Dolly is probably older than the combined age of everyone on Pentatonix and yet is still able to belt it out at full power. That is talent.
Maybe not. That would make Dolly over 150 years old. She's legendary, but I don't think the legend goes back *quite* that far.
I just love the walking bass line that Avi does on this. It's somehow understated and completely kick-assical at the same time. The whole song is amazeballs, but that bass line in particular just seems flawless to me.
Dolly is such a class act! PTX had put together their arrangement and took it to the studio. When Dolly saw that they had given her the lead exclusively, she insisted that they take at least one verse for themselves.
They were hesitant to show her the arrangement they had, but she loved it. Another reason she wanted them to take the 2nd verse was because she wanted to sing HARMONY to her song. :o)

It was a good decision, not because we really needed to hear Scott, but because it gave Dolly that new awesome background call and response part she basically invented on the spot. It freshened up a song we all knew pretty well.

I’m mad that CZcams didn’t recommend this for a whole week. Did you see that Pentatonix was just nominated for their 4th Grammy yesterday for their album Evergreen? I’m so excited.
Your reactions are so spot on but I agree with the person who said they wish you would let them sing and not sing over them.
When I think of Dolly I have to think of Kenny Rogers. Home Free did a song with him a few years before he died. You should check that one out too. It's wonderful. It was "Children go where I send thee". You can't go wrong with Dolly or Kenny, PTX or Home Free.

Mitch was still mostly bald when they recorded the video for Hallelujah. Even on their Christmas special that year he had very short hair.
I think the funniest part is at the end when dolly says "just because you can", she looks at Kirsten 😅
Dolly sang "I will always love you " in the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" that she starred in along with Burt Reynolds.
I had not heard this one in a while. I think part of it is just Dolly she has that vocal sensibility that's unconscious. I do notice when she moves away from the mic and when she moves closer, That would change the fine detail of her voice too.

Maggie, your right, the vibrato is what you don't quite do like her (at this point)... but you are good... and yet, she is Dolly. One of these days people will say... and yet, she is Maggie. I loved this when I first heard it. I've listened to Dolly most of my young life, and now my older life... and the Pentatonix... and Maggie. I'm blessed.
Dolly wrote so many hit songs that people don't realize. She & Mac Davis are 2 performers who have written major hits and no one suspects it. ❤️

As Dolly puts it you just got to relax when you sing and dont force the notes. I went to 2 of her concerts and she was very relaxed. out of the 200 concerts I went to she had the better shows because she was having real fun and everyone could feel it Notice at the end Dolly had to get them to get loose to smile. Dolly puts a smile on so many faces.
Maggie if you've never heard any of the collaboration that Dolly, Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris did, please do so immediately. I think you'll be blown away. Their cover of Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush" just slays me!

And yet another example of why I often enjoy the reactions of the reactors more than the original music. To watch Maggie rock out and chair dance in this video is enough to make me giddy.
And it was recorded live.
In an interview I believe Dolly said she wrote "I Will Always Love You" and "Joline" in the same night. She also recorded the former long before Whitney Houston, her tender, heart wrenching version will always be my preferred recording. Whitney is Great! but Dolly's recording makes me weep like a little baby, It is also "Our Song" with my love.
Dolly is Dolly, nothing more needed to be said.
It's hard to believe looking at her, but Dolly was 71 when they recorded this.
Pentatonix were, of course, totally star-struck that they were getting to sing with *Dolly Parton (!),* but they've said that she went out of her way to make sure they were comfortable with her. They had expected that they'd just supply harmony for Dolly, but she insisted that they take a verse as well. Of al their collaborations, this is the one Pentatonix most enjoyed doing.
And *this* performance was the first time that *Dolly* won a Grammy for Jolene, incomprehensible though that is.

I'm sure someone has told you this but from Dolly's original version of this to the tons of covers, no one has gotten a Grammy for it until now. Ptx and silly parton got a Grammy for this version. I'm glad bc this song deserves a Grammy.

You should react to Chapel Hart's response to this song. They wrote a follow up song to address Jolene in the story. It's called "You Can Have Him Jolene".
Mitch went thru a stage where he was changing his look a lot. That's not unusual for young adults but he took it to a more extreme level than most. Thankfully, this stage didn't last long :).
Dolly released "I Will Always Love You" and it went to number 1 for her as well, way before Whitney, Whitney just created as Monumental version.. And That's how you win the Grammy for Vocal Country Group or Performance..
For that technique you're looking for, you need to watch the movie RHINESTONE, where Dolly Parton tries to teach Sylvester Stallone to be a country singer 😅

Hey, I'm not sure if you've heard this, but I think you should really do a review of Stupendium's song Shine Through, I think you'd absolutely love it, I know me and my wife have loved the song since the first time we heard it.

My understanding is that as part of Super Fruit there was a bet between Scott and Mitch, which involved Mitch going bald if Scott won. I don't know the details. Does anyone out there? You have a thinner voice, sort of like Mitch has a thinner voice.
Mitch wanted to see how he would look bald. He also had some damage due to all of the hair color changes. He posted a poll on Superfruit social media asking if he should shave off his hair. Over 85 percent said "NO", so of course he said blank the haters and had Scott shave off his hair in the Superfruit video. It was fun to watch.

You want a new look on "I will Always love you" listen to Dolly perform it and find the video where she explains why she wrote it. The song is a very deep very personal song, and that IMO makes Dollies version the superior one to Whitneys.
I would say your voice is fuller, and rounder (is that even a thing?). Hers, I would classify as smoky and dramatic.

Sadly, I'm just now learning more of Pentatonix than just an a capelan group. But Dolly I grew up with. First saw her on the Porter Wagner Show and have followed her ever since. Her accolades still don't reflect on her talent and abilities. BTW: You look so much like my adopted son's wife it's uncanny.
