The man knows how to end in a cliffhanger...
Dadgummit Scott!!!
I had to laugh out loud when you said “ so that means Christmas Eve my sewer will backup “ I remember 2 Christmas Eves in a row when mine did that.
Plumbing problems and toothaches are guaranteed holiday events.
That question at the end “what could go wrong”
Has bit me a few times
Appreciate your humility and honesty
It should be city code that all Essential Craftsman videos be no less than 1.5 hours long.
It could help a lot of people
Think larger... universal
Saw a clip on Buckin Bill Ray's channel that he spoke to Scott. We'd loved to see a conversation with you two!! 30-60 minutes would be great! Thanks Scott.
czcams.com/video/KtB94JIRW_0/video.html We have a podcast on a second channel. Here's Nate's interview with Buckin
These videos make me smile, it’s like listening to the grandpa that I never had., share his life wisdom
Happens every time. Its that point in the project when you say to yourself "Well I'm committed now". Thanks!
You learn so much about the task you’re doing, and yourself, when you jump in with both feet.
The real measure of a professional is not to carry out a project without error, problems, or difficulties. But it's anticipating problems and managing them as they occur!
My grandparents house had apple trees by their septic tank.
We used to call them s**t apples.
But man they made the absolutely best pie.
That's awesome, what did you call the pie? :)
@@rjtumblem.czcams.com/video/Q1ajLnuw2oo/video.html
I still love how I could listen to you all day just like mike row .
In my 40+ years in the construction industry, I have never found a better piece of locate equipment than an excavator.
😂
That's a great tip with the wooden stakes in the bottom to mark the grade for bedding!
"What could go wrong?"
Famous last words, my friend! Have a happy Turkey Day.
A cliff hanger from Essential Craftsman. Can't wait for the next episode!
Hasn't been this much suspense since Ming the Merciless was about to kill Flash Gordon & we had to wait a week for the next movie short to see if he made it.
Rest easy knowing I am now sharing your sense of dread at this project.
I feel your pain as I recently had to do a similar project.
Shout out to "This old house," the best home improvement show in America! This guy for the most part knows his stuff though!
I am glad you saved that tree, we have a influx of people moving in and the first thing to do is cut all the trees down? Makes the whole neighborhood look like the last dump they used to call home
Burb fugees are just a special kind of , something .
They spare no expense to bring everything with them .
The next agenda will be incessantly complaining about the lack of ( or distance to ) everything they COULDN'T bring with them .
Because they wanted to " get away from it all " .
You can't make this up .
A legit cliffhanger! EC, you old dog. LOL Still the hardest working guy on CZcams! Keep up the good work.
A cliffhanger!?!? Who Shot JR style!
I'm feeling some of your pain as we just has a new water well drilled in our yard and I spent the better part of several days with my little John Deere 425 with the front quick hitch and shovel bucket removing all of the "drilling muck" from my yard. My back and elbows are still recovering.
Thank goodness my parents planted Zoysia plugs in our yard 55 years ago, because I was able to scape most of that muck off of the top of that beautiful, thick grass and rake off the remaining bits, and it looks great and will recover fine after a little rain and time.
Biggest willow I’ve ever seen in my life👍
Grandad always said, while he has wearing out another pair of gloves. “The ones who don’t make mistakes are the ones who never try. And once you know, you know.”
Aaah plumbing...gotta love it.
I'd make sure an additional waste line is installed to the shop. Best thing I did in the last 10 years is install a lavatory in my garage. When you're working on stuff and need to go, last thing the wife wants is you trapsing into the house all dirty.
A cliffhanger?!?! Scott!! 😂
WHAT A CLIFFHANGER!!! AHHH!!!
I know this comment is too late, but if you didn't, you should have run a sewage pipe along with the water and gas pipes to the workshop. It sounds like you don't have a bathroom in the shop, but you could have set up everything you need for a future project.
Wow 10 secs in thanks my mum wanted a willow planted near the septic to dry out the area, glad we left it treeless. Willows are a massive pest in Australian waterways
Like digging (and praying) for buried treasure! And when we're talking about finding utilities that's pretty much what it is!
Looking forward to seeing how all of this unfolds 😊
our neighbors had a willow tree and it took two different home owners and about 4 or 5 different tree services to finally get it down to a stump
A cliffhanger, really Scott. Tisk tisk
Weeping Willow are the most beautiful. Most common use for good strong willow wood is for cricket bats
Huge job, Scott, even for a man with your many talents! I hope your next video drop comes out soon--the suspense of what is to come is killing me! 😊 Best wishes to you and your family this Thanksgiving. Hopefully this job was completed well in advance of the holiday and you are able to enjoy the fruits of your labor this week with a well deserved peace of mind.
You got it brother!
You should add a bathroom to your Shop, run the sewer line to the shop no room for the bathroom add a bump out for the new bathroom
"What could go wrong" bites me just about as often as "this should be pretty simple".
Happy thanksgiving Scott!!!
The gravy train LOL
We are leading the same life.
I just did sewer, water, electric, data, and natural gas to my shop last weekend.
Your probe is a sharpened 3/8" rod. If you weld a 3/8" ball on the end of a1/4" rod it will only have friction on the ball. The shaft will not have any friction and will go down much easier
Maybe you could add a drip line for the tree if you’re worried about it not getting enough water?
Likewise on the last words. Thank you for content sir!
Nice attempt on that citrus tree.
You are one courageous young man. If this project gives you heartburn imagine what it will do to us normal folks.
Gotta love it guna leave us in suspense.
Watching any of your videos is a way of reducing my anxiety, you help in more ways than you think! Keep up the good work 👀
Big job, Nice you are getting it done. Well done Scott.
This video has one BIG problem: it's too short!!!
I can feel a part 2 coming!
A large undertaking, you did a very good job communicating your thought processes.
That was about the most subdued “keep up the good work” I have ever heard out of Scott! Have a piece of pumpkin pie and you’ll feel better!😊
I worked with a fellow who showed me a scar on his belly that he got from one of those probes like you built. Just make sure the pipe or handle you attach to the probe rod is very well secured. The handle broke off of the one he was using and punctured into his gut.
jeeezus it sounds like you live next to a freeway
I used to work for a contractor who had a P2 license which meant he could put in septic systems and do sewer hook-ups. The first one I worked on was in the neighborhood where my boss lived. I don’t think he bothered loading his backhoe on the trailer, just drove the machine over with his fingers crossed that a cop wouldn’t happen to see him . About ten years later he did a hook-up on a rental property he had bought about 30 miles from his home. Instead of trailering the machine over he had our laborer from the house to the street with a pick and a shovel. The lateral was 8 or 9 feet down. The town regulations specified 6” diameter pipe even though there were only 2 bathrooms because it was a two family house.
Get colin furze on the job. I hear he likes to dig.
I heard he likes to start at the bottom and work sideways, that’s just a rumor though because it seems that what Colin does is kind of secretive. I also heard that when he’s done the grass is still in place! Lol
My first homemade probe was similar except I threaded the end for an inch and put two nuts on locked together. Then spun it at the bench grinder to make a ball out of the two nuts. This probe proved to be significantly better than ones from the store, because I was able to sharpen the remaining end beyond the two nuts that made the ball. The ball enables the probe to plow a larger channel on its way in and out making it significantly easier to probe, the point made it easier to go in. Most probes available for purchase do not have the point.
Now would be a good time to consider a half bath in the shop!?! :) Yep, more work, but you know you want one!lol! Great video!
I know doing the video is time consuming hard work, but we sure would like to see more of this project. Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving!
No time like the present. Beautiful willow tree, it's a beast!
Wow, I can see why you put if off. Bravo for taking the plunge!
You re going to need some seeds in the spring😄
Well, that's progress .Hopefully, you're not going to have any issues for the next 50 years. Enjoy the holidays. 🍗🍰🥧🍻
Man this left me wanting me 😂
I'm ready for next video 😄
What could go wrong? Famous last words 😊
Scott created the form setter just for this job.😂
Whenever I open a big hole, Mother Nature gleefully fills it with water.
This is the house that CZcams built 😅 good luck old man. Love ya from the UK ❤❤❤
Always excited too see a new video pop up from the Essential Craftsman!!
Ok, I got a little excited by the gate teaser @1:48.
I was told the drop of sewage line is now 1/8 inch per foot because of the new 1 1/2 gallon toilets. The water runs to fast on 1/4 inch drop leaving effluent and causing clogged up lines.
Ended with the equivalent of “just one more run down the ski mountain….” Oh boy. 😮
Now, that’s my kind of video. Informative, educational and leaves me wondering what happens next. How big an Oops. Thanks
Rain get ya always something and man you got a lot of water lines
Give yourself credit for forethought. It was Thanksgiving morning at my mom and dad's, many years ago, when the kitchen sink and the toilets all backed up. Snaked the line and it came back with tree roots. Let's just say it put somewhat of a damper on the holiday festivities that year. Happy Thanksgiving!
Uh oh.... sounds like someone's excavator found that 16 inch sewer line?? Not sure about other states, but in Virginia, the LAW mandates crews have to dig by hand to uncover buried utilities and only dig by hand within 3 feet of a utility line. Hope I'm wrong. Thank you for sharing Scott!!
Best of luck is all one can say from 3,000 miles away.
this video gave me anxiety the whole way..when EC is nervous your know IM nervous!! cant wait for part two...
Run the sewer back to the shop too
Nice.
I do this for a living. I would have uncovered the connection at the main and the house then taken laser shots to make sure you would have enough fall first. Also, I'd rather use clean stone as a base for the pipe and surround the pipe with it. Clean stone won't ever compact. E.C. is the best! Just throwing my 2 cents in. Not trying to offend.
You live your life one quarter mile at a time -Dominic Toretto
Phil would say, if you would have just listened to me.. lol
I suppose the Irma Bombeck observation that "the grass is always greener over the septic tank" didn't apply.
God bless this man
Skip the natural gas and run 3 PHASE power to the shop!
If you can get a slope laser it would help you out big time. Set it to 2% and go, always run pipe uphill.
Looks like you live in a nice neighborhood, not sure you need the security camera feeds?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻left us hanging lol
Go Scott! Good luck.
Hey Scott, been watching a ton of your videos lately; they are so incredibly packed full of knowledge. I know this video in particular has little to do with the subject, but could you mention your thoughts on trade unions in the future? Good or bad I'd love to hear them, I'm an apprentice carpenter out of Local 186 here in Steubenville, OH and all I have to say is it is without a doubt the most interesting, meaningful, and rewarding thing I've ever done in my life. Anyways I would love to hear your thoughts on trade unions, right to work states, etc. It would be incredibly interesting to me and I'm sure many others and I would love to hear your take on them. Good job brother, please keep teaching you're amazing at it.
Edit my comment. I always get nervous with long runs like that with 4 inch. I would make sure to maintain 2% slope minimum, 5% maximum. I would use back to back 22’s instead of 45’s. We maintain 10’ of separation with the water and sewer.
Wow, no separation between water and sewer lines? In my area, 10' minimum. I know this is a home job, but keep in mind shoring for your deep trenches.
1:41 this tree won't die even if you'll cut it right where your hands is .....100%
Thanks for all the amazing videos and epic content!!
THANK YOU . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I can only hope by the time I'm your age I'll have at least half your will power and strength.
Awesome video!
I had the pleasure of working along side a good operator on a backhoe today. My neighbors and I are in the middle of trenching for water and electric.
Thanks for the idea of lines to a gate.
Anything else you considered sending through your trench while it's uncovered?
We're all on the edge of our toilet seats awaiting the next episode!😂
Not a cliffhanger!😮
Don't feel to bad. A development I was working in the 80's hit the gas line almost every time they dug. It was mismarked more than it was correct.
