This video covers; removing the bag to take a shower, the types of nozzles, and the cap the bag comes with, which as I discovered have multiple uses. Also, I cover a bit on hygiene which is incredibly important. The tips of all the parts can collect bacteria which could lead to other ugly stuff like an infection. You want to avoid that as best you can. It'll only add insult to injury.
Cheers, and wishing you great health. Tony

That’s such a great tip to use the cap as a catheter plug. I’ve learned so much from your videos. I’ve had a difficult time finding the supplies I need- this helps tremendously. They put the catheter in and sent me home without any kind of education or just basic information of where to find what I need to take care of a catheter at home. Thank you for making these videos.

@misslady1629 - I'm so glad the videos helped. It's so sad to continue to read responses that no practical information or education is provided. It just gets put in and you get sent home. It is literally the definition of adding insult to injury.
I decided to do something about it and make a pamphlet that doctors can give patients that will lead you to my channel. Peer support is so needed and I hope this will provide it.
Let me know if I can mail you some and you can give it to your doctor so others have the info.
      My email is tony.alcindor@maletenance.com

Oh that's wonderful about the pamphlets. I'll definitely email you. Also my leg bags have a twist valve and I was worried about drips on my clothes, but I ordered some silicone finger protectors. They fit perfectly over the twist valve to prevent any drips. You've inspired me to think outside of the box for practical solutions.

Right! I never knew until I tried and the medical team didn't tell me anything. All learn as you go, which is kinda crazy.

Wish I had read this stuff before the catheter. Did not even get the cap when presented with my stuff. Hospital discharched me with a 3 port catheter saying the 3rd port had a "one-way" valve. First night I woke up in a pool of piss!

I know its after the fact but I'm glad you found me. I guess better late than never. I hope this message finds you doing much better and possibly without a catheter. They are a necessary evil but a bit of a medieval torture device and they never ever seem to come with any practical information on how to navigate life with it. I've heard this same sentiment hundreds of times from people around the world. I just don't get why something that happens to so many people is not given simple instructions. I'm working to change that because it will improve the quality of life for those who have to use a catheter , be it for a day or months.
Cheers and wishing you well. Tony

Your videos are very informative & not sugar coated straight to the point of the problem Thank You. I have come to the point in life where I need to use a external catheter pretty much of the time, I was hoping you could suggest the easier to put on external catheters on the market as the one Iam currently using is a bit of a struggle to put on & often It is uncomfortable and pinches me after a while. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated, again thanks for your videos Take care.

@johnthompson4848 Thanks for the note and I'm glad the videos helped. I unfortunately don't know much about intermittent/external catheters as I had an indwelling catheter. Either way, they are kinda miserable. Happy to answer any other questions you may have though. Cheers Tony

The whole urinary catheter system is archaic and nothing has really changed since its invention.
It's painfully obvious that these things were not designed from the users point of view and thats the reason I redesigned it and got a patent for a more user friendly catheter. As a user I could plainly see how to improve it and so I did something about it.
I hope it'll be on the market in the near future as it will help so many lead a somewhat normal.....if you can call having a giant straw in the your privates normal...life and continue to do activities of daily living with less pain.
      Cheers Tony

do i need to rinse the bag after i drain it ? Should i rinse it with hot water or something?

    • @maletenance
      @maletenance  Před rokem +1

I never rinsed it and maybe I should have. I just used it for a week and got rid of it. I'm sure this does not help with landfill but I was dealing with so much, as you know, that now rinsing a bag was beyond my mental capacity. I will probably if there's next time, but I'm praying there won't be. I was extra careful not to let the nozzle/tube tip touch anything as it's so easy to get a UTI. Have you had one of those yet.....not fun!!!!

Vinegar and water. Rinse the inside of bag and tube after clean the tips with alcholol or hydrogen peroxide before attaching lines back together
