Zarah Leander is without peer! She is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. Her emotion, style and elegance simply cannot be duplicated. She is in a class by herself. Bravo, Zarah! Bravo!
Wow, I just can't get over Zarah Leander's rendition of "Yesterday." The more I listen to it, the more her cover grows on me (much like a lot of music). I discovered Zarah through the documentary "Hitler's Hollywood" with some clips from her movies featured in the film. Yes, it is unfortunate she reached her artistic peak during the era of a hateful, oppressive regime. From what I read, she had no intentions of being a Nazi supporter or sympathizer. Years later, she was even rumored to be a spy for the Soviets. Zarah claimed she saw herself as an entertainer, entertaining many people through hard times. Alas, she just happened to fall on the losing side. Now, I've listened to some of her other music. I wonder if she felt all of that through her singing here. I just hope Zarah made peace with herself towards the end of her life.
BTW dweller I kinda liked this version, of course no one can better Sir Paul. Going to Wentworth soon if there is any WW2 memorabilia that looks of interest I'll let you know.. I suppose nothing from THE OBSERSTURMBANNFUHRER will have made it's way to the Uk though. Sigh!!!! Take care xxxxx
@alexanderkazerne You should check your facts first: In truth she was rumored to be a communist spy and Joseph Goebbels dubbed her an "Enemy of Germany". She didn't socialize with leading party members and never took part in official Nazi party functions, so her classification as a Nazi is dobtful. Her music appealed to many nazis, but that is also true for many others who weren't Nazis (such as Marlene Dietrich for example). Greetings from one who isn't a soldier but has learned to read.
Her singing looks like singing of old Soviet Diva Liudmila Gurchenko. For example song Prayer czcams.com/video/ugwCHU89Usk/video.html and 5 minutes czcams.com/video/3kB72ZA1N9M/video.html

Far greater than the original - this one is tinged with the wistful regret of old age that this song should be sung with, IMO
Krass. Wusste bis heute nicht, dass Zarah Leander mal ein Lied von den Beatles gesungen hat.
Ich auch nicht
This is wonderful with a sadness and melancholy that is spot on. Zarah Leander is here doing a very, very good performance. Nothing less.
Yes, a very touching interpretation of "Yesterday", what a great singer and performer she was.
Beautiful voice at any age. Great version of this song by a truly great talent.

A beautiful and truly gifted Diva. I saw her in 71 and 72, just as lovely as her earlier movies. Thanks for the posting.

Wonderful Video and rendition of Yesteday. I think at her end Zarah regreted her Nazi Culture Heroinism.
Rest in Peace Zarah.

Fine singer. Aloha from Hawaii
If youth only knew!
DIVA!!!
She was ostracised and hated for many years, even in Sweden, for having sung for the wrong side , but then came back to triumph.

ZARAH LEANDER sounds like MARLENE DIETRICH and looks like the 1950's JOAN CRAWFORD with a DIETRICH touch also in looks of the late 50"s DIETRICH.
Aloha Zarah !

@2002ibiza If?! She was never supporting nazi ideas whatsoever.
How do you know? She never talked about Goebbels etc.
