I never tire of seeing Carson's expression when Mary comes down the stairs. He is as proud of her as her father.
Well he has been in Mary’s Life since she was little 🥲❤️
He's over done.
💯
Mary is the perfect example of everything that Carson idealizes in a lady of the nobility and feels he is invested in her as if she was his own child.
I will never get over his death. Matthew and Mary truly brought out the best in each other. Even when they fought about the inheritance, they would still lie in the same bed every night, without hesitation. That’s true love right there.
Killing off Matthew was bad
@@MultiMattman68 It was just as bad as killing off Lady Sybil too.
@@MultiMattman68 pity that Dan Stevens decided to quit TAT
Sadly, many couples lie in the same bed each light with very little love between them.
@@MultiMattman68 They had to kill him off. He wanted to leave the show.
I love Carson’s reaction to Mary walking down the stairs-he truly is a father figure to her.
It reminded me of my only daughter's wedding day. No horse & carriage, but a lovely old Model T took us to the service. We chose an Anglican church for the old world atmosphere.
Season 3 was jammed packed full of Drama. Mary and Matthew's wedding, Lady Edith being jilted at the altar, Lady Sybil giving birth and passing away that same night. Last but not least, Matthew's car crash in the finale.
Love love love Mary and Matthew together so much. Why oh why did Jullian Fellowes not give us the actual wedding ceremony and reception. After 2 seasons and many years kept apart did not the fans deserve it!
The same reason he didn’t give us Matthew’s funeral, for Julian it’s too “emotional” and we as an audience should fill in the blanks. I HATED that they skipped over the wedding and Mary’s reaction to Matthew’s death.
What are you talking about JF not giving us the wedding? Their wedding is a major event in the first episode of Season 3. Parts of it are even in the video.
You do realise it's all make believe don't you?
I suppose we are not as important as the Dowager Countess so who care if we too hate greek drama?
I truly love this Downton Abbey
Tom Branson is the most sensible, big-hearted member of the family.
I really wish the actor that played Matthew Crawley never left! It was so shocking to us all and in the most brutal way!
why was it shocking? It was well known wasn't it that Dan Stevens wanted to leave
Dan Stevens is fantastic
Mary and Matthew were meant to be. Henry's fine, but he will never be Matthew.
My thoughts exactly, Henry’s just “fine” but he’ll never be Matthew. 💔
I don't like Henry at all... He's abscent most of the time and to me the love he has for his cars makes him selfish and inmature. Mary truly deserves more. :(
Yeah, unfortunately, the producers couldn't figure out who would replace Matthew (after Dan decided abruptly he didn't want to play Matthew anymore). So we got a whole ton of ugly/no chemistry suitors for Mary until Henry - which imo would have worked great except he got like no screen time. No time to develop his character.
I think the entire suitors storyline should’ve been scrapped, with a greater focus on Mary healing and running the estate. Then Henry comes in and we get more time to develop “Henry loves cars and Mary is scared of loving him because of that”
Cora.. pure elegance and the way she says good luck to Mary.. so special
I always wonder if the reason Matthew ends up dying is because Mary opened her eyes and looked at him
Thank you! I was looking for this comment as I thought so myself but superstition aside, I do wonder if she thinks this/remember it when he passes and if she blames herself in part.
I was going to write that comment as sarcastic. Is that true.. So i was not wrong?😮 i mean in general is it true?
It's bad luck for the groom to see the bride - don't think it's so for the reverse. She just offered to close them so they were on an equal footing.
the way she speaks to carson first.... god i love downton
I love them ! They are my favourite TV couple! The music they use for them is so lovely and makes all of their scenes more romantic
When I got married in 1995, I chose the same music for the ceremony, "Jesu Joy of man's desiring" and Stanley's "Trumpet Voluntary". What a coincidence!
😮
She looked during the kiss...what foreshadowing
The groom can’t see the bride… the other way around doesn’t really count ;)
@jmariejudd1 • Mary looked at the end of the kiss, I think for the following. Mary was never as sure of herself as her reparté made her appear. So, she looked as reassurance that Matthew did really care enough to indulge her, even as he did for the proposal.
Mary looked lovely in her wedding clothes wish we could of seen the reception and the wedding vows I wish Mary had told him how much she loved him in the beginning
Carson's face brought tears to my eyes!
Fast forward to Season 6 when Tom tells Henry he's been the Best Man at both of her weddings.
We all loved this character Matthew, him and Lady Mary made a great match
He and lady Mary.
@@judeirwin2222 yes whatever
The expression on lord Grantham and Carsons faces,as Lady Mary comes down the grand staircase, never fails to make me laugh. They both of them look as if they can't either believe or understand that this isn't the little toddler, or rebellious teenager, they're used to seeing around the place. This sudden transformatio n to beautiful, mature, woman/ bride is so incredible that all they're capable of is staring in open mouth astonishment,at the aparition before them.
😄😅🤭
The same expression when Lady Oscar came down the staircase dressed like a "lady"
She looked at him, and he died. 😂🤦🏼
I literally just connected the dots and now I'm so mad at Mary 😭
@samantha smith I know, I was sad to see him go. Especially since he played the character so well. Just making a joke about bad luck.

To think that if the Crawley's were real people, Mary & Matthew probably have great great grandchildren right now.
I'll never get over Matthew not living long enough to become Earl of Grantham. He would have made a good one.
Well, they did have George and he was born in 1922ish, he probably went to WWII, he then married and lived to see his children and grandchildren. And I still mourn Matthew as well, it still is a great shock when I watch the series. 😫
Good god. You are aware that this is all fiction, right?
@@judeirwin2222 Good God, you didn't read the first sentence of my comment. I literally said if they were real. Person responding is just humoring me as well about descendants if they were real.
He would've been the only Earl of Grantham to be financially competent in Downtown's history.
I still haven’t recovered from Matthews death. 🥺
I love this show and wish it would come back on
There are reruns shown periodically. And there is another movie that will be released in the United States in May. It was originally supposed to be released in March, but, sadly, it has been pushed out to May. I hope it is as good as the first movie was.
Priceless 🌹 always Priceless 🌹 Downton Abbey is One In A Million 🤗
the music, playing in the background... so beautiful
I love the wedding of Mathew and Mary.
Mary's headband/ tiara for the wedding is very similar to that worn by Princess Catherine and Princess Charlotte at
the Coronation.
"So encouraging to see the future unfurl."
"As long as you remember as it will bare No resemblance to the past."
Bear no reset, not bare.
Bear no resemblance, not bare.
Shirley Mac Laine from Steel Magnolias is now on Downton Abbey 😂 I couldn't believe it!!! I can't help expecting her to go in full Weezer mode any minute!🤣🤣 I would die laughing
I heard "How do I look Cousin?" Hahahah
I got spoilered before I saw the Christmas one and I never watched it again after that. I couldn’t bear to.
If superstitions were to be believed, Mary actually caused the death of Matthew. When she kissed him the night before the wedding, she opened her eyes and looked at him, which was considered unlucky at the time. Thoughts anyone?
only the groom cant look
"You mustn't cheat" proceed to open her eyes😂
March18th2024im watching Downton Abbey 😊😊
Agora é que ouvi a voz de Dan Stevens de verdade..voz maravilhosa..
Aqui no Brasil são dublados..mas mesmo assim apaixonantes!@
My parents ALWAYS AND FOREVER
We deserved to see their full wedding!!!
This episodes illustrates the history of Royal Intermarriages since Medieval and Early Modern Europe. Of course, Europe did not have exclusivity in this regard, as It was a global practice among aristocratic / royalty families in their unceasing efforts to maintain their royal blood-line / heritage, power and, of course, their accumulated wealth.
Wish someone could download the whole series.
I still don't like the way he spoke to Mary at lavanià grave also when she was dying he said he could never be happy without her he should of died with lavanià and Mary should of gone to America after all those years of loving him it must of been very hurtful to hear him say those words
Mary looked lovely in her wedding. Clothes wish we could of seen the reception
01:27 Whenever I see Mary cheating while kissing Matthew I can't stop thinking this was the moment that cursed their marriage by killing him lol
only the groom can't look at the bride
I really wish Matthew had stayed in the story and they coyld have taken over Downton together. I didn't like her new husband
Ameiiiii❤❤❤❤❤
Looking so nice.
6:29 The church
GOSTARIA QUE FOSSE DUBLADO
Its like my Friend
I still can't believe what he said to Mary at lavanià funeral how he could turn around and then ask Mary to marry him just to stop her going to America h should of been left on his own and Mary should of gone to America and found a good man like her father said after all the love she felt for Matthew it was like a dagger in her he was such a big headed actor
I can not see why Mary wanted to marry Matthew after what he said to lavanià in front of Mary he told her he wouldn't be happy without her he should of died with lavanià and then they could of been togetherness forever and Mary should have gone to America and found a good man like her father said
Such English restraint.🙂
😳💙
DONT DO THIS TO ME
Mary did open her eyes when they kissed before the wedding. Bad luck?
What season do we find out Mary is pregnant 😊
so shee keeps her eyes ope and he ends up dieing
E mesmo sem olhar...para ela..foi pedir um *,beijo*....
Deu um azar danado..
Ele morreu.logo depôs...
Antes tivesse olhado..agarrado ele..beijado de verdade ..kkkk
I can't believe he said all those things to lavanià and then turned around to Mary poor Mary she spent all those years loving him and he never had the decency to tell her about lavanià and that is so too faced and he knew he was going to jump ship to make a love film in Cornwall for his wife to watch kinky or what ???
did cora forget mr pamuk?
Mary had a lot to put up with Matthew asking Lavinia to marry him he should have wrote and told her like her father told her to write to Matthew about Richard she did. Not deserve it and after Lavinia funeral she should of gone to America like her father told her to and find a good man as Matthew was going to die
So is nobody going to mention that Mary said it was bad luck to see each other and so Matthew said not if we both close our eyes, then Mary opened her eyes so technically Mary brought the bad luck! Struggle to get pregnant and obviously Matthew death so basically its Mary's fault 😉 if only she kept her eyes shut
What a dreary almost sacklike garment that wedding dress is. Makes the poor thing look utterly flat chested and drab.
Not a fan 20s era fashion either... but fashion silhouette had to change since they were no longer making corsets (material and factories went to war time uniform and weapon production)
It’s the drop waist.
Ikr? Most of her regular evening gowns were far prettier than her wedding gown.
She wasn't even wearing any jewelry, except pearl earrings and that rather plain headband, holding the veil.
Why would a well born and rather snobbish bride not at least wear some family heirlooms, even if lace or embroidered fabric might not have been available under postwar rationing?
I know, the general style of that time was what it was...but they made it work far better in other scenes.
It was the fashion of the time to look flat chested. It was the 20's.
@@cremebrulee4759
Sure, but compare her in this scene, to how she looked in the gown, she wore in the Christmas episode. When Mathew proposed to her. These events happened within months of each other and yet she looks absolutely stunning in one dress and drab and boring in the other. Now granted, deep red is a far more flattering color on her as well, but still.
Although there may have been some rule, that a bride in her position has to be very 'covered up' for her church wedding and they choose long sleeves and a high neck because of that. Like royal brides still have to do even today. That's really the only explanation, I can think of.
I love that Mary asks Carson's opinion first before speaking to her father, a very wholesome relationship ❤️
