To be fair, it depends on what is recorded. Some mangakas have said before how much fun drama CD spin-offs/adaptations are behind the scenes.
Not saying japanese people can't ever have fun but there's always a sense of duty no matter how ridiculous it gets. Ganbarimasu!
It’s because of how ridiculously crowded the market is over there. Too many voice actors fighting for the same jobs.
They’re guests, they can have fun but if its actual VAs doing the dubs, they probably have to be a little serious with deadlines etc.

It's really awesome to see the process of dubbing behind the scenes. How collaborative it is and how each person on set contributes to the finished product. Great to see the tech too and how it can take the best parts of multiple recordings together to make a more cohesive end product.

Sydney voice acting was so good. I could really see her become a professional VA if she wasn't a youtuber
I feel like in an alternate universe, she would've followed the same path that Kayli Mills took. She used to be a small-time anime CZcamsr (under the name MewKiyoko) before becoming a professional English dub VA, landing roles such as Emilia in Re Zero and Alice in SAO.
I remember her doing some VA work on one of PixelFade's visual novels before.
