Guys, usually we don't like featuring longer ads, but this one gives you a chance to win a PS4. Good luck!
Also, keep calm and SPQR: bit.ly/2QnygUG
It’s OK I understand 👍
It's true that the ad was a bit annoying with over 1 min. But anyway it's OK, I just skipped to the part where your content started. I was not forced to watch it. Its cool guys. I know the importance of channel management and revenue. I have managed a channel very successfully and understand the revenue model. Cheers!
Any game studios contact you guys yet? You guys would make amazing cut scenes in historical games I bet.
its fine as long as these ads pays the bills in addition to the patreon. you can never have to much money to develop and produce great content. am willing to watch ads so long as the content remain top notch
Wow! 1.35minute ad of a mobile game. I was disgusted. Do you know these games prey on young people who spend their money on virtual nothings?
Until 1453? Damn, finally someone will cover the Eastern Roman/Byzantine armies.
It may take forever. So, it is quite possible we just make pauses and cover other armies too along the way.
It will take years
Just Greek armies took many months
Kings and Generals thanks and please make also about the evolution of ottoman and british armies.
I ll be grateful if you dont forget post roman britain..
My history classes in the US literally never mentioned the eastern Roman Empire.
3:36 Is it a cow? Is it a sheep? NO! It’s a boar vessel, 600-500 BC, Etruscan, ceramic!
Greetings SPQRposter!
Now you're blessed by the gods to spoil some girls at war.
Hey this series is covering Roman armies, neat.
*hears that they are planning on covering all the way to 1453*
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
Thanks :-)
You guys are one of my favorite channels on youtube period! I think I should really get behind you on Patreon!
Video begins at 1:34
Koopinator thx
Koopinator I can watch even 10 mins ads for K&G no problem
not all heroes wear capes
@@TexasViking_INFP-t_5w4 And I am just trying to watch a video.
No it actually begins at 0:00
3:35 the mighty Boar Vessel, 600-500 BC, Etrusc Ceramic
Hahaha love it
Truly we are blessed
I didn't notice this, lol~!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It's the mighty IAR-80!
I'm really glad how far your channel has come.
"the plan is to cover everything until 1453."
Mars smiles upon us this day!
Empire that lasted a millennia.
Superb narration and presentation.
Indeed one of the greatest CZcams channel.
Thank you :-)

Until 1453? That's why I love you guys!
Marshal Rock 1453 the worse year for the civilized world
MyGdoggy yeah, 😥 well, it is sad the Fall of Constantinople, however, we must always think of the changes that brought to Western Civilization.
That is the initial plan. We'll see. :-)
"Marshal Rock 1453 the worse year for the civilized world"
.........
Uh tell that to the crusaders sacking Constantinople....
@Evren Saygın You mean, like the Armenian Genocide?
i seen what you did there 3:35
+1 for the music selection
:-)
3:35 I would totally steal that *Boar Vessel 600-500 BC Estruscan Ceramic*
"everything until1453" this is gonna be a great series :)
Romulus and the Swift Squadron would be a good team name.
Oh my god, one of the soldiers used Sting from the Lord of the rings lol
We don't know the exact sword they used, so... :-)
Actually, the Kingdom of Gondor in Lord of the Rings is based on the late Roman Empire, and the battle on Minas Tirith is inspired by the battle of the Catalaunian plains.
There's definitely a lot of Roman inspiration to Gondor's storyline. Although, I would argue that the Battle of Minas Tirith specifically also draws a lot of inspiration from the 1683 Siege of Vienna (ancient city under siege by "evil enemy hordes" saved by a massive cavalry charge).
@@Wolfeson28 Well, it's what the author himself stated, so it's "word of God". That said, in addition to a WW1 veteran, Tolkien was a total History Buff. Each army on the Middle Earth is clearly based on a real army, and the inspiration of the Late Roman Empire for Gondor is pretty obvious.
Most educating video as always! Do you ever plan to cover the Persian armies? Admittedly not always the most formidable force in history but the Parthians and Sassanids might be worth a video.
Yep, we are planning to cover more!
If part 2 is about Marcus Furius Cammilus, than part 3 or 4 should coincide with the coverage of Pyrrhus of Epirus or at least show that the same week.
i hope they talk about the battle of caudine forks
I really appreciate all the work and effort you guys put into your videos,
just goes to show how much passion for history everyone has that works on this channel.
Keep up the good work and i hope i'll see you soon with a video on the siege of vienna(1683)
wow, this is an ambitious series, looking forward to it all! even though i've gained a decent amount of knowledge about certain prominent eras there are still plenty of gaps in my knowledge and it'll be great to learn more about the more obscure periods and have a more complete picture of how the armies transformed over time
This channel deserves way more followers. The best one CZcams has to offer in my opinion!
SonofLiberty I subscribed just now
I have crippling depression hope to god it helps your depression
@@Beachplease13 That phrase is a meme so he may not be that depressed lol
I strongly support you! Channel has so many content with so many detailed subjects from both famous and not so much known histories. The divercity is amazing!
Wish they get more subs and followers so they can cut out chilling these mobile games. mobile games fucking suck. its all pay to win and they should be fucking embarrassed.
Love this series. Hopefully you guys go into detail on the Marian reforms. I've heard a lot of conflicting information about his influence on Roman military tradition, some arguing he completely revolutionized it, others saying he simply formalized changes that had been taking place for decades.
I watched all your videos about the development of the Roman Army, and I'm so impressed with the work and dedication! I would like to ask if you could make a chronological playlist with all videos.
Great epidode, very interesting how the social chenges from Clans to a class society changed the military organisation and the nature of war as well. Can't wait for the next ones... This might become one of my faves series...
Glad to hear that. :-)
Please keep this up! I've always wanted to see a series like this!
I absolutely can NOT WAIT till you guys do medieval byzintine units . The. Kataphractoi look soooo dope . I can't even count how many times i have searched online for information about the eastern roman army in detail to no avail . Great work guys. go ahead and skip ahead if you want ;)
It will come!
Nice video. I always wanted to know more about Early Roman times. And this video helped fill in some of the bits n piece's. Nice job to whoever made this video a reality.
Finally..I've found a channel that it isn't superficial. Nice work and keep it up!!
I’m liking the direction of this series
Good :-)
Very good topic to cover from the start to the end of the evolution of the Roman army. Look forward to seeing the next episodes. Cheers!
Thank you for watching :)
a video i have been waiting for a very longggg time!!!! thanks lads..
I love how you timed "familiar" with the start of the Rome 2 theme.
excellent, concise information. I was unaware of most of it. thanks
Thanks , looking forward to the other videos in this series.
Thanks for watching :-)
Awesome fellas, never can pass up anything abaout Rome and when Kings and Generals does it, it makes it that much better!!!
Can't wait for the next Roman army video!
I can't wait for the next video in this series!
Thanking you for getting up to 1453. Can't wait for the Eastern Roman army documentaries !
On the way!
Good Vid! Anyway of posting a Vid on how Military Geography affects operations, or how battles are "shaped"? Thanx!
Cant wait for the rest of the serie!
Kings and Generals I really do like your videos and I appreciate your work. When I watch your videos I never realize how the times passes.
Thank you for watching :)
Love the new series!
Good :-)
Love this channel and loving the series
Awesome for planning to cover the Byzantine Army too! Such an underappreciated civilization in pop culture.
This video came out 5 years ago and all I can say is this is the greatest History channel on CZcams
Oooooh I've been waiting for a series like this
I am proud of being one of your early subscribers.
Content keeps getting more quality and consistency
Thank you very much!
GREAT ! I can't wait for the next episode !
Thanks!
Amazing video as always. Thanks!!
It's a pity that a glorious time like the Roman Kings Era is so underrated by the people.
Also, most of what we "know" about the Roman kings is legend. Including the individual kings themselves.
@@varana legend like Troy or Mykenai?
Do you want to insinuate that Paris shooting Achilles in the heel was a historical event? ;)
Rome existed, just like Troy or Mykenai. But that it had exactly seven kings, their names, what they did (like all the stuff that Numa Pompilius was supposed to have started) - yep, that's basically legend. Maybe there's some truth in it somewhere, maybe there was some king called Numa Pompilius at some time (although he certainly didn't do all that), but currently, we can't say what parts _may_ be based on actual events.
Historia Aeterna well as the video said the romans didn’t even record their own histories until 3rd century BC.
@Historia Aeterna It's because of Western Propaganda, which don't like monarchies. Note how Rome spilled far more blood in the Gladiatorial arenas for the sake of crude entertainment and yet are still admired with many buildings in the US modeled after Roman architecture, while the Aztecs whom spilled far less blood in sacrifices are considered horrific savages. It's the lens of Western Propaganda that makes Rome worth admiring because they had a Senate and the Roman Kings despised and ignored because the Senate overthrew them.
Thank you for making my week with this excellent video!
Thank you for watching :)
Your best video yet not in terms of graphics but in information
I'm going to LOVE this! Got my bell switched on!
Finally! A documentary on very early Roma. I feel the tribal and clan phase of the peninsula is rarely ever discussed. Schools teach us about the pinnacle of Rome yet they forget to show us greatness has humble beginnings. Good on this channel for starting history from the beginning. I wish I could find a video about the way war was fought and important battles that happened before Rome was what it was. It's hard to find more then a foot note about the Samnites and other various cultures/peoples that also inhabited Italy.
Is this the best channel ever? It is a few light years ahead of via sat and friends... Good job!
Good video as always. Good idea to cover everything to 1453 just to drive home the point of how tenacious the Roman state really was.
Yeah, that point should be made. People often compress the 2000 years of history into the early imperial period.
Great video as always
I love this video so much like Great Job guys. More videos like this please.
More on the way!
Can't wait to hear about the Samnites and the Manipular formation.
Can’t wait for the next one
This was so well made and educational! Want to learn more!
Would you do early Greek and early Persian army and equipment! Thanks
Pegeman 1 they already did a video series on the Greek armies from Mycenaean times to the Hellenistic period. There is also a second series on the Hellenistic Macedonian army.
Pierre S. Ok I remember now. Thanks I don’t know much about the Persian army tactics and equipment. I hope they cover that. :)
This video came at the right time and I'm looking forward to see the next episodes of this series. Good luck to everyone that will try to get their hands on that PS4 PRO.
The merchandise is really nice but I can't afford to get one right now.
Another interesting episode I hope you upload Han Dynasty or any Imperial China 👌
keep up the great work!! Excellent vid
We will :-)
I wonder if the early cavalry wasn't something similar to deferred service, whereby the very wealthiest essentially paid to stay out of the fight but still technically contributed to the war effort, in order to keep themselves safe without excessively harming morale.
The shield was the aspis not the hoplon. Common mistake, hoplon was any piece of equipment used by a hoplite.
Great job guys!!!You are the BEST!!Greetings from Greece!!!
It’s great that you’re covering all the way until 1453! Most people discard the Byzantines all too easily citing that they’re too different from the “Romans” to be considered as such all the while ignoring the fact that Romans of the late Empire would’ve been unrecognizable to the early Romans and even indeed the Republic of Scipio Africanus.
Ah and so we begin. Let's agree to disagree ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've read some books that horsemen in early Rome we're just mounted infantry that can dismount and reinforce a battle line whenever needed.
Marc Loui Rivero those type of troops were called Dragoons in later era
They used horse for speed and mobility but dismount when fighting
Even if this series takes years, I’m down for the ride.
thank you for this review. An important time in military history.
Thanks for watching!
Please do one more part to cover the armies of the other eras
Graphics in the videos are improving. Power level over 9000.
I love early Rome, thank you for making this. There is so little on it in English.
ive never heard Devin sound so dead as when hes reading from the script of this mobile game advert
Awesome topic!
Do more of these armies and tactics videos the other ones on wars and battles get really descriptive and difficult to listen to. You could probably squeeze them in tactics videos I think.
2:28 Small mistake I think : Romulus shot Remus with a bow, and did not engage him into a melee.
6:29 It seems there are -orcs- gauls near that third soldier...
Please Make a series on Eastern Armies! Neo-Assyrian army, Pontic warfare, Armenians, Sassanid heavy cavalry etc etc
I'm subscribed to several history channels like Historia Civilis, Epic History TV, The Great War, and Extra History. What impresses me the most about Kings and Generals are the constant releases and the colorful and professional presentation. Your videos LOOK good, the narration appropriately reflects the historical event, and most importantly, you present a fair account of all sides. I'm proud to be a supporter of your channel and I am excited to see where Kings and Generals will go in the future.
Question: Now that you have finished your series on the Diadochi, do you guys plan on releasing a single video combining all of the episodes? Do you have similar plans for other completed series like the Vikings and Justinian?
Thank you for the kind words. It is hard work and sleepless nights :)
Yes, we will have full Diadochi video and perhaps add a few missed points there to make it more complete. As for Vikings, it is an incomplete series, we kinda abandoned it due to lack of interest. Justinian is too short and map styles are different to be able to combine them in one video.
Instead, we will start a brand new series in a few weeks that will replace Diadochi in the schedule.
Hopefully Devin is feeling better by now. That sounds like a rough amount of congestion he had going in this one. School is in session again so it's time for everyone to get sick from the institutional illness factories again. Thanks for pushing through Mr Impossible. Get well ;)
Hope you would cover how the roman gladius during the imperial era was adopted by the hispanic-iberian warriors, the scutari.
And please cover when rome adopted the lorica hamata/segmentata armors.
John Keegan, one of the most insightful military historian of our age, in the "History of Warfare", explains how the characteristics of war is strictly dependent by the characteristics of societies fighting it. This is blatant in the early Roman case. The names of the different soldiers, their deployment, their equipment etc. are a mirror image of the early roman society. And, I would add, the early Roman society was very much shaped by the requirements of war.
However, you guys do a wonderful job! You were definitely part of the inspiration that took me to start my own channel.
Invicta has a similar video on early roman warfare, but did not pursue the series that it was suppose to be a part of.
Love ur vids, keep em up yeee
Before the change in manipula the oplites were divided in hastates, principes and triari, but since III century b.C.
Ah Rome, the birthplace of my family which began in 40AD and proud to have Roman blood in my veins. I say these words to my ancestors, Roma Invicta!.
I'm jealous not gonna lie Roman history is worth being proud of.
Byzantine Soldier my family is the same as yours except from Constantinople, Roma Invicta!
Guys please do the Marian Reforms! I need to see that beautiful Lorica Segmentata art!
We will!
Well done!
AVE! We who watch Kings & Generals salute you!
The Latin word GENTES for clan gave us the English word gentry.
As a former Latin student, this video reminded me of that little bit of linguistic history.
Keep up the great work!
And the Spanish word for people (gente) too

Love this channel
Thanks :-)
You should make videos about kings and legandary peoples tombs that has been hidden/forgotten please :P
The Testudo formation is genius and worked for many many years
Nice nice but it would also be interesting to know about armies of different cultures instead of Greco-Roman armies which have been told about thousands of times (in other channels as well).
please, make a video about the great victories of Roman cavalry :- ))))
