This was always one of my faves as a kid. I was distressed when the copy that was originally posted was taken down. Thanks for bringing it back, Hugic.
Studio singers.... Somewhere between The Mamas and Papas and the Brady Kids ;-) I loved this when I saw it for the first time as a toddler in '69 or '70... I haven't seen it since then until now (thanks for posting!) I always remembered this as perhaps ther "grooviest" Sesame Street songs. Hearing that bassline and tribal drum break, the harmonies, and seeing that Monterey-Pop-esque artwork... All I can say is... still groovy!
This song from Sesame Street and the number 11 animation by Jim Henson was sung by the group The Fifth Dimension, the group that sang "The Age Of Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In". It is ironic that the Sesame Street crew asked them to sing for those two animated segments, this one in particular, since there were five members in the group. It's only fitting in my honest opinion.
I had quite a few fantasies about this classic Sesame Street skit. One of the fantasies that I had was that a family of five was singing this song. The family members that I visualized was an older father, a younger mother, an older brother, a younger sister and I can't remember who the fifth was, but I do remember that the brother was ten years old and the sister was eight years old in my imagination. Another fantasy that I had was a five person singing group named Family Five, Five Family or Family of Five ( Whichever one it was that I thought of) was singing this song. The Members were three guys and two gals in my mind. The way that the group was singing this song did kinda sounded like what I pictured in my mind when I was young. I never shared my kind of fantasy with anybody up until today thanks to CZcams and my wife for introducing me to it and having my very own I Pad that my wife gave me. She without a doubt is the greatest and so much fun to have in my life. That's exactly why I love her so much.
@ronson232 The singers sound like they're having quite the good time with this, and I can see why. "One, two, three, four, five; one, two, three, four, five..." will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
Harmonies on this song are just beautiful!Remind me of the Carpenters a bit!But I just love the drummimg!Really funky and great fills! Thanks again Hugic!
The artwork in this piece was very beautiful. When my sister and I were small, we'd try to emulate these explosive geometrical patterns with paper and crayons.
They had a "cel" from this on display at the Smithsonian Henson exhibit. Makes you realize the degree of dedication when you see for yourself & consider how much time went into painting just one image. The music is great too, I especially love the long drum rolls on this and the "11 cheer" film. Sweet flashback.
I havent seen this in ages! Most likely another Jim Henson creation! Besides the baker segments also similar to roller coaster 3, animation 4, queen of 6, king of 8, 7 mice, rubberband-mouth 10, & 11 blocks(same numerical figures-most likely Mr. Henson's handwriting, similar animation, etc)
Good description, ronson232 (Mamas & Papas / Brady Kids) I'm of the "pre-Elmo" generation myself -- the old, psychedelic 'Street is best -- so I was surprised this one didn't ring many bells for me! I like it, though. The ones that always hit a deep memory chord for me are the "jazzy spies" segments, or the ones that end with Jim Henson dressed as a chef falling down stairs ("... and that's the song of 8!") That chef series has animated numbers that look almost just like this one ...
Ah, yes - the upbeat, groovy sound that lifts one's spirits. It is clips like this one and 'Do You Know What Backwards Means?' that have music that makes one feeling nothing but happy!
A couple of years ago Brooklyn Academy of Music held a 40-year retrospective of Sesame Street short films. This was the one they chose to open the program. And there at the bottom of the screen was "Jim Henson." I'm sure that came as a surprise to many people watching. It sure would have surprised me if I hadn't already happened to find out beforehand that Henson had produced a bunch of the animated films from the first few years. I don't think many people are aware of his other talents...
This song is in my head since 1980 but in Spanish because i live in latin america. I was a 7 year old boy. I can’t believe that i found it!...Because of this sketch my favorite number is five.
When I entered kindergarten, the teacher wondered why I only painted numbers with outlines going around each number until I reached the end of the paper. That's all I ever painted. Numbers. Gee, I wonder where I got that idea?!
Hm ... now that I've looked at 'em again, the "baker" (not chef) series probably didn't have Jim Henson like I thought ... but I think Henson's son is the kid who says "three peas?!" and "seven nickels" ...
my fav sesame street song. mesmerized me back in '68 or '69 (I was 8 or 9). I wanted to drum so bad. Mom said drums were too loud, so she got me a yucky acoustic guitar instead. lol
+MrsTSDM Was born in Nov 69 and other than the pinball number count series by the pointer sisters, this song right here is the one that hit home for me. Just like Kevc21 said, it was memorizing.
+kevc21 - I used to drum on my desk in elementary school becuase of this song lol. I used everything from pencils to fingers and hands often landing me in shit. :XD
+luckyvet I was also born in November of 1969 and remember all of these clips like my first friends. Love that you drum to it - the connection is real ;)
At the end here, when we see geometric shapes surrounding the numbers,hey-seems they might as well have had at least the 3 in a triangle, the 4 in a square, and the 5 in a pentagon. Peace. :)
I don't remember this but I love it anyway. It looks even older than the Jim Henson # counts, which I know is impossible because they were filmed before the 1st episode aired. However, the numbers look like Jim's hand painting. When did this clip 1st air?
Does anybody have the clip where 5s run into a wall, and come out as 5 objects, then, an M comes along, and breaks apart? It you've got it, go on and post it. Thanx!
@@johnnastrom9400 The 5th Dimension provided vocals for "5". The vocals for "11 Cheer" were provided by Lesley Miller, Eugene Steck, Keith Textor, and Juli Christman.
The 5th Dimension did a good job with this song. The drum track reminds me of 11 cheer.
So have I, I've had the music in my head for years, good to know that it still exists.
This was always one of my faves as a kid. I was distressed when the copy that was originally posted was taken down. Thanks for bringing it back, Hugic.
I've been looking for this "song" for ages! I agree with you that it lifts one's spirits! This is way too cool! THANKS FOR THE POSTING!
This is without doubt the number five answer song to Eleven Cheer. The drums drive this song exactly like they do with Eleven Cheer

Thanks so much for posting this!! I swear it's how I learned syncopation.
Thanks for sharing this! I can remember first hearing it back in the seventies. Very catchy tune and harmonies.
Gotta love the drummer!
one of many masterpiece clips from the sesame street of the 70's
This is going on the playlist. Good to see it back up again.
I have loved this for 30 years and i still do!Drumming is probably pretty complex but great

Awesome drums and a catchy tune. My daughter loves this one.

that drummer kicks ass :)
Thanks for posting!Love this song!
love it its really catchy and it looks like the warner bros singing
it brings back memories
I love this cartoon so much when I was a kid. :) All they needed for the lyrics were just 5 simple numbers. :)
I remember this sketch from when I was around 4 or 5 years old. I haven't seen it since I was five, and now I'm 40!

the new Christie minstrels were a folk group not a rock group, they sang songs that were associated with Stephen foster.
this has pretty colors in it
Sounds like Danny is doing his thing as the percussion on this film!
I rememeber this song clearly as well

Oh wow man! The colors are really trippy. I gotta get help.

Where can I get the lyrics to this song?
The song's dumb but the animation is great.
Just count to five. Duh.
@0:33; pancakes!
This is from episode 267.
and also 810.
...and even earlier than that - try episode 144. :-)
This is not a Raposo song. I am wondering if this is the same writer as 11 Cheer.
It could be the same creator as eleven cheer, the chorus here sounds like them.

1971
It is indeed from the 1970s, I saw it many times then.
