I got the inktense pencils for clothes artwork, hiding permanent stains on clothes, and appliqué. I am in love with the Museum Aquarelle for painting and coloring.
Thank you for informing us on the difference between the normal Albrecht Dürer pencils and the Albrecht Dürer Magnus pencils, since the difference in formula between those wasn't something I was aware of since I am currently using the normal Albrecht Dürer ones and am personally really happy with them, while I never used the Albrecht Dürer Magnus pencils and was initially wondering about the issues you had with them first until you mentioned the difference
You pointed out the exact problem I've come across with pretty much all Derwent products and the main reason I'm not using them... they only work well on certain papers - read expensive papers. Not only are their products overpriced, you also need to spend another fortune on paper. I find that very peculiar about Derwent products. My personal favourite is Caran D'ache Supracolor. Great colors, strong colors, but not as expensive as the Museum ones and they work on any paper I've tried them on.
Very interesting review. I have the normal Albrecht Dürer pencils and I like them but my favourite WC pencils are Mondeluz and Stabilo Aquacolor. The Stabilos are great fun if you want very bright and intense pop colors and they dissolve absolutely effortless.
Hi, thank you for commenting 🌸 I've recently decided to give the AD Magnuses a second chance. Actually, next's video is going to be a sketchbook spread using AD Magnuses, so I haven't completely given up on them 😊 I've been meaning to get the Stabilo ones, I plan to get them at some point 🌺
I have the A Durer set. Relieved to find I'm not the only one disappointed with them. I tried a few Caran d'Arche aquarelle pencils and found them superior.
My experience with these 2 matches yours. I'm going to try the Staedtler kadet on your recommendation as I do mainly plain air sketching.

Thank you for addressing the problem with unnatural greens and browns. I own and use the Staedtler Karat Faber 24 set when I travel, and there are a several colors in this set that I love, but some colors do look artificial. This is a problem with sets from other brands as well. I recently culled my least favorite colors and supplemented with more natural shades by Faber Castell Albrecht Durer colors that I carefully tested and bought from my local art supply store.

Paper makes so much difference for various watercolor pencils especially. Different brand pencils respond differently on different papers. Also I finally realized that the lighter pressure you use to apply the watercolor pencils, the much better they dissolve.
Your review was very insightful. I really liked that you've addressed points like lead-breakage or possible wrist pain, which might not be obvious points about the supplies, but would become more obvious during long-term use of the supplies. I do love the look of the Inktense pencils and I like that they have a lightfastness rating. Might get some in the future.

I have the inktense line and highly recommend them but try to test the actual color before purchase if possible cause the colors can look misleading on the barrel compared to your actual wet result especially with pinks
I have a couple sets of watercolor pencils and the Staedler Karat ones really do dissolve the best and remain vibrant. I also have a Lyra set that is doesn’t dissolve as seamlessly as the Staedler Karats but still remain vibrant and they come with a really good color range even in the smaller sets.
I really would like to try the Inktense line soon!

The normal albrech durer are usually great in cold pressed paper (the cheapest being montval, anything less just doesn't work well for me, personally). But you must select your pallete very carefully, and don't get one stars in open stock. But I haven't tested the magnus set... Personally, I might invest in the most lightfast normal albrech durers I can get and in all the museum aquarelles I can buy as well. The inktense also seems nice, but it's a shame that the staedler lack a reliable lightfastness chart, they are beautifull and relatively cheap where I live
Yeah the regular ADs are OK. Especially on cellulose cold pressed papers. The Magnuses are softer, but also a lot waxier, which I'm not a fan of. My favorites are Staedtler. Nothing beats their quality.
My favorites are the Caran D'Ache. I love them..they blend beautifully.

Love your video and especially watching you make your art. I bought a tiny set of Magnus off Amazon. It was under $20 for the 8 pencils, a nice container, a black Pitt Pen and a brush. Of course, if you want more than 8 pencils, the price jumps. Thankfully the 8 is enough of them for me. I like being able to easily color larger areas. I also have the regular Durer. What Durer gives and the Inktense doesn't is guaranteed subtlety in color. Thus, when I want something more muted, I reach for the Durer. I also like the Durer for detail. And I like that the Durer is the same color as the Polychromos when applied dry so I don't necessarily need to own both pencil lines. The Inktense is mildly awful to me when dry (but rich and vibrant when water is applied). We all have different uses, so I'm thankful we have so many choices. BTW, if the Inktense "lead" falls out, make sure and save it into a palette for use.

I actually like the last pic you did the best. The colors seem better and more realistic. I have the regular AD and also the CD Aquarell and use them both for different projects. Whenever I want realism I reach for AD. You have me wanting to try the magnus now to see if they are different. Thanks very much for your video.
Thank you for your feedback. My personal opinion is that the regular ADs are better than the Magnuses. I have a separate video dedicated to it. However I'm not a huge fan of ADs altogether. In my opinion Staedtler and Inktense are better.
Thank you for a very good video. Out of those, my favorite, by far, is Staedtler Karat. That is not a brand I'm familiar with but I may seek them out. It's really too bad that they are not open stock since inevitably, over time, some colors get used up faster than others.

Thank you for your support 😊 Staedtler pencils are very nice, they have several lines, not just Karat. Back when I used to live in the UK I saw they had their Ergosoft line available there, so that's also an option.

Ich finde die Staedtler Karat Aquarell die meist unterschätzten Buntstifte ! Leider leider sind sie nicht so bekannt und schon gar nicht verbreitet . Ich nutze alle gängigen Marken , das übliche eben... Polychromo's, Luminance, Arrtx , Prismacolor usw. . Mein absoluter Favorit sind die Caran d'Ache Supracolor 💛💚🤎💙
Aber direkt danach kommen die Karat Aquarell !! An denen gibt es aber auch nichts zu bemängeln, nicht Mal das die Miene dünner ist wie bei den Mitstreitern. Die Farben sind kräftig , lassen sich prima mischen , layern und verblenden , auch mit anderen Marken. Sie liegen super in der Hand und bei mir ist nie eine Miene abgebrochen. Ich finde sie um einiges besser als zb. die allgemein so gehypten Polychromo's! Der Abrieb ist bei allen Stiften gleich wo es bei den Polychromo's,je nach Farbe, mortz Unterschiede gibt . Sie lassen sich auch trocken (Qtip,Wischstift) super verblenden und schattieren. Ich könnte mir vorstellen das jeder der mit Buntstiften zeichnet und ein gewisses Niveau hat mit den Staedtler Karat mehr als zufrieden wäre , aber wie gesagt...kaum einer kennt bzw. nutzt sie.

Thank you. I was not aware that the AD Magnus was different from the regular ones in anything other than the size. That is important information to have.
For the rest I by and large agree on your assessment. I am no fan of the Karat though. They work, but I find them overpriced for a mediocre performance.
I don't know if you get the inktense blocks. According to Derwents own LF info, they are a bit better than the pencils, but the colours just as intense.

I have the inktense blocks. Wasn’t sure how to use them but now I’m a little more experienced with water colour pencil techniques I’ll give them another go.

I am curious about your Staedtler Karat, if you're using those pencils for years, may I know if there are changes with the colors over time? I am willing to buy one set for mine if you convince me that it's really worth it.
I personally haven't noticed any changes, however these pencils don't have any lightfastness ratings. Meaning we don't know which colours will fade. I use them in sketchbooks and for drawings that are only for me, and not going to be displayed on a wall. Otherwise great pencils

I just wanted to ask you, I have the Staedtler Ergosoft both regular and watercolor pencils and I love them. Unfortunately they only come in sets of 24. I was thinking to get the Karat, but I realized they are pretty thin,not very good for my old hands. They come in set of 24 and 60 which is not cheap. But someone else had a review and said that even though the Noris are much cheaper (and maybe made for children) they are better than the Karat? I don’t know,did you try those? I have the CD Museum Aquarelle and also the Supracolor II. I wanted to get the FC but I heard they are very similar with the Supracolor II, so I need to research it more. Hello 😊 nice to meet you, yes I'm Hungarian. The Karats are overpriced most of the time. I got mine on a discount (almost 40% off). The Ergosoft and Design Journey pencils are much cheaper and they are similar quality, so I recommend those. In the future, after I used up my Karats, I will be buying Ergosoft and Design Journey instead.

I have a new video up from last week that features woodless watercolour pencils. At the moment I only have one set of woodless wc pencils, so I can't really compare.
The pallet you are using at time 6:58 has a textured surface, did you buy that or make the texture yourself?
It's just a regular plastic palette that one of my family members customized for me with a drill to make it coarse.
