On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Hry

VS couple Mi-24's, Tunguska, Pantsir, SA-11, and couple SU-25's! Plus provide ground support VS Technical Trucks, BMP's, T-72's, and couple T-90's!🙏👍
6:42 The happy face 😃 on the tail 😭😭 lol 😂
Day 10 of asking for superhornet fox2 dogfight vs felon. Preferably gs in superhornet
NICELY done! Great vid, great module. Can't wait to try it for myself!
This is going to be my first full fidelity aircraft having very little experience in DCS. Some might call this a mistake, but I am a masochist and the Phantom is my dream brick with wings.
If it's the plane you love, then this ain't a mistake
Not a mistake! It'll teach you the fundamentals really well.
Full Send!
good choice. Heatblur is a trustful and reliable third party developer!
Get it 100% but oh boy. That's a choice to start with this one.
6:10 waiting for a "Two Morons in an F4" episode with them sending messages to each other doing this....
It won t be synchronized between player unfortunately
In Vietnam pilots and Rios would draw a circle ⭕️ around a distant object while on the ground on each side of the canopy. They’d call this a doughnut. In a fight if your rio sees something you don’t you call “doughnut “ and the rio uses his controls to put the object in the circle, letting you see what he is looking at.
That's an useful tidbit of info!
The rio uses what controls to put the object in the circle?
@@BlyGuy Air Force f-4s featured duel controls, Navy f-4s did not.
Taxiing at 72 mph...
@@kcf881Dual controls. They all had duel controls because they are fighters.
Jester wants to know how low you plan to fly so he doesn't prematurely punch out like he does in the Tomcat. 😄
Nah - 1960's Jester has bigger balls than 1980's Jester
@@timonsolus Jester's not going to become a POW of the VC. He's ride or die in the F-4.
In all honesty, I don't think the Phantom "RIO/WSO/Bear" should be Jester. He should be "Joker".
I would think he would set the min. altimeter
Jester Jr. isn't nearly as manly as his father.
That little happy face at 4:40 :D
Yeah love the happy face on the tail of the F-4
6:42 as well
I KNOWWWWWW IT LITTERALLY SAID :D
The aviator glasses are 100% better than the eye balls.
Yeah but flying the super hornet and 👀 is hilarious.
Even as a kid, many moons ago, the Phantom has always been a fav of mine!
Same here! Remember these flying over the house when I was a kid. Can't wait!
Can we please pretty please! Get some longer format missions in this thing? I know we all have been waiting for a LONG time for this to come out!
Chill tf out out dude, they just said they got the module less than 24 hours ago. You gotta let them learn how to fly it.
you're not gonna believe this
Heatblur delivers man… can’t wait for the Eurofighter
"Potato" was the Air Force method. Navy used "Mississippi". There were some intense discussions about the precision of either method. Obviously, "One Thousand" didn't work at all.
Inter-service rivalry 😂
That might be the first time I seen the camera track the fox 2 for the kill. I might like it more than the AMRAAM camera.
WE NEED A 2 MORONS VIDEO WITH THIS ONE
Oh yes, yes please!

When I was a little kid the Phantom, the Crusader and the Starfighter were the coolest machines I had ever laid eyes on.
I look forward to seeing more soon.
Absolutely loved my time working on F-4Gs! Even managed to get a ride in one. Amazing experience!
F=4's were the interceptor in Iceland in the early=mid 80's until F=15's replaced them. Imagine a Bear seeing/used to an F-4 and the next day an F=15 shows up...
O7
The Bear crew would probably be rather disappointed because now they'd have to get out their cameras and whatnot, and start gathering as much intel as they can about this new plane, followed by turning it all into a huge pile of paperwork after landing.
Wow I clicked fast on this one. F-4 is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever made.
Recently got to sit in a old RAF F4 in the South Wales Aviation Museum, I can’t get over how spot on that cockpit is, and always wondered what the big radar screen in the centre would look like 🤙🏻
My dad was a crew chief for F4Es. I spent a lot of time around them as a kid... love this plane!
GS, my father flew the CF-104 and the RF-4C. The one thing they have in common is the J79 turbojet engine. The difference between the turbojet and the turbofan is, the turbojet LIKES air. Dad said "the faster you go, the better it gets". 500+ kts for the turbojet. Additionally, the turbojet MAKES power with speed and at altitude. Installed thrust for the J79 is between 16,000 and 18,000 lbs. At Mach 2 and 30,000ft, the J79 is making 25,000 lbs of thrust. Here is some shocking information comparing the F-104 (18,000 lbs thrust J79 turbojet) and an F-16 (27,000 lbs thrust turbofan): At Mach 2 and 40,000ft, the F-16 has a climb rate of 1,500 feet per minute. The F-104 has a climb rate of 25,000 feet per minute. Keep the F-4 FAST and FAST and FAST again, and high. Best book on fighting in the F-4 is "Scream of Eagles". READ THIS BOOK. From the book, you need to enter a fight at NO LESS THAN 550 knots and when down to 350 knots, extend extend extend to build energy so you can pitch back into the fight with NO LESS THAN 550 knots. When turning, the F-4 creates 15x the drag of the F-16 so... use the vertical where you can gain altitude and trade it for energy. I wish you great success in the F-4. Colonel Warbeck is cheering you on from the grave.
hey thanks, I'm gonna get that book and that advice is actually great. Will put into practice lets see how it does.
this information is gold, pure, thanks for putting this out here
Awesome to see the F4E again! This was the first aircraft I worked on when I joined the AF in 1981. One of the aircraft in our squadron was Col. DeBellevue’s with his 6 kills painted on the side! Such an incredible aircraft that required a lot of effort to keep it flying!
@@cosmocart2 You betcha! Lets do some math. Turbojet makes MORE power at speed and altitude and the turbofan makes LESS power. F-15C; 2 x 23,800 lbs thrust turbofans = 47,600 lbs thrust. F-4; 2 x 18,000 lbs thrust turbojets = 36,000 lbs thrust. At speed and altitude, F-15C is making less power than 47,000 lbs, probably 40,000 lbs or even less. MEANWHILE, the F-4 is making 50,000 lbs of thrust. Dad and the guys called the F-4 "The Pig". With 50,000lbs of thrust but less aerodynamically efficient than the Eagle, the Phantom should keep up or pull away from the Eagle up high and fast. How'd you like them Phantom apples?! This is why the Phantom reaches Mach 2+ up high IN A CLIMB.
Loved this. I worked on F4s in the Marines. brings back great memories, thanx
My most indelible memory of the F-4 was when that one time the Blue Angels performed here in 1971 with their F-4Js. Will never forget the roar of the J79 engines going into reheat and the low level pass that you could almost reach out and touch them. Given how air show safety regulations have evolved over the years, that will never be experienced again.
The F4 in West German camo and markings was always a favorite in my youth
US proof that even a brick can fly if only the engines are strong enough. Looks amazing, both the plane and the video!
The ultimate victory of thrust over aerodynamics. XD
Apparently early Sparrows and Sidewinders were so unreliable that it was common practice for Phantom pilots to ripple-fire their missiles to increase odds of a kill
The reason you missed the second sparrow was because you we're within the minimum engagement zone seen by the break x on your radar; That's why you wanna have the interlock on :p
Bingo! I remember that well from flying F4s in Strike Fighter 2 days.
Even if the range was better, that looks like Jester locked the ground to me.
@@theleftfootedsultan that's the problem with early non-doppler radars. Easy to lose targets in ground clutter
So, the F4 was referred to as "screamer" on take off. It was ridiculously loud and very high pitched. Like a scream. If heatblur can get that down, it would be perfect.
Jester counting down by saying 1 potato,2 potato etc is so funny
I would like to see a combat with the actual USAF first encounters with the MiG-21 using the F-4C w/o a gun-pod, AIM-4 Falcons, and the restrictions on the use of the AIM-7s only after visual identification of the target (based on rules of engagement).
Same. Though apparently it was too lopsided in favor of the MiG, with Phantoms getting shot down relatively easily.
It would test the skill of some of the stellar DCS players (like G.S.)... and show why Top Gun (and later Red Flag) were so necessary.
6:41 that rear end of the plane seems really happy and excited! :D
As a young teenager the phantom was the very first model aircraft I put together and built from scratch. Later in life I became a Volvo fan and owner. I've now come to realize I just have a love for flying bricks!.
Same. The first scale model I put together was a Phantom, and since then I've loved its looks).
6:42 The happy face 😃 on the tail 😭😭 lol 😂
Kind of funny how archaic and analogue everything is when this used to be THE advanced fighter back in the day. Jester is your official potato counter.
Cant help but think of the stories of Duke Cunningham in the F4 ... and then remember the disappointment!
The San Diego Air and Space Museum has a F-4J/S on display with Cunningham's name on it. It's a good lookin' airplane. I didn't realize it before, but AIM-7 Sparrows are huge! (And yeah, quite a disappointment.)
Virtually all of our heros are disappointments. Cunningham was no different... no matter how much we would have wanted him to be. Doesn't change that he was a helluva Rhino driver though!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Jester did you pack your shades and the cigars?
That canopy drawing reminds me for the movie Memphis Belle when a guy is calculating their chance on it :)
I love the MiG 21, & now I can have it’s counterpart. The two icons of their time, I have been looking forward to the F4 since it was announced.
Thanks for this interesting look at air-to-air in Heatblur's F-4E. I'm happy to see you are able to shoot fox ones and fox twos after just a little bit a time with the plane. The radar and other systems seem a bit intimidating. I'd better start reading ahead on these before it is finally released. I think I'll probably have fun taking off, navigating, then landing at first. Then I might try dropping the huge loads of MK-82s this thing could carry. After watching some more of your videos, maybe I'll try air-to-air!
Thank you so much for showing up! I love this plane since I was a kid, hat a Revell model as well. A "must buy", love the details.
The roaring bulder sound of a phantom rushing over is just as the real thing! Like it
Fortunate son intensifies.
Nooooo
GS might have played it during takeoff but copyright strikes and demonitization is an issue. So I put it on my phone and watched again on computer. Perfect.
Thanks GS !
My dad once described the howl of those twin J79s as a "wounded dragon"
F/A-18E/F vs F-35C (Fox-2 fight) would be epic to see! Navy vs Navy : Old vs New
Day 22
57th FIS Black Knights of Keflavik. One of these took off with the wings folded up, IIRC.
No way! This is so cool great to see this!
That thing looks AMAZING. I cannot WAIT for the videos to come out.
Is it just me but did I see a smiley face on the F-4 at 6:42 🤣
Great work on all the visuals. Keep them coming!
"It feels like a brick with 2 rocket motors attached."
The old saying goes that, with a big enough engine, even a brick can be made to fly. And the Phantom needed two.
Love to see prop planes on your channel! I have learned so much about jet BFM from your channel, would love to learn prop BFM as well!
As usual, your on top of things. Very impressed with the detail of the landing gear. Just fantastic.
My uncle flew the phantom and the F-15A. He once wrote “please erase this writing” on an F-15 canopy in magic marker.
He wanted to see how long it would take for someone to erase it.
Instead, the crew chief erased it and wrote “DO NOT ERASE” in grease pencil (which is much harder to clean completely).
I was waiting so long for this vid to drop 🔥🔥🔥
❤❤❤ thanks for this ...I was waiting for this for so long
fantastic-can't wait to see more of the Heatblur Phantom
Beautiful Demonstration. Thanks GS.
An F-4 variant (an RF-4) is the reason why I'm an "aviaphile" now. When I was in the Civil Air Patrol, I got to "fly" the RF-4 simulator at Gowen Field in Boise. Later I got to fly the F-111 simulator at Mountain Home AFB.
Awesome demonstration!!!!! Thank you!!!!
Great video; Heat Blur did a superb job on the plane, and you did a superb job on those bogies.
That was really great experience with F4 bring lots of memories from long time ago. Thanks for making all this great videos love your work ❤❤
Thank you for the tips. Very helpful.
Thanks for the video. The Phantom looks stunning! Look forward to more dogfights featuring this beauty.
And the "OLD" J-79 engines producing lots of smoke. Great realism. Thanks GS
I already bought the F-4E for myselfe and my friend...this morning with about 1 week left until it is supposed to be released, I was wondering - "when will we start to see the first youtubers play around with this?". And now Growling has his awesome hands on this amazing airplane - I hope Longshot gets an early copy as well!? It would be super cool to see two guys take off, fly and land in formation in F4s.... Thank you for sharing Mr. Growling Sidewinder! Much love from Norway (Platonic love!!!!!!!!!!!)
6:42 *Why is there a smiley face on the rear end??* ->😃
😂
YAAAAS I really wanted this, thank you GS
That brought memories back, watching that unmistakeable silhouette again, used to see them all the time living in East Anglia. I think that was the 2nd aircraft type I learned to identify as a kid after the Lightning. The modelling is incredible.
When you read pilot's descriptions of Vietnam air to air conflict with the F4 they always mention using the vertical as the Vietnamese mainly stayed in a turning fight which was why Cunningham was surprised in his combat with Toon (sp?) when they went into a vertical rolling scissors.
Did not expect to hear Jester counting potatoes, not disappointed
Please do an F-4 vs F-14 dogfight when it officially comes out.
Not a contest, lol.
Yeah f14 would wipe the floor with a f4 even the f14a
It's not the plane it's the pilot.
@@DharmaChannelOfficial That's really only true for roughly comparable planes - try comparing a F22 against an Me262.
@@Haz0052-tu7rr just hope jester can help.
1:40 - I don't know the minds of the coders, but is it possible the "how low are we going?" questions are intended to set Jester's "oh, God, we're gonna die, here comes the ground!! EJECT!" responses? Like, if you tell him you're not going below 500 and you reach 200, he's jumping out. But you tell him you're going treetop level, he won't punch out so early.
You gotta love all the little details and effort they put into this! 🤟😁
The glasses and the sun visor 9:42 😂
I just can’t get over what an amazing job Heatblur has done in modeling the aircraft, it looks absolutely stunning in game.
My very first sight at a jet was my dad bringing me a ceramic replica of an F4 Phantom from Italy back in 2006. Hreat to see it modeled im DCS
Absolutely awesome man.
the ground as he exploded on impact just looks phenomenal
The Navy Version will be interesting. Imagine landing this thing on the Boat. Way faster than the Turkey, even less help from the Plane itself.
Absolutely incredible! Can’t wait to get into this! Haven’t been able to play in a few months ugh it’s killing me.
Loved working on the F-4.!!!
Beautiful aircraft
I grew up watching episodes of the History Channel’s “Dogfights” TV show and my favorite by far was the one on Operation Bolo. When I took a trip to the national museum of the USAF in third grade, I had no idea the the F4 on display was actually Colonel Robin Olds’. I was practically starstruck seeing the actual Phantom sitting there.
Wonderfull video, can't wait to see more of the f-4
Just watched a British documentary about the F4"s history this weekend. Awesome to see it in action here.
As in real life, this F4 smokes like Winston Churchill. 😂
It was smoking near the end when he was landing…
12:30 The physics of the landing gear is fantastic 🤩🤩🤩
OOHHHH HELLL YEAH! Vietnam videos here we go. How about doing some Wild Weasel Missions in the F4?
One of my favorite planes ever...I pre-ordered MONTHS ago. Can't wait!!!
The F4 was known as "The Flying Brick," for it's flight characteristics.
It was a "dirty," aircraft, even when it was bare bones with nothing beneath the wings.
They say that the F4 flew mainly by the sheer will of the engines, as they pumped out tons of power. And the F4 could carry a substantial loadout of external tanks, bombs, missiles and other munitions.
DCS is the 'bomb!'
i was gonna say, GS said "it flies like a brick with two rockets strapped to it," and i thought yep, that's pretty accurate
Beautiful modelling and fabulous detailing of the F4!
Thank you for another, as always great video! This was a really interesting preview and I love the look of the F4 Phantom. Oh.. and that was a cool smiley at timestamp 06:42 ! Br //M
Its interesting you said that you found that the F4 has the edge in the vertical climb when fighting MIGs.
When Top Gun was created, the primary technique they taught was getting into a vertical climb and looping over to attack. The F4 kill ratio improved from 2 kills and 1 loss to 12 kills to 1 loss after Top Gun grads returned to Vietnam.
These results propelled Top Gun into stardom and now every aircraft has a weapon school equivalent for graduate level tactics training.
-MH-60r Aircrew.
I can’t wait to see you fly the F4 in more videos and maybe even a bandit unknown! Super, super cool!
Absolutely amazing!
Absolute King Energy.
"This dropped less than 24hrs ago, this feels real intuitive."
Dude gets half an Ace with a Platform he might as well have gone AWOL with he was so green on the Controls.
The F-4 proved that if you strapped big enough engines to a brick you could make it fly.
I'm more into the more modern stuff, but a GS video is always fun and this thing was indeed nice work, very beautiful.
In one documentary I watched before, F-4 pilot stated before that F-4s aerodynamics is like a rock, but it has a brute power.
Used to watch these take off from McDonell Douglas plant, and with Air NG. LOUD N SMOKEY.
Looks awsome!
That looks freaking awesome. Really looking forward to this module. Always loved the F-4 as a kid.
