  • Back in the 50's and 60's, resorts were a dime a dozen and were popular among vacationers on the east coast. For those who weren't into the big lavish resorts or wanted something more affordable came to places like this. This 1950's motel with private cottages was the perfect get away for people who just wanted a break from everyday life. Although far from luxurious and what it lacked in amenities, it made up for with peace and quiet while still being close to home. So come along with me as we explore this old property to see what still exists today, in 2019. Enjoy

    I had a lot of those toys growing up lol but for how well the white house is sealed up I thought the inside would be in a little better condition. Looks like a nice place. It reminds me of a house my gram used to rent and take the family to when I was growing up so thanks for bringing back those memories! Another great video as always JP and congrats on 100k!

    You two make a great team. I was amazed how trashed that place had become in such a short period. I can almost smell the mold and mustiness on the video. Once again, great work guys, risking life and limb and as always a great t-shirt by Mike.

    For a motel who’s been abandoned in the mid 90s it’s sure has decayed a lot in such a short time.

  • @hoosierladyus48
    @hoosierladyus48 Před 4 lety +1

    I was born in the early 50's and we had an old wringer washer (no dryer) and we hung our clothes outside. Any toys you find from that era are worth money. I sure remember listening to the 8 tracks. It's such a shame that so many of the homes from my birth year and older are either decaying or no longer standing. It just breaks my heart to see this. Thank you so much for sharing!

    I think your timing for when it closed is spot on. My son's were born in 93 and 96 and had some of those toys. Specifically the Winnie the Pooh. He was part of a set that had a boat that all the characters would fit into for storage.

    I grew up during the 60s in New England, there were a lot of these motel/cabins around then. This place looks like it was pretty nice with the owners house and the pool. Plexiglas and plywood looks like they tried to preserve it for awhile but the trees had other plans. Good video, cool place. Thanks, JP

      @Shellross65 Před 4 lety +1

      That's what I thought too. Maybe that was where the "innkeeper" lived? The cabins may have turned into small homes rented out to individuals in an attempt to keep the place going and that particular home was where the people lived that ran the place and did all the maintenance, etc. My mind can come up with all kinds of possibilities. HA

    Love the location. Good grief that basement!!!!! So much stuff. Some one went to a lot of trouble putting up plexiglass...I love the rock foundation under that place. I wonder how they kept water in that pond. The stone walls wouldn't hold the water. I would live out there in a heartbeat. Maybe an elderly person stayed in that piled up room - may of been a relative of the owners. Very interesting video. Remnants of the good old days.

    Those rafter boards are 2x8's. My house has them built 1940.
    I am redoing mine and would love to get hold of that place. Those are perfectly preserved. Worth some money.
    If I was younger, I would strip old places to sell and reuse, better than letting it rot.
    People who have no money like myself, it is a blessing to find such things.
    If those were in Missouri, I would have them.
    All those cinder blocks laying around. I could use for my new foundation. Amazing how much gets wasted. Shame people dont recycle this stuff.
    I would definitely be recycling alot of that stuff.
    As far as I am concerned, it is all abandoned even if it is locked. Unlivable. No one cares anymore. Owner probably old or dead.

    Cool find. I love when nature reclaims what man has left behind, especially in the case of the pulley with the tree grown around it. The pool area too, you know the pine trees on the side were planted with intent and nowntheyve taken over with barely a trace of the concrete pool surround covered by moss and leaves. What a wonderful place this must have been! I would definitely have stayed there. From the way they had boarded up the main Hotel and the put plexiglass on the windows, as well as the repaired well covering and the lock box, it looks like they might be trying to restore it. That would have been a magnificent sunroom to have your meals in! I imagine the reason that they put plywood on those buildings is to discourage people from going inside and possibly injuring themselves more than anything else.

    I know you posted this six months ago, it almost seemed to me that it was abandoned because a flood came though. Just a thought! Thanks for doing theses videos.

    Hi Jay, Be careful when getting peeling paint off because it usually has lead in it which you don't want to inhale. A very cool find though and with still quite a lot of belongings left behind. That pool was awesome and I agree in that the blue colour was nice and would have looked really pretty when clean. Thank you for sharing. x

    I'm a relatively new follower, so coming across these PA videos makes me giddy. Grew up in PA and so I vaguely know of where you are going.

    Great video as always. And educational! I learned that if I ever have a cabin that is squished to smithereens by a ginormous honking tree falling on it, that I must put up plywood and yellow crime tape, in case someone might try to live there or run a business out of it or something. Good grief! Loved the final still pic with the edge of the pool in color and the rest b/w. Your asides crack me up. Tokyo. LOL.
