I had a set of Micron's before some thieving artist stole them out of my bookbag when I was in high school. They leaked ink like a sieve though, so not a big loss.
I like your message that you don't need any special supplies to get started. Not many other Artists are willing to admit that. Your blindfolded doodle also had a hidden message I think. You drew something blindfolded that looked like a chaotic mess but then you took the blindfold off and tweaked it until you had something wonderful, showing that all mistakes can be fixed. Thanks a lot for the lessons!

well there's definitely a difference between a $3 pen and a $30 pen. but at some point, the amount of money you spend on a fountain pen isn't worth
how much better it is (probably in the hundreds). personally i would reccomend a lamy safari as they are pretty cheap for the quality you get. if you want to know more about fountain pens, i'd reccomend goulet pens' channel (i'm not affiliated in any way though lol).

I've used both the Sakura Microns and the Staedtler, and like them both pretty much equally, except that the Staedtler tends to have more of a "felt pen" feel in the larger nib sizes. They do, however lay down a lot of ink when you're filling in shapes. The largest I have is an 08, and I love it. The ink is consistently dark and the li especially don't get "scratchy" when it's almost empty. They just stop working. Just my two cents' worth.

thanks to you...i don't feel guilty having multiple pens...as I've found some work better on different papers, and some just feel better in the moment...and...i love bic pens...they always work, on any substrate and make even crappy paper a worthy space for ink. and it's taken me a while to learn about paper qualities, gsm's, cold vs hot press...why i love fabriano paper for most pen and ink but not all fabriano papers feel right under the same pens or markers. i suppose creativity's inspiration includes variety til 'the one' , or two...or more, become the best du jour.

Very informative. I've noticed that no one actually mentions the Rotring Tikky Graphic pens. I have found them most useful so far. And they stay put when I'm erasing stray pencil lines, which has been an issue for me with Micron and Pitt Artist pens. The Mars Staedtlers are a close second. I have lots of others that are now basically being stored until my family members need a pen.

Hey Peter, I love your drawings, they're very inspiring! I was thinking about investing in a fountain pen because I want to be able to draw really bold black, consistent lines (with not much flex if any). I typically use the Pigma Microns and they do a good job but I find if I want a decent bold line while using my preferred size of .05 to .08, then I pretty much have to hold the pen completely vertically to get this effect, which is pretty uncomfortable for me. I’m sure buying a fountain pen would do a good job and I’m not sUper worried about the price but are there any other pens you might suggest I use that would get the same effect? Possibly the Rotring Isograph (.70)? I also would consider other pens and tools like a dip pen or charcoal, but I would like something I can bring out with me without worrying about making too much of a mess, both on my paper or at the dinner, cafe, or whatever. Thanks for reading this. Cheers from Ontario Canada!

my current favorite pen is the pilot precise v5 (it might be v-something, im pretty sure however its the v5). the tip is a good width, the ink has a nice blackness too it and doesn't show up too blue. only complaint has to be that the ink does run out pretty quickly, i can get maybe 3 - 4 drawing out of each one, however there are 4 packs available.

Peter, have you ever reviewed Faber Castel Pitt Pens? If you have not, I'd love to send you some to review. They are my favorite, because as you're drawing, they don't smear, and they dont leave a blob when you stop in place for a moment, like the copic multiliners and sharpies do.

One of my most popular art pieces on any art site has been entirely made out of pencil (for the undersketch) and multi-colored Bic pens, so yeah, you don't need the fancy stuff to make good art.
I only buy pigma microns so I can 1) make lineart commissions and 2) make watercolor pieces that include lineart.
Don't let cheap supplies hold you back, people!
Side Note: If you're going to get a white pen, this is where you don't buy a cheap one (buy a mid-price one). I bought the cheapest white art pen I could find and it lasted for barely 3 months and I hardly ever used it.

The glass pen seems very satisfying. I might just have to but one.. or two.. or three...

Peter, have you tried feathers yet? ^_^ they are good with ink and have a little reservoir to hold the ink after you cut the tip at an angle....... and then use the tip 'upside down' on the page as it flows better than the right way up

Peter Draws, you may have answered this before. I just haven't come across it. Do you get more than one drawing out of your Sakura Microns? I have found them to have an amazing capacity but my single use has never compared to what you do. I very much enjoy your videos not only for the hypnotic effect of watching you draw but also for listening to your calm voice. Thank you Peter!

This was a good representation of all these pens. I am guilty of owning all except 2 that you mentioned. 👍🖋
