TimeLapse 27-07 - Cold Front Joy

  • Cold front passage, always combined with some mean convection that gets triggered from the temperature switch, as it was quite warm earlier.
    At 00:48 you can see a small 'field' of Mammatus moving by. There's even some precipation visible that doesn't seem to hit the ground. Then there isn't much to say than just watch it till the end. I saw the Moon pop by when I wanted to actually close the timelapse but figured, ah it's in the field of view and giving a funny effect.

    From about 1:00 to 2:05 you're seeing the initial shortwave energy pass by. From 2:05 to 2:40 you are seeing some wind shear. The upper level low's rotation had those clouds moving left-right while the mid and low-level winds are blowing clouds at that level toward the camera. Actual cold front passage occurs at 2:40. Really really neat video!!

    This is actually incredible, I love how there are several waves of storms, and then clearly a wind shift with the final frontal passage! Excellent job, looks like an interesting day!
