My university had an FE prep course that lasted a whole semester. I even took it twice to ensure that I would pass it because I felt unprepared. I found out that I passed it 2 days before graduation and it actually looked good for me when I went to grad school. Immediately after graduate school, I studied for the PE exam, took and passed it in late June after graduation where my parents lived in SC because NYS did not allow me to take the PE exam without 4 years of professional experience.

Ive taken the FE exam and failed because I didn't manage my time properly during the test. Trying to solve a problem and look at the time simultaneously puts a lot of pressure. You get so focused on a problem that you lose track of time. Looking back, the problems are not that hard and like this guy said, practice practice practice and come up with a good 4 month study schedule so you don't forget all the beginning stuff. I'm studying again and hope to pass it this time.
