I love Drew Bledsoe. He was a really good QB, helping bring credibility to the franchise. Definitely showed a lot of class when he was told he wasn't getting the starting job back. He did mentor Tom early in his career. I can't thank him enough for what he did for the Pats while I was growing up.

@Tim Honks Wasn’t Belichick’s defense. The Pats were already very good with Bill Parcell’s. Parcell’s in the late 90s took Bledsoe and the Pats to the Super Bowl. Belichick went 5-13 til Brady started and went 14-3 Champs.
Belichick was handed a great defense. Over the course of the past decades he also had cheap Brady with even cheaper weapons so he can stack the defense. Belichick is great, but vastly overrated. He has 8 rings mostly because he had GOATs LT and TB.
And drafting Jimmy G is another Belichick GM failure. Jimmy will turn 30 this year and if Brady/Jimmy were in the Pats, Jimmy would still be Brady’s backup. How did Kraft undermine him? He made a great decision in overriding Belichick’s terrible decision to even consider Jimmy over Brady. One of many terrible GM moves by Belichick.

@Tim Honks I meant in the beginning. Belichick was handed a great team tat made the Superbowl without him. Belichick went 5-13 til Brady came in to potentially save his job as there were reports that Belichick’s job was in danger. He failed in Cleveland and was failing in NE as the Pats were having the worst 18 week stretch in about 5 years.
Belichick was able to sustain great defenses because Brady was cheap and won with cheap weapons. That’s a GMs dream. Cheap GOAT that wins with top offenses using cheap weapons. Look at Belichick now without Brady. Spending like crazy and overpaying. The defense will suffer cus he no longer has a cheap GOAT that can elevate everyone.

I was at the 2000 Orange Bowl where Brady beat Bama and everyone in the stadium was asking who the Mich QB was. I told my brother in law after the game that Mich QB was the best I had ever seen. Did I expect what has happened, no but I knew he had the ability to be a productive pro. He mad e a play when he had to. He had that IT factor.
yea as a rookie he had a ton to learn and improve upon altho he quickly did that...what bugged me experiencing Bradys 1st few yrs replacing Drew was the utter, blind denial by fans who were still so loyal to Bledsoe that they spent those 1st handful of seasons being Bradys biggest critics-that BS about him being unable to go deep likely started with bitter Bledsoe fans-going deep was Drews bread&butter whereas the check-down was Bradys...

@@andrewdesrosiers5658 a ton of people were...there were an awful lot of aged patsfans who thought they knew everything based on being diehard redsox fans at the time it seemed...I was never a believer in Bledsoe...I had spent too many yrs watching Montana Young Elway etc during the yrs leading up to and surrounding Drews career to fail to notice that Bledsoe had far too many flaws I dont want in my QB...He was tough clutch on occasion, and had a strong arm, but he had no mobility made bad quick decisions, turnover prone, locked onto and stared down his WRs, held onto it far too long did dumb things when getting sacked and when deciding to run at times, and was far too much of a gunslinger rather than being willing to take that checkdown...He played well enough replacing Brady against the Steelers in that AFCCG and certainly deserves credit for being a team guy and not causing a problem that yr, but Im very confident that if Bill had chosen to start him instead of Brady in SBXXXVI the Rams would be celebrating the 20th anniv of the coronation of their dynasty next Feb...
M.Felger bumped into Pete Carroll during the media festivities surrounding the 2006 Rose Bowl and asked him about Bledsoes work ethic...Pete responded by saying that "Drew did everything we asked him to do...and nothing more." That makes sense if you studied Bledsoes career-he was very heavily hyped locally was being overzealously compared early on in his career to D.Marino, and I never got the impression he was going the extra mile the way other iconic athletes like Bird Brady and Peyton did to be the absolute best he could be...From a distance Peyton appeared to make enormous improvements between the beginning and end of his rookie yr and Bradys improvements from yr1 to yr 2 and then from yr 2 thru the next few yrs as well have been fairly well documented...Very unlikely to become the best by simply punching in the clock...
Drew improved a bit early on but he peaked in 96, by 97 at the latest, & tbh I felt like he was declining/regressing significantly before they handed him that 100+million dollar contract-that FO decision makes me very doubtful about NEs chances of rebuilding now...They made an overrated QB who never once produced a 2:1 TD:Int ratio for a single season and now about 15yrs removed from his final NFL game isnt ever mentioned in HOF discussions into the leagues highest paid player...contracts like that can prevent championships let alone dynasties from ever being won/formed the reasons his didnt are because guys like Brady arrived for the price of a 6th rd pick while playing like a HOFer-as was the case in 2001 with Pats linebacker Roman Phifer the MVP of the 2001 Patriots defense who was paid veterans minimum wage that season while performing like a borderline all-pro-and because the Pats were able to trade Drew to Buffalo which freed that cap space back up & actually enabled them to easily win 5 of the next 6 div games they played against the Bledsoe led Bills over a 3 season span2boot- we were able to attack/rely upon every one of his bad tendencies and weaknesses during those games/wins-our only loss2them was the Milloy game in wk1 2003 when our team/locker room was so emotionally devastated going into it due to Milloys sudden unexpected release and the Bills was simultaneously at an alltime high after signing him, at least during that decade...you can find the nfl primetime recaps of all of those Pats vs Bills 2002-2004 games here on utube and see it for yourself all these yrs later they absolutely feasted on Bledsoe specifically in those games...Was clearly a far greater, more obvious advantage to be playing defense against him than anything spying or underinflated footballs ever could have provided the Pats offense with.
When Brady took over for injured Bledsoe, I knew we had something special that season. Glad Drew didnt ignore his injury and drive home that day.

I’m a Vikings fan and I started watching the Pats in 2007 when my all-time favorite, Randy Miss joined the team! Since the. I’ve been a Brady fanatic! He is the ultimate GOAT and no one can convince me otherwise. Tom is not only the GOAT but a great man in general. He will always be remembered in my heart ❤️
I am also a Vikings fan and Randy Moss is my favorite. I became a big fan of Brady once he left New England and proved he can win without Belichick. Now Belichick has to prove he can win without Brady. I knew Brady was good on the Patriots but I always thought it had to do more with the culture that Belichick established and how he prepared the players. And I am sure that probably has a lot to do with it but Brady winning the Superbowl without Belichick in his first year on a new team is very impressive.

Well actually as the other guy said they would have never would have got there first ring and technically he started it all by winning that 1st AFC Championship game against a seriously good Steelers team to get them to there first superbowl win Bledsoe got them to the 94 superbowl and had to face a legend brett farve and Drew Bledsoe was and always be remembered as the guy who got them to there first superbowl win too real Bledsoe fans its not that hes better than Brady but its a true fact he won that game even if he came back when he got put in that second half of the AFC Championship game and won it for them to get to the Patriots first ring and he earned that ring by helping them even get to that game so yes if Bledsoe didnt play that second half of the AFC Championship game then the Patriots would have never even made it to that first superbowl winning game

Miss Brady in a Pats Jersey but 20 years of greatness and 6 super bowl wins and many many exciting moments he gave us will forever mean so much to Patriots nation. He owes us nothing. He is the greatest of all time and it's not even close. Drew Bledsoe definitely deserves some credit for giving the Patriots hope again and being an absolute class act after a series of unfortunate events that was out of his control. There's plenty NFL divas who would've thrown a hissy fit but Drew handled it with class. Great guy. Both Drew and Tom will always have a place in Patriot Nation's heart.
Whether he realizes it or not, Drew Bledsoe paved the way for the ultimate success of Tom Brady. Everything could have turned out so different if not for Drew's professionalism and sportsmanship. Drew was a force of motivation and a great benefit to Tommy. Much respect and reverence for Drew!!

Mac Bledsoe is one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. He came to my school when I was 15 and gave a very moving and touching talk about setting goals and inspiring yourself to be better.
I still find it unbelievable what happened with Brady. It's like some story from a fantastical sports movie. Guy nobody wants, gets passed until the sixth round of the draft, gets a chance to play, earns the starting position, goes on a crazy win streak, wins the Super Bowl that year, then goes on to become the greatest of all time and keeps winning SBs over and over and over until the age of...
What people forget is Tom Brady got hurt in the AFC Championship Game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh and Bledsoe came in - and saved the day. He earned his SB ring.

Bledsoe really didn't play that well though, if we're being honest. If I recall, he threw one or two picks in the second half of that game. Pretty indicative of his career overall with the Pats, and why Brady ultimately got the starting job.

Bledsoe threw too many bad very costly interceptions. Way overated even to this day. He is a choker under pressure. I always knew his days were numbered in N.E. and could not understand why he was allowed to stay in games he was choking in.

Everyone in NE was totally split on putting our #1 overall pick Bledsoe back in, who had turned the whole team around and brought us to the SB, and had an absolute cannon for an arm, or keep in the 6th round pick who we barely knew, but happened to be winning games with a lot of short, maybe lucky?, but successful passes. It really won't, though. If you put all of the QBs on a graph (not literally by number but by "domination"), people like Marino, Manning, Favre, Montana, etc. would all be in the same area. They were elite. All time greats. Tom Brady would be an order of magnitude above that. This will sound like an exaggeration, but it isn't: Tom Brady has never been the starting QB of a team with a losing record. Never. He's spent half of his career in the Super Bowl. And one-third of it was winning the Super Bowl. He has more playoff wins than anyone else has playoff games. He has more passing yards in the Super Bowl than most people have in their playoff careers (everyone? I forget). Tom Brady is just 3 Conference Championship games away from playing in an entire 17 game season (as of 2021) of Conference Championships. An entire season... in the Conference Championship. The crazy part is that it doesn't sound insane that he gets those 3 games. Making the conference championship is really hard. A lot of players will never do it, but somehow it didn't sound crazy that I suggested Tom Brady might get there? That's how dominant he's been.

There was an interesting story about Tom Brady told by Brock Huard on Seattle local radio. His brother Damon Huard was signed to back up Drew Bledsoe. He called Brock and told him he was really worried about being cut. Brock said what are you worrying about? They brought you in specifically to back up Drew Bledsoe. Damon said there is this kid who never misses a pass. They're going to cut me i know it.

Not quite sure what you all are on about, they are two different situations. Drew was injured and replaced, talked to Kraft and other people in the org, and took it in stride. It was a perfect example of the next-man-up philosophy. Meanwhile in GB, they go out and draft a QB in the FIRST round, after not having drafted a skill position player for Rodgers in the 1st his entire career, and now, the year after he wins his THIRD MVP, they are being dodgy about paying him as he has no guaranteed money left in his contract.
Bledsoe, despite having rallied the team back from the depths during his tenure, got replaced by a qb who proved himself to be better.
Rodgers, one of the best quarterbacks in the league and fresh off an mvp, has been wronged by the Packers org repeatedly, who are seemingly ready to replace him with an unproven talent.

Drew Bledsoe is def a class act. I remember when the Patriots lost to the Packers in 97. He had a great career and at-least contributed to the Pats first Super Bowl victory, winning the AFC championship game. Great Video Mike!!! One of your best so far!

I am a Michigan Football fan and season ticket holder. Tommy Brady had to beat out Drew Henson who was a top prospect in football and also baseball. Henson was signed by the Yankees and later played a few games in the NFL. Brady has a work ethic that is second to none, is very smart and he keeps a humble attitude and is a good guy overall. He's a leader and a winner! That Superbowl vs. the Falcons a few years ago was won by Brady and there was no margin for error. I think it was his greatest game ever! I also did really like Drew Bledsoe too. I remember seeing him in an AFC Championship game vs. the Browns and Vinny Testaverde on January 1, 1995 at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. It was bitterly cold that day and Bledsoe had a great game - he had one of the strongest arms I have ever seen! All the best to Brady and Bledsoe! 👍👍👍👍👍

Drew Bledsoe showed a lot of Class by not whining on the side line while Brady was winning games. He played well in the AFC Championship game when Brady was injured and didn't whine when Brady was the starter in the Super Bowl instead of him. The thing that got Drew in trouble is the number of Interceptions he threw. I remember Bill Parcels when he coached Dallas expressing frustration when Drew wouldn't run the play Parcels had called and Drew threw a Pick instead. Oh Well. Its good that Drew and Tommy are still friends.
Bledsoe whined alright. Belichick was coach at the time, not Pete Carroll, so Bledsoe's bitching didn't get to the press. Bledsoe was plenty salty about being replaced by Brady.

Drew was all class ! Coming into the final drive of the 1st SB, the Pats were about to take the field and Belichick told Brady “protect the ball “, offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss grabbed TB on the way by and echoed these statements saying ”be careful”. Bledsoe pulled Brady back just before stepping onto the field and told him “f#%% that, sling it!” , thus encouraging the young QB and adding to his confidence. Seeing that clip still gives me chills till this day!
As a Diehard Jets fan, I hated Brady and the Patriots with a passion. Today, I love the guy and enjoy watching him play regardless of what team he's on.
I always appreciated Drew. His drafting represents to me when the Pats stopped being a joke.
It all started with Drew. If they didn't pick Drew, nothing else would've happened. He brought them to a level of respectability and started the whole ball rolling.
He also went downhill fast, which was why he was replaced. Before Brady the pats won 13 playoff games in 40 years, after Brady became starter they won 31 in 19 years.

The story I remember from back in the day was the Pats were impressed with Brady but had other, more pressing needs to address in the draft. However, the Pats figured he would be gone by like the 4th round, so when the 6th round came along and Brady was still available, the Pats said "we can't believe he's still available, so we're going to take him as the overall best perceived value available to us at this time."
And the Pats normally only went with 3 QB's on their roster. The reason Tom was their 4th QB was specifically because they liked him enough as a future prospect that they went out of their way to make a 4th spot for him so they could keep him around.

Teams were concerned about how there was a QB controversy between Brady and Drew Henson, a two-sport stat who allegedly threatened to leave the school if he didn’t start. Carr knew Brady was better, but initially started Henson, anyway. Carr told the Pats scout (Bobby Grier, IIRC) that they’d never regret drafting Tom Brady.

I knew about Tom Brady from Michigan. Got a raw deal there because of Drew Henson. Tom was nice at Michigan.
Well, it made him who he is today. . .tireless and competitive. That experience probably gave him his fight. And he took Michigan to the Orange Bowl and won. So he ended his career in college on a high note.

@@nealsandoval People wondered why Michigan wanted Henson more than Brady. Brady's low draft spot was likely not due to being poorly placed on draft boards. Prospects fall in the draft because teams have higher priorities on other players. There is a real chance that NE had a 2nd round grade on brady (which they claim now... though it might be BS) but had a higher priority on filling roster needs than drafting best player available [remember they had a starter and 2 backups already]. Other teams do the same. In the 4th round when there is a run on TEs, people panic and move up to grab their TE before they're all gone.
QBs are more valuable today because of rule changes and having some of the greatest ever to play. In 2000, a QB falling down the board wouldn't have really shocked anyone as much.
The Tom Brady question has a lot of answers and they're all partially right. No one really stood on the table for Brady. Brady had no 'elite' physical tools. His game film was good, but Michigan constantly was trying to get Drew Henson starter reps. His combine was one of the worst in NFL history for a QB. Ultimately, his career may be what it is today because he was allowed to develop as a player, not because he was a day 1 prospect. Early Brady was good at not losing. Today he is good at that, but also at winning.

It's a long drive from Foxboro to Mass General in Boston. If they really thought Drew was in danger, wouldn't they go to a closer hospital or call for a Med flight?
One would think. I know of a couple hospitals that could have been perfectly fine to go to very close by. It seriously makes no sense.

Depends on the trauma level that the hospital can handle, and life flights aren't typically used in those types of situations.

@@auggieeast I understand your point, I was pointing out the fact that sometimes hospitals can't take certain kinds of trauma because they don't have the proper staff or facilities to handle them. There could also be a contractual thing between the team and the hospital. There's many circumstances as to why he went to a specific hospital, but from a first responders view point, at the time he was loaded into the ambulance he exhibited no life threatening symptoms, if his condition worsens while en route to the hospital, procedurally they wouldn't stop the vehicle and wait for a life flight to be called, routed to them, load him up and proceed to the specified hospital, it would be a waste of time to do that, regardless of his condition.

Drew was an average player who had a couple of good seasons. It was pretty obvious we needed an improvement. I told everyone that this Brady kid was the real deal. Fortunately they drafted TB12 and the rest is history.
This whole thing, Bledsoe, Belichek, and Brady changed my entire outlook on football. Had no interest in the game whatsoever until one day, I attended a playoff party that turned out to be the Tuck Rule Game. I started rooting for the Patriots because everyone in the room was a Raiders fan. I’ve always been contrary. Then I actually started watching the game and became hooked to the game AND hooked to the anger and dislike that always came towards them. 20+ years later, there are tons of memories and joy following their ups and downs. Football. The only sport I sincerely enjoy and watch. Hoping it doesn’t get jacked up w all the current outside stuff. I remember thinking how tough it all must have been for Drew and I totally admired how he handled it all.

I don't understand why he was so low rated coming out of college, his last game for Michigan he threw for 369 yards and 4 TD's in the Orange Bowl v Alabama, on top of a really good 2 years as a starter what more did anybody need to see?
@@Veaseify He had a poor combine. Skinny, slow, didn’t have the “measurables” that were considered to be predictors of NFL success at that time. Same reasons Russell Wilson (“too short”) was passed over by so many - poor “measurables” by NFL standards. Tom was/is a winner though and I love that he proved everyone wrong. I have no UofM allegiance so I didn’t see many of his college games and became a fan when he started winning in NE. He plays chess on the field better than any QB in our generation and his winning record proves it.
drew bledsoe is such an amazing guy. to not only support him as a teammate, but to be friends years later with the guy that replaced you and gets all the glory, who nobody will shut up about how great he is. that's amazing security, unselfishness and integrity. stand up dude, for real. and an underappreciated talent as a player too.
