History about this hymn - The hymn is a prayer for God to remain present with the speaker throughout life, through trials, and through death. Written by Scottish Anglican cleric Henry Francis Lyte, in 1847 as he was dying from tuberculosis.
When my mother passed away in January 2022 I was searching for some hymns to play at her funeral. I discovered the videos by Gentri and was uplifted by their performances. We played their versions of Abide With Me and Be Still My Soul at her service. Gentri's music has been a constant source of comfort since her passing. I was honored to tell them this story in person last October when I was fortunate to see them live here in Wisconsin. They were so gracious and compassionate. Their music helps me get through all my good and not so good days. Thank you.
I struggle daily with chronic depression and this hymn gives me the strength to keep going. Thank you, and may we meet someday in Gods wonderful presence.

I find this so spiritually moving that I felt led to share it with someone. Since then a regularly healthy 65 year old had a stroke. He is on hospice and the LORD will call him home. They are in waiting mode now with the funeral planned and family flying in. He just played this for the wife and children. It was just what they needed.

Thank you Lord Jesus that Mark and all of us know to run to You from whence cometh our help. Help us to continually lean on You and enter into Your presence that’s always with us. Many times I know dear Lord you want us to be still with you doing nothing less but abiding in Your presence. Help us to do that and desire to do that everyday of our lives and be in prayer with you continually. Help us to know You care and You desire to hear from us daily and always. Our oldest son passed away of a massive heart attack in early July. He was 47 and was, we thought in good health so it was such a shock to us all.
4 days ago, we held his Memorial and this song was part if the service. What a blessing to have this hymn in our hearts. My prayer is that those dealing with the loss of a loved one will feel the Lord's comforting presence abiding with them.
Eugene, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sending a prayer to our Father in Heaven that you may comfort in His eternal plan. May you feel the Savior's love encircle you and help you to find answers to your deepest questions, and a balm of healing to your hearts as you continue your journeys through mortality without his tangible presense.
It's a beautiful rendering of the melody to Henry Francis Lyte's text that he wrote while dying of tuberculosis.
If the singing is any better than this in Heaven we will have to have our glorified bodies to be able to handle it. So beautiful it pulls the emotion through my chest. My heart couldn't take it any better.
This is one of my absolute favorite hymns, and this may be the best rendition of it I've ever heard, right up there with Audrey Assad's version. I am being baptized today. We are singing this as a special item at my church. I can't tell you how special it feels.

My fiance is surgeon volunteering in Syria and they massascuring HOPE ISIS is killing the children and pregnant he is saving the daughter we were adopting who lost in bombing of our hospital he saved in sugery fir 5 months searched any family there none left so decided and they killed three weeks ago and broke him and I thought I was gonna too but Hod is good everyone pray for him I and he turned back to God he is such faithful...this is beautiful of God's grace in our lives and how carries thru.

This song has brought me great comfort and peace as I am faced with stage IV cancer. Selah.
With this whole pandemic being hard on a lot of people and especially myself. This song and arrangement is letting me know that there will be sunshine behind these dark clouds. Thank you GENTRI. This definitely helped me to steadfast during these dark times.

It's no surprise that this song was as beautifully done as all the Gentri songs I have heard so far. As with Tell Your Heart To Beat Again I was so moved by the beauty of this piece that I cried. You men in Gentry know how to find the heart of a song and make us feel it in our hearts.

Thanks for helping me cry, because that's what i need sometimes. It sounds weird maybe, but i had a time that i didn't felt emotion at all.. i blocked everything. And now i start to open up more, and cry more to process the pain and trouble i had. But sometimes i need a little help with that.. and you help me with that part as well.

My sister is battling pulmonary fibrosis from covid pneumonia . and suffering so much internal stress and anxiety. Shes in the hospital. I know she loves God with all of her heart. We both do. That was my favorite hymn during my mission. So peaceful and I loved singing it at the end of the day with my missionary companions especially whenever we were staying in a 4-man apartment and could sing the hymns in SATB. The spirit was always there. ❤
This Hymn has always been a favorite of mine. I absolutely loved in this video how you transitioned from what felt like this dark place it looked like you were in and internalizing the pain/struggle, to a state of light, hope, peace and solace. OK - I'm not usually a fan of these old hymns (comes from 45 years as a church musician), but this was... Was, what's the word? Oh yeah... MAGNIFICENT.
GENTRI - if you're listening. For many of these goldie oldies, when they are sung in church by congregations there is a camp feel around them. Singing them with gusto might be fun, but it loses the meaning, power and, depth of the really lovely POETRY of the lyrics. This hymn, in particular, has a very transcendent message - applicable to whatever stage of faith (Christian or non-Christian) one is at. This is such a prayerful and reflective arrangement, not to mention the chemistry of the four of you (your pianist is awesome and should be counted and credited as well) - that it really is a musical medication on the Presence that is always within us. I've listened several more times. Thank you, Thank you.

Thank you for another wonderful video. I have been listening a lot to the new album. I am a recovering addict and I can't adequetly express how much your music has touched my soul and given me strength and comfort in my recovery.
I've only begun listening to your music over the last week, and am growing to appreciate it more with every video. I like very much that you don't just sing for the sake of singing, but everything is very purpose-driven and focused. Listening to and watching you play out a little story that could well have been the beginning of the song way back when it was first sung to the Lord is very powerful. Thank you for teaching, as well as singing.
