Absolutely beautiful. Nothing but love. Thanks 🙏. Giving teachers in the past a voice and still teaching!!!.
So happy to see O'Sensei Richard Kim on this list. I train in his founded karate organization learning Shorinji-Ryu and Kobudo.
Good video maybe any other master....thank you for information
Brilliant video well done 👍🏻
Nice
Thank you for video...greeting from Indonesia.
Thanks for the video! But If you wanted honor masters of the past, you should have included Uechi Kanbun too.
I Want To THANK You for this AWESOME VIDEO. ESPECIALLY FOR MASTER NUMBER 12 GM TERUYUKI OKAZAKI BEING He was the teacher of master Leslie Safar 9th Dan,who was the teacher of Jim Philips Godan 5th Dan, Who was my teacher in the earlier 70s. You video has brought such greats memories back to me thank you . I actually swelled with such honor and pride to have had the great privileges to be taught by such GREAT MASTERS of Shotokon. Again Thank you so much for the wonderful memories . I had the privilege of being allowed to see GM TERUYUKI Okazaki's trying room at his home were he trained privately what a sight the room was all mirrors it was incredible.I just thought I would add this as something that I am not sure if it was common knowledge.
Very good!
I love Karatê!
There are many Karate Masters of the modern era that you could include in future episodes : Mikio Yahara, Yoshiharu Osaka, Tatsuya Naka, Masao Kawasoe, Masahiko Tanaka etc etc. These masters are from the Shotokan style. This is the style that I have been training in since 1980.
I'm glad you woke up and made a video about the real old masters that includes Yamaguchi and Miyagi!!!
I met Yamaguchi’s son(Goshi Yamaguchi) back in 2016(in Japan where I graded for my blackbelt) and 2017(in Canada for the world champs)
Thank you, for same very Special ...
formidable.
Great fighters good 👍

Wirklich empfehlenswertes und authentisches Video. Tolle Arbeit!!!
Mit Aikido und dem was wir hier sehen (Karate=leere Hand 🤚)..
Fantastische Dokumentation!!!
i lerned some techniques from the best in the world thanks
Glad master yamaguchi the cat is on this list .seemed like he’s one of the masters that didn’t get the recognition like the other masters
I had most of my training in Tang Soo do but I always admired the Japanese forms of karate and the Okinawa forms of karate being that Tang Soo do originate it from Japan I also had a couple of instructors who are black belts in wae do Kai who made the transition 2 Korean karate and they were very good at takedowns that's where I learned most of my takedowns thank you for this great video people always argue about the best karate Masters but I just enjoyed the video.
The founder of Tang Soo Do was a student of Shotokan.
Oss!
Very important for us, oss!
you know, when looking at the footage of the oldest masters (filmed) form movements do appear to have been done differently (in a more relaxed fashion). I think I prefer the movement in these demos by students of the 19th century teachers.
The text is often changed before I can read it. I could stop the video to finish reading, but that makes the video more of a task than it should be and breaks the video into a slideshow of sorts. The contrast of the text against the background was also a problem.
Nice add for Suzuki sensei but he was a pupil of Hironori Ōtsuka who created Wado Ryu.
My honorable for this video, osh
Salute to the great Heros,,,,
In Venezuela Maracaibo,Sensei Hiramatsu..always remember.
Matsubayashi's Shoshin Nagamine should be on the list. He was one of the first to teach American GI's after WWII. He believed that karate was open to all people and was a dedicated historian of Okinawan martial arts. Kyan and Motobu were 2 of his teachers.
Along with Shimabuku Sensei, the real godfather of MMA before Bruce Lee.
ماشاء الله
Big osu all the best sensei
Osensei Kim was my Hanshi for many years. Nice to see the "classical man" within those numbered.
Ossu
Rei
Also in the list next to Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki should be mentioned Shihan Naoki Ishikawa (8e Dan)
Emocionante, historia linda desta arte que poderia ser resgatada tão degradada pelo comercio esportivo de hoje em dia! oss

Good story for me
Kenwa Mabuni ???
The writing does not stay long enough to read. Also you have to choose between read or watch.
There should be white subtitles on a black background between visual shots so we can read and watch what is very interesting material.
Will not watch ever again in current format.
Great pitty.
Regards John:
Com as outras músicas certamente o vídeo fica melhor
How about Masutatsu Oyama my grandmaster in Karate ?
I missed soke Teruo Hayashi. He had a 9 dan Shito-Ryu and 10 dan Kobudo master.
Indeed. I´m a student of Hayashi-ha Shito-Ryu and think of soke as one of the most prolific karatekas and kobudokas ever born. Egami from Shotokai should be there too... and so many others. Like Yoshinao Nanbu, recentely deceased.
Chuck Norris!!!
You must answer my question....
Why mas oyama is not in the list?
No Master Ueichi I see?
What about Eiichi Miyazato Founder of the Jundokan. You have put Anichi Miyagi in there and he was junior to Miyazato. In fact when the garden dojo of Chojun Miyagi closed following the latter's passing, training relocated to Miyazato's dojo the Jundokan, where Annichi Miyagi's continued his training along with Miyazato who was his Sempai. Anichi Miyagi never had his own dojo. It was here that Higaonna Morio met Anichi Miyagi, and looked to him as his Sempai and uses him as his lineage to Chojun Miyagi.
I am always curious as to why the Taekwondo world never has videos showcasing the top 10 masters or top 20 masters of Taekwondo or what anyone accomplished or any footage of the old masters. There is also no fighting legends of Taekwondo. There is such an emphasis on the Olympic sport and some poomsae championships that there is no legendary fighters of Taekwondo often known. Then others split off into other organizations they made and left the KTA and Kukkiwon. There are hardly any Taekwondo videos showcasing "bunkai" of the Taekwondo poomsae (kata) as well which is sad. I always enjoy these old Karate master videos though.
MaharlikaAWA . Taekwondo is a recent creation based on Shotokan ryu. It was teached to korean soldiers by japanese army instructors during both korea war and vietnam war. Basically, the techniques are the same, but for commercial purpose, heads of Taekwondo decided to focuse on acrobatic kicks. There is no old masters's footage available because there were no master before japaneses taugh karate to them. The renowned Taekwondo masters we know learned their art during 60's and after.
I trained with Mikami Sensei in the 70s when I was in college in New Orleans. Back in the day when no one wore pads. What a great man!
I've watched both videos and there is a lot of Martial history there, but not one Korean Martial Artist in this history. I hold a 5th Dan in Tae Kwon Do and Hop Ki Do from Grand Master Ho Yung (Tiger) Chung. Bio: Ho Yung “Tiger” Chung immigrated to the United States in 1971. As a soldier in the Korean Army, Tiger Chung had the privilege of teaching young American soldiers Tae Kwon Do, Tiger Chung was invited to the United States as a guest and never looked back. Tiger Chung uprooted his family and moved to the land of the people to whom he grew to love and became a proud U.S. citizen.
Tiger Chung’s Martial Arts have its roots locally. Opening his first school in Detroit in the early 1970s, Tiger Chung has taught thousands of students - some of whom are still practicing today and have also opened their own schools. A father of three, Tiger Chung has taught his three sons Tae Kwon Do, the oldest becoming a Master in his own right. Once thought of as another form of Karate, Tae Kwon Do has become popular as ever with the growing Mixed Martial Arts audience. But, there’s more to Tae Kwon Do than “karate”. Today’s Tae Kwon Do has evolved - not only in Tae Kwon Do self-defense, but it’s also discipline. Patience. Loyalty. Wellness. Together, it’s about becoming a better, more well-rounded person. Tiger Chung’s resume is extensive: as a 10th Degree Black Belt, he has achieved Grand Master status and is renowned around the world; is a former National (Korea) Tae Kwon Do Champion, world record holder (1981) for breaking 17 two-inch cement blocks, studied under Choi Yong-Sool, the founder of Hap Ki Do;
Show de bola
Where is Ochi Sensei?!? One of the most famous Shotokan Karateka from JKA!
Ini juga sama
Keliatan kaki eq. Dua banyak tangan
Funakoshi and Mabuni? Where are they?
So the 20 best karate masters in history is actually the top 40 karate masters in history? Not sure I follow. "Top 20 best karate masters in history" is a little presumptuous, perhaps should have called the video legendary masters or something a little less ambitious.
Faltou os mestres : tetsuhiro hokama e metin kayar 👍
Where is Kanbun Uechi in this list?
Seikoh toyama sensei ha doko desu ka???
Why Sensei Shirai is not on the list?
....Keinosuke Enoeda ..8thDan....Died aged 68....”For he knoweth our frame, he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass, as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.......But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear [ reverential ] him, and his righteousness unto children’s children. Psalm 103 :14-17..KJV.........🏴

Where is Kenwa Mabuni?
ISKF was founded in 1977.
Why two classifications of the best karate masters in history, both from the 20th to the 1st?
Your text is running fast, I can't read it well
Where are sensei Egami and Harada (shotokai)
Ironic the the greatest martial Master in the known free world is not listed... but neither is he a "karate" man per se...
Teruo Hayashi ?
Подсечьки сильно на земле тяжело исправить положение
Дедушка пай хиво.
Mas Oyama ?
Sensei Teruo Kono: "born in 1934 and died on April". FFS, read before you push the button!
too fast, no way you can read the text description of each master, too much on video so not informative
You can pause the video until you read it.
What about sen sei Steven seagull he’s number 1 Bullshito master!
Where are the great martial artists of America including Grand Master Moses Powell, Don Nagle, George Cofield, Thomas LaPuppet Carroll, Ronald Duncan, Malachi Lee, Walter "Toby" Cooling and many more who contributed to the martial arts for many years and who's students are now among the best in the world? I find this presentation to be very biased and exclusionary of the best martial artists (Karate Masters In History). Perhaps they will be waiting for Part 3???
ATATÜRK ❤️
Nemogu da vjerujem da sensei Masutaso Ojama nije mogao da bude ni među 20najboljih, mislim da je velika greška u pitanju.
Kiyotada sensei mana ?
And Mas Oyama???????
Very good point !!
Watch the part 1 video, bro. It's right in the description of this video.
