal breaker. I am looking forward to seeing a TB with EvoTex seats.
@@Steven-xj2rf I think its an option but for some reason when you add that it takes the 8 way driver power seat off. And not being able to order fog lights? GM compromised the trail boss allot. Probably to steer sales towards ZR 2.
In this video, the Trail Boss is the better trim to get even though the Z71 has a nicer interior (in my opinion!). The Z71 is the City/Tradeperson truck while the Trail Boss is the true 4x4 offroader! Looks like they are quite differentiated in terms of target market! The Z71 is the urban trades truck that can tow a boat to the local lake while the Trail Boss is the more hard-core ranch-hand's vehicle and weekend warrior off-road camping/fishing/hunting vehicle!
Being in western Canada with a massive snowstorm on the way this week, I will pick the Trail Boss to get me into the high mountains for some winter camping!
V
Hey Andrea you're absolutely the best always love your content and commentary can't wait to see these in action hope you guys get the ZR2 also
Andrea LOL!
Yup! I'm going to get a ZR2 myself, want to see and read some reviews on it. I was going to get the blue, but the dark red REALLY hooked me....unless they come out with an orange to match my KTM like the new Bronco and older Jeeps have...
@@kx8960 Went on Chevy's website to build my own ZR2 but they don't even have the prices they say you have to ask the dealer But I figure they're gonna be about 50k
@@robertjohnson4784 Nice! What color? I was gonna get blue.... but changed my mind and decided to get the red. Yeah, I "built" one as well, ended up $53,615 for my build with power moonroof. We'll see. I know some of the Phord dealers were @ss-r@ping people with markups before Phord steeped in and threatened to pull their dealerships. I almost bought a 2dr V6 Bronco Sasquatch but it would have just been too impractical, I need at least some luggage capacity and having a small bed would be nice, so... Best of luck!
@@robertjohnson4784 that must vary by area. I got a price on the website and a signed quote from my dealer. Fingers crossed on a Summer delivery. It’s a sick truck, cant wait! Black with leather sunroof and Bose for $51,285
Going down the highway with that wide stance is menacing. They are nice
Yess I was waiting for this video 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️
Only if the z71 H lights were on the trailboss
Great looking truck, really wish the prices were a little less!
I ordered a Z71 about a month ago. I plan to lift it with some Icon shocks (probably) and 33’s.
One thing that just crossed my mind now is the fact that they haven’t made a "tub" with access to the from above. I could see if you’re full of cargo it would suck lmao. But damn, the winters and salt where can rot anything lol
I currently drive a 19 Colorado long bed diesel 4x4 with 32" tires and an EIbach leveling kit. Other than a few electronic ghosts in the infotainment system it's been a great truck that I've gotten over 30 MPG highway on frequently, though not very often since the lift, tires and chin spoilerectomy. It's been great for the 114,000 miles I've driven it and it appears that replacing it will be impossible.
I'd go Colorado trail boss but even my 5'6" self would have to sleep diagonally inside a shell on one of these trucks and GM said in the previous generation that a slide in camper wasn't recommended and could result in frame damage which wouldn't be covered under warranty. This truck is more of a highway legal UTV than a truck, despite the rated payload which would allow a lightweight camper page 379 of the manual for my 2019 said no and given GM said this even on the 1500 I see no change coming.
With no one offering a diesel in the mid size segment and most not offering a long bed I'm leaning 1500 Silverado diesel Trail Boss. GM doesn't recommend a slide in camper due to risk of frame damage not covered under warranty but even the short bed only trail boss has enough width to sleep more comfortably than a midsize short bed and offers similar fuel economy with far greater utilitarian capacities.
I'd go with the Frontier to avoid the heat generating turbocharger that costs nearly as much as a short block to replace but their off road package is a joke, it's only available on the short bed and offers v8 like fuel economy.
Maybe Ford will do something good with the ranger but it's unlikely to be anything but short bed crew cab and a turbo 4 unless I want to pay up for the Ranger Raptor( if it gets here and the dealers don't "MARKET ADJUST" it to F150 tremor MSRP, even without the "adjustment" it costs more than the Custom Trail boss diesel Silverado.
Tacoma? Never liked the omnipresent Taco and with production moving out of the U.S. I'm not considering it.
My 2019 Colorado may be my last new truck.
Great review I’ve already have my trail boss priced out everything I want with heated seats. Technology package came to 42,000. I just was wondering what the headlights look like at night . I’d like to see somebody do a review nighttime driving and some super dark roads.
Can’t wait for the drive test
Andre is the truck master! That yellow is sick lookin to me! I really wish the TB had options for fog lights, but my opinion is I would still pick the tb and just put aftermarket lights etc... if you don't care about being boujee on the inside haha
Yeah it sucks they are not even an option. Pretty amazing its not offered. Not sure how good the old school headlights will work. Because they sucked on the last gen.
Not too into the "Atomic Baby-Shit Yellow" myself, but I can imagine some like it... I was hoping for KTM orange (or close) to match or compliment my KTM, but nooo....
I agree with the Andre trail Boss is the better package all around.
I ordered the yellow Trail Boss. It is built and should be delivered in two weeks. I added most of the features including the High Output option so that it will have the 430 LB/FT of torque. I am hoping to find out how well it works off-road and as a commuter.
Wow that's great news, I ordered a loaded TB as well, factory hasn't picked up my order yet and I'm getting worried of delays. Good to hear you are already awaiting delivery!
Have you taken delivery?! I’m interested in a similar (same exact) set up 🤓
@@willskissick4100 It was completed six weeks ago and sitting at the factory waiting to be delivered. I am told they can't ship the truck until the mileage info has been verified. Frustrated with Chevy!
Excellent thank you.
Prices are up quite a bit from the 22 model. Local dealer has a couple 2022 Z71 trucks around $42,000 and a 2022 ZR2 at $45,000. Though it seems the entry level Work Truck WT price hasn't gone up that much.
The interior quality has gone up from last year.
great video-2 very nice mid sized trucks that will directly compete against the Tacoma-Its about time Chevy and GMC
Again, kinda feels like they always drag GM for pricing when it is on par, if not less than the other options (particularly Ford). If you build and price out a comparable ranger, you end up above the MSRP on the Colorado.
Love your new truck Andre
Love these new trucks. The Trail Boss looks amazing, I just wish there we’re some options to get the same interior as the Z71. There’s no question the Trail Boss is the best looking of the bunch.
Yeah, I want the TB but with LEF headlights, fog lights, and a heated steering wheel
Maybe look at GMC Elevation trim.
@@jimsomerville3924 I just priced it out and well equipped came to $47,820. I like that the GMC versions come standard with the HO engine.
@@toddkovalcik332 unfortunately they come equipped with the mandatory Onstar subscription as well.
Heated seats would be a minimum add for me. I really hope it's a supply chain decision and the option for TB is imminent... for me heated seats are one of the most important options. I don't care for the Z71, Tb is the best in the line up otherwise.
That Nitro Yellow is pretty cool. Very unique
They should bring out a Trail Boss but with the LED lights and better interior like a Trail Boss LT on the Silverados
I got my z71 in Las Vegas fully loaded for 46,000 and 2 in lift for 99.doller I put it in Myself. I really like lt
Can’t wait to get my ZR2
That nitro yellow is a killer color
Great video. Looking forward to future drive videos. BTW, the 20 in wheels are an $800 option. Stock wheels are 18 in.
Better off with 18's for offroad. 20's is just dumb for this kind of vehicle. That's for ya yuppie mall crawlers.
I'd definitely go with the 18s on the Z71.
@@HiPlains1 18” still yuppie
The Z71 Has Tons Of Features!
I'd honestly buy a z71 and lift it. partly cuz i'd get the nice interior and lifting it would give me the offroad capability. or depending on price maybe just get a zr2.
I love the trailboss . I wish they had the baby duramax still!
It would be cool to see a drag race between the older generation Colorado v6 vs the newer Colorado
I'm sure they will do that. With the massive increase in low end torque it will probably destroy the older V6. Especially at higher altitude where TFL tests. With induction you don't lose much power. With normally aspirated motors they are sucking wind. That race won't even be close.
V6 is slower than the 2.7 turbo plus in the z71
Man... If Dodge came back with the Dakota with a crew cab that would be amazing
The wheels on the Z71 package look cheap and out of date and the low profile tire combo with them is lame. The trail boss looks much better IMO.
I'd have to agree for a "higher" trim it seems rather luck laster asthetics compared to the trail boss.
Agreed, there needs to be a blend of the trail boss exterior and the Z71 interior.
But Would you choose that trail boss over the current competition regarding specs and pricing?
I like the trailboss for its blackout looks, but it defenetly needs LEDS headlights. I don't mind base features or dumb safety features that I don't need, but being able to see is such an important aspect of driving, us is 2023 now and there's lots of cheaper vehicles with LED standard. LED is probably the only OEM thing I think it looks better than after market.
I might a Colorado, but chevys' reliability is a major concern to me and 4 cyl engines, powerful yes, but that sound is just, I don't know, I feel part of owning a truck for play and trips is that sound.
Would love a comparison to the canyon at4 vs trail boss.
👏👏 CAMERA NINJA KASE...👏👏ANDRE .... HAVE A BEAUTIFUL TUESDAY EVERYONE ✌️
What's the payload and towing spec on ZR2?
Those wheel liners are key for people in the rust belt. The taco liners are so bad you get salt, sand, mud up into the bed of the truck from the rear wheel wells.
still waiting for my factory order placed early April to Ontario Canada for the Trail Boss. I see a couple Z71 versions have shown up to dealers around here but my Trail Boss is still not here, apparently it's been built now and is in the scheduling cue for deliver dates......stagnant however.
Does anyone have updated information on the current ZR2 constraint? I am very back and forth between the Trail Boss and ZR2 models. Obviously the price point and lead time are just a few of the deciding factors
Can’t wait to see the Colorado and canyon together that’s when I will make a decision on one for my next truck!
Run away from GM
@@Omar13t on my 2nd gm vehicle and no problems at all. Maintenance is key.
I hate the size of the screen. If they would have shrunk it and integrated it into the dash better I might buy one. Passenger side looks good though.
Put deposit down for ZR2, which will be put to good use here in the Great Northwest.
45-50 grand for a pickup truck. Geezus! I don't think I'll ever own a new vehicle. Insane.
I'm digging the colour on that trail boss. Nice. I don't like the stitching on the z71, don't like the trail boss still using halogen lights, seriously today that's just lame. I'd just order the z71 and take it down to the tire shop, lift it 3inches and a bigger set of tires, nothing ridiculous.
Great interior
You never showed the gauge cluster and setting options?
Id go with the Trail Boss with the Z71 headlights.
I can buy a full size work truck crew cab 4x4 for mid 40s to low 50 with a v8
You should probably go for that then if that’s what meets your needs.
@Don Mohring go buy that. These are more geared for off-road, daily commute and convenience. Looks like you are looking for work truck and size. 2 different markets.
Yeah if it’s 5 - 6 years old. No way your getting a new full size truck for 50k
I feel like not adding the selectable locker from the rear of the ZR2 is a miss. The G80 is helpful but very crude in how it works and a bit limiting. Also an off-road traction control system seems like a no brainer, basically software. In a lot of cases an traction control system wors better than lockers as you can make sharp turns without having to disengage a locker(s). I am assuming it is still like the krevious gen where when you engage 4 low it turns off the basic system it has for high range. Also any functionality of a vehicle that relies on a touch screen is a huge no for me. Physical controls for the vehicles systems, entertainment only in screens please. That said they look nice, I imagine that trail boss will be a big seller but wow, that pricing… we picked up a ‘22 z71 Duramax, well loaded with a retail of 45k last July when hearing rumors the new truck was losing the diesel. Love it, but 49k for a gas 4 cylinder z71…. That’s steep. Granted any Chevy you can usually score a good deal versus a Toyota where they wheats sell at full retail.
choose the one with the least dealer "market adjustment"
Let’s get the ZR2!
That Nitro Yellow will be mine! With yellow seatbelts
GM Please make a software update to add the fog light control in the lighting shortcut.
The Trail Boss might be the trim to get here. It comes well equipped with everything you would need nothing you don’t. (well, maybe it’d be nice to have an option to upgrade to the better headlights)
Yea the LED headlights would be a nice option to have access to at least. I couldn't care about the LED taillights, but the headlights would be appreciated.
I really like them. But I think they missed an opportunity to carry over the Trailboss LT trim from the halt tons. Basically the Z71 Colorado trim with Trailboss capabilities.
Bring back the Z71 Midnight Edition with the Trail Boss rims and tires.
Can someone please explain why Trial Boss is wider than Z71? Is it because the tire on Trial Boss is wider?
I like when a reviewer goes straight to the point. Very matter of fact, and rich content thank you!
My girlfriend has a order in for a Z71 and she really wants to know the mpg! Chevy hasn’t released any numbers yet. I hope you guys do a real world mpg loop.
some people have seen the numbers and posted about it on the GM authority website. It's 19-20 city and 25 highway!
Well like any turbo motor its how you drive it. If you drive hard and keep it in boost all the time its going to suck it down. Allot. The MPG's can vary wildly between drivers. Its how you drive them.
I want that trail boss
Andre, is the Trail Boss the same offroad package as the AT4 from the GMC side?
I think it’s an attractive truck. Can the LT come with heated seats?
Same payload and hp if don’t care about more fancier inside then the trail boss is obvious choice
You guys failed to mention one of the biggest differences between these trucks.. which is the track width. The trail boss is wider than the Z71. As a potential customer what I'd like to know is how is the wider track width achieved. Longer arms and wider rear end? Or is it all from wheel offset? And how much additional front wheel travel is available with the wider setup?
Now do a comparison of a loaded LT vs Z71 both with 18 inch wheels.
I am leaning towards the canyon AT4.
That's a good spec for sure.
Me too!
Me 2
Would this comparison work out similarly for a Silverado z71 vs a silverado trail boss?
Do we get a new ZR2 also? I can't wait to see that one maybe on 35/37's!
Andre, is the nitro yellow one your personal Trail Boss?
They responded to someone else's comment, it is not his trail boss but a similarly equiped one.
Convince me I'm wrong: There should never be "basic headlamps" and "premium headlamps". There should only be the best headlamp for illuminating the road and increasing your safety. I think grades of headlamp is stupid, like grades of airbag.
Other than the 4Runner (5th gen), all these new trucks seem “fragile.” And by that I mean, they may be nice for the first 5 years or so, but then all the digital, screen, start stop, direct injected engines, etc. will start to cause issues that either aren’t worth fixing or just break the car/truck to the point of having to purchase a new one as most people seem to treat vehicles as “technology” such as their phones they replace every year or two.
Can you disable all the start up chiming sounds?
I like the trail boss!
