An awesome demonstration of Tae Kwon Do by the Korean demo team. See them yourself at Gyeonhuigung Palace every Wednesday and Saturday at 1:30pm, but just until December.
Its not the ART that makes a man. Its the MAN that maketh the ART. General rule; its not the style that u had studied , 2 deem it effective/not . Its how u trained , had proper supervisions & how u use those techniques with regards 2 experience , skills development & mental attitude. Not everyone is a killer or a dangerous super human weapon. But we all do have that innate ability to do so. Again, it is how you want it to be. The limitless ways needs a solid foundation 2 begin. Keep on learning
I will agree to a point, the higher center of gravity and mobility Anderson Silva has is clearly Maui Thai greatly influenced by TKD. It is also good to point out that Shotokan Karate and real TKD for street fighting are virtually identical, just different emphasis. Lyoto has shown just how great a linear way of fighting is in MMA even where Karate and TKD are faced with ridiculous rules constantly.
@LegionShade MOdern tae kwon do today is more of a sport based martial art as i have been doing it for 5 years now, yes other martial arts may teach other easier self defense situations but now im finding that all self defense moves are simple but yet very effecticvve
For the love of God, DO THE RESEARCH! Grandmaster Won Kuk Lee founded Chung Do Kwan Tang So Do in 1944; a style combined from Shotokan Karate(he was a 4th degree), variations on Kung Fu from Shanghai and Henan province(see his interviews), some Taekkyon (at least added by later masters though he may have practiced in secret when Korea was apart of the Japanese Empire), some Goju Ryu, some Silla(from Korea), etc...TKD is a mixed martial art and General Choi only got yellow belt by testing...>
@NinjaDude..I'm a firm believer that no MA is the best MA. It all boils down to rules, experience, training..etc. Every MA has its strengths and weaknesses, so it's best to study various MA if you want to be a good all-round martial artist.
If you start doing TaeKwonDo your teacher will give you exercises to do at the begining of the lesson to loosen you up, so just practice using them everyday.
I do karate here in england, and it's different to what you described in America, we don't just do karate for sparing. I do agree with Yoshi it is very popular, but it depends on the persons mind on how they use it and that's why you train your mind and body =D... martial arts are like weapons it's the user that makes it great but TKD is class lol
i've been lookin around for a martial art to learn, but im not sure which one would be good with someone my size. im 6' 6" tall and 300 lbs (trying to lose weight). any suggestions would be very much appreciated :)
at 0:50 is what i tried to do for semi black fourth stripe testing and fell once, hit with my toes and used thick unforgiving boards i wish io trained harder lol this is really amazing here
is there a particular way to kick to board, because it looks pretty painful, and I thought there might be a way to kick it so your feet don't get hurt, or is it something that has to hurt no matter what?
That is awesome! How do they get so much height like that? I only have a short time in tkd myself but i would like to learn how to build height in my jumps and maybe someday improve enough to attempt something awesome like what they do.
u are right...Taekwondo is a martial arts, but its Taekwondo ITF...this is because the founder,Choi Hong Hi in World war 2 learns Karate and then mix with Korea Taekyon,so it became taekwondo.WTF is an olymppic, hand are hardly to be use in free sparring...so it is a sport..in real fight ppl did not wear any Guards for street fight...
I might if I have weakened him. I damn sure would not aim higher than the chest though. You train to kick high just to have the option and to be good at kicking low.
Master Song here in Santa Cruz trained with general choi while growing up... does that mean his art isn't valid? His traditional TKD is the exact same as Choi's, so I'm disagreeing with your statement.
Anyone that is doing TKD should pick another MA with it. Why? Well simply Because just all the kicks aren't enough and you could find yourself in situations where you can't properly. I practice some Hapkido alongside with my TKD and I really benefit from it.
True, high kicks are usually a bad idea against an opponent of decent or greater skill in a street fight, especially if they are from the back and airial. HOWEVER, IF THEY HAVE A SPEED ADVANTAGE AND HAVE WEAKENED YOU KABLOW....FURTHER TKD AND KARATE FOCUSES ON ATTACK LOW WITH KICKS IN A STREET FIGHT=1.Groin 2. Knee 3. Femoral Nerve These are the main targets for kicking in all martial arts with kicking...except for that gay Capoeira and fuck BJJ too.
Just like a vase, nice to look at, very pretty. But, do u see these acrobatic kicks and moves when TKD takes on other martial arts like say Muay Thai? Muay Thai uses simple yet devastatingly effective kicks combined with deadly punches. That's why TKD hardly survives in a fight with other MAs.
@NinjaDude..Don't assume you are the only one who trained in MA. I was in TKD and dropped it before going into Traditional Chinese MA and Judo. And I've taken on TKD in quite a few national tournaments. Yeah I don't know how it's like to get kicked in the head but I know what's it's like to punch TKD in the face. In these tournaments where diff MAs fight each other, the only MA that TKD could sometimes defeat is Silat. Otherwise, they get owned by Karate, MT, Sanshou..etc
I have never met a master who uses fin' stripes on their belt system and is legit. While it may be possible your master is legit, he probrably is yet anther mcdojo teacher. I had my fill of them in Bastrop.
@NinjaDude..I once took on TKD guy from the national team. Fella was quick with his feet, but his hands were like totally useless. I closed the distance and his kicks became totally ineffective, and I could elbow, punch and throw him at will. That's why I say, TKD demo is like modern wushu demo, full of beautiful acrobatics and nothing else. No offence to you & TKD, but I'm simply saying what I've seen and experienced.
@miang62..i've practiced both tkd and muay thai for years..and from experience..you couldn't be more wrong. In a street fight, sure muay thai is probably more effective, but put a tkd and a muay thai guy in a ring and see who gets kicked in the head first.
Do some research. How often have you ever seen General Choi in a dobok? He is just a business man that betrayed GM Lee. GM Choi of World Chung Do Kwan TKD Association is a 70 man who is in incredible shape and truely trained under GM Lee properly. Thank god General Choi is dead. I don't know much about GM Ahn one way or the other, but if he claims his skill came from General Choi he is false and focused on sport/business. If he sides with GM Lee he has my respect. Simple.
in youtube many are martial arts experts and martial arts masters, but in real life their are just fat useless facing their Personal Computers wtf........
err i have a master Kim too? does ur MASTER have a son.. named David..-.-??? and has his schoool near a china star restaurant? just wonderin.. even though there could b a milion kims around the world. hehe but 1 specific Kim i'm talkin bout lolz =)
blabla bla XD Matiral Arts is offensive xD it's just that nowadays its practiced as sport. Not to defend yourself. I know story by elder people. Who where told by old mans that matiral arts where used to defend yourself. So you had to kill you opponent before he could kill you. Yeah thats selfdefence but nowadys its different we have more laws..... Police who controll the laws... so there is no need for matiral art how it was in the past.... people who talk about effectiv are jsut aggressiv.
so what if youve been in martial arts for 40 yrs and have "succesful" schools. you think you are so right and so good just because of your status? please- stop wasting your breath
im am insulted by all of you. look at all of you guys, argueing about martial arts! (ah this ones better! No this one is! no your stupid this one is!) martial arts isnt about competion, or being different, its the complete opposite! its to be more connected withs one inner self, and to be one with the universe. To harness the ki inside of you(or chi whichever one) im am simply ashamed of all of you abusing martial arts
@chrischres or what ever ur name is u r a douche tae kwon do is awsome i dovoted my entire life to it i started when i was 3 and im 13 4 days a week and im a 2nd degree black belt sooo shut the fuck up ur jeluse that u cant do what they do
