The scene between Louis and Lestat in this version, is so poignant and even more heart wrenching. The dialogue mirrors the pain a parent would feel when losing their child. Which was the whole point of Anne Rice writing the book to begin with. A way to process her grief after losing her daughter. That scene alone did Anne justice.

That shot of Lestat influencing the audience is supposed to show that he was only capable of saving Louis because he put his absolutely everything into it, fueled by love and despair. The blood leaking out his ear etc. He barely made it too, they were about to say "death". He probably tried saving Claudia too but it just wasn't enough.

Lestat didn't let Claudia die, he just wasn't strong enough to save them both. Armand WAS responsible for her death bc he wanted her out of the way so that he could have Louis... So in the book he didn't really want him dead. I sobbed at L&L's reunion! I loved Louis' redecoration of his penthouse and it was so good to see him wearing colour again. Armand's reluctance to save Claudia came from, as Assad Zaman said it, him not giving a fuck about her. In contrast to Lestat, Claudia means nothing to Armand in regards to his relationship with Louis , unlike Lestat, she is not a daughter or something to tie them together. To Armand, Claudia is just an obstacle to being with Louis, so he kills her. And yes, he is pretty crazy, this season was just the reveal, but he's BEEN crazy, and hopefully we'll get more of that in next season. @@ThandoNdlovu-zr3ld I think Armand has this very fucked vision of what love is; it dates back to his maker Marius, who pimped him out as a kid, but still Armand saw him as a God, giving him endless submission. I think this idea of love=submission really stuck with him - I served him with all my heart. So when he found "love" again, it was a pretty weird situation. I won't say anything about his relationship with Lestat because of book spoilers, but let's just say that it ended quite similar to his relationship with Louis. Once Armand fell in love with him, completely surrendered himself to Louis, thus their Sub/Dom dynamic, Armand hoped Louis would do the same, because love must mean submission, obsession even, but he realised he wasn't Louis' first priority, he couldn't call him his companion, he still loved Claudia, he didn't trust his love would last. So if he couldn't have him, completely, then he had to choose between the man who doesn't want him, or the coven that has surrendered to him for 200 years.

      @JillWouters Před měsícem +6

@@rey-tm8qe I do think however, for as much as I remember the books (long time ago) that this weird sense of revering Marius as a god was pounded into him before he met Marius. I think we'll get more about Lestat's "involvement" with the trial next season, but just know that he didn't want Claudia dead, and even during the trial and rehearsals you could see that he tried to defend her by "going off script", said script directed by Armand.
Now, about Armand, you'll get to see more about him too, he's such an interesting character. I don't ship him with Louis, but you'll eventually love him too. There's much more to his relationship with Lestat than what we saw this season, and I think part of why he didn't try to save Louis during the trial has to do with trying to punish Lestat. I think he regretted it tho. He is a character who craves love and affection but doesn't know how to do it. He also craves for control. He thought Louis would never love him, he knew Louis wasn't completely over Lestat. But with Claudia out of the way, Lestat drowned in guilt and grief, and Louis just full of hatred, he took his chance with Louis and he did try to make it work. As we saw in this episode, Louis decided to stay with Armand as a way to punish Lestat since he couldn't kill him, and he thought Lestat planned the trial. Armand then realizes that he would have Louis as long as Louis still resented Lestat and he tried to keep it that way by "editing" Louis' memories. Lestat was spiralling and he didn't say anything to Louis because he thought he deserved the punishment and suffering, and didn't deserve Louis' love, nor he would do desperate things to keep Louis with him, he did profoundly regret what he did to Louis in that fight, so he probably wanted Louis to choose his own destiny. However, he came to regret leaving Louis to Armand because he knew what Armand was capable, remember Nicky? Who got "help for his death"? Well, he thought Armand drove Louis to suicide in 73, I think he thought Louis was dead for a while since he can't communicate telepathically with him. So more guilt, he thought Louis died because of him. I don't think they'll be back as a couple so soon, of course they were meant to be, but for now, they are grieving parents, who spent almost 80 years miserable without properly processing the death of their child and their part in it. They are the only two people that miss Claudia and that love her, only they can understand and help each other through the process of grief.

Yeah, the showrunner confirmed that Lestat thought that Louis was dead in 73. 100%. Because Louis didn't actually talk to him through Armand. All he knew was that Louis had hurt himself and then... radio silence... So he assumed Louis died.... Or potentially that Armand was being a liar, as he is known to be... which is why the two questions that asked him were "Were you actually there when Armand called me in 73?" and "Did you actually hurt yourself?"...heartbreaking scene. As an Armand defender the finale shocked me, but so what if my baby isn't innocent, look at that pretty face and those big shiny eyes, he's just a broken needy boy desperate for love, I still support him.
On further thought Armand's decision makes sense from his point of view. He hadn't even known Louis and Claudia for 5 years when this happened and he isn't stupid, I think he could tell that Louis with his fuck boy moves (telling him our relationship is whatever) didn't really love him. It's not suprising Louis' "not quite love" didn't win against abandoning the life he knew and destroying the coven that he had been leading for 200 years. I mean rules and rituals are how Armand has endured for so long.
I love Louis and Lestat too but they have each other now while Armand still has no one to put him first. 🙉🙉🙉 I still love Armand the most
Fuck it, they're all a bunch of serial killers anyway

spoilers (?) kinda ? it's just stuff from the book that relate to this episode to answer your questions.
    - lestat didn't let claudia die, iirc armand froze him/had control over him during the trial. lestat was also tortured and starved before the trial so he had barely any strength anyways.
    - although i'm not particularly an armand fan, i'm a bit disappointed that they made him have no regard for louis' life because armand truly loved louis, it's the reason why he wanted claudia out of the picture, because he realized as long as she's alive he'll never have louis for himself. loumand is an intriguing dynamic specifically because armand is so obsessed with louis, so it was very ooc of him to just let him die. (this is why there's a lot of armand/loumand defenders, he really did love him)
    - claudia's death is one of the things that keeps haunting lestat for the rest of his life, it's a mistake he can never get over. so yes, we WILL get more delainey!! :) (if they are faithful to the books at least)

I actually don't think Armand's willingness to let Louis die negates the fact that he loved him. It's definitely different from the book (and i see that neither as a good nor a bad thing) but I think Armand did love Louis, he just wanted the stability of the coven more and was willing to let Louis die because he thought Louis was never going to be able to love him as much as he loves Lestat. So he would rather have the structure and security of the coven than a Louis who leaves him eventually.

I think that we should just wait when we get Armand's perspective on things. I notice it's so common for us book readers to jump into conclusions and have trust issues with how the show will adapt things, and yet all they ever do is to tease us and then make us fall in love with how they do things. We never get to hear Armand's actual motivations on why he had planned to get Louis killed along with Claudia. They are increasing Louis's role in the story going forward, which is what Anne Rice wanted, as she regreted not using him more in the stories. In season 3, we will likely get a lot of Louis in the present, but it will be all Lestat in the flashbacks, and I imagin Louis wants to hear Lestat's story as much as everyone else. Lestat lived a long time before he met Louis, and when he mentioned the "Blood of Akasha", that is going to be the center of the plot for a long time going forward.

At the end of the day they’re all super f*cked up and have done awful things. What Armand did was indeed terrible but I can’t help but feel for him at the end of the day, just like I do for the others, in different ways. His desperate need of wanting to be loved because no one has ever showed him love. And wanting to love but does he really know what love is? He knew Louis never truly loved him, he knew Louis was with him out of spite and basically his rebound (although I’m sure there was some fondness there). He accepted being that for him and I think that’s sad. He’s so broken. He’s had many masks but they’re all off now and I can’t wait to see what that will look like for him next season. They went to great lengths to make him not one-dimensional and show the root of his toxic need to never be alone. I also catch a hint of spiteful violence in him that I want to see more of. So yeah, he’s my evil little meow meow and I want to see more of him and how his story develops.

This finale was absolutely amazing, it left me speechless…I’m so happy Lestat and Louie found closure, it was such a beautiful moment. When it comes to the books after “Interview” I would say read “The Vampire Lestat” and “Queen of the Damn*d” to prepare for season 3. Also, I would recommend reacting to “Queen of the Damn*d” it fuses both books(there is ton of stuff changed in the movie, but without looking so deep into it, it’s a fun campy time). Side-note: Akasha is the mother of all Vampire’s, she’s 4000 years old, Aaliyah plays her in the QOTD(whoever is coming up after her has huge shoes to fill but I trust the directors to make the perfect decision), which she absolutely slayed.

There must have been a separate director for the season finale, it was amazing! As you said, it captured the vibe of the first season which, unfortunately, most of the second season didn't capture. Side note: I live 2.5 hours from New Orleans. There's so much history, it's a different world down there. You can literally feel the history, vibe, culture and energy of the city when you arrive; like it's alive and knows you're there. I visited the Royal Street townhouse where Lestat & Louis lived in season 1 and also made a stop by Anne Rice's mausoleum to pay my respects. Anne Rice disapproved of every actor's attempt at playing Lestat on screen. She was adamantly opposed to Tom Cruise playing the role. I regret that she was unable to see her greatest creation, Lestat de Lioncourt, come to life on the screen as she wrote him, as she created and envisioned him in her mind. I have no doubt she would have viewed Sam Reid's portrayal of Lestat as basically a birth, as if the creation from her mind had finally been born into a physical form. I know Anne is watching from the other side with approval and a long-awaited sense of satisfaction. Rest in peace, Anne Rice, and thank you for dedicating your life to creating these characters and stories that have captivated the world for decades and will continue to do so for eternity.

You guys will love the second book, The Vampire Lestat. It's by far the best thing Anne Rice ever wrote. Ever since it was written decades ago, everyone who loves it has been hoping someday it would be made into a movie -- but while there have been multiple permutations of Interview and one film based on the 3rd book, Queen of the
Damned, we've never gotten a real adaptation of that most grand and sweeping novel, The Vampire Lestat. They cruelly made books 1 &3 into films and skipped the best book!
I can only assume that's because book 2 (Lestat) has a story which spans centuries and takes place in many countries throughout those past centuries.
In other words, The Vampire Lestat will take some serious money, time, and talent to adapt to film -- assuming its done well.
Knowing the epic story that is coming in season 3...omg... So excited!!!
I'd honestly given up hope at this point that anyone would ever take on the project because of the vast scope.
Do a spell or say a prayer (whatever works) that they do this story justice.
If they do, it will be MAGNIFICENT.

Thanks so much for your reaction! ❤ It's totally a rollercoaster watching weekly eps and I really loved it for this show. The showrunner has stated that Louis and Lestat's relationship is the heart of the show so I have no worries about Jacob Anderson continuing to be amazing with a new Louis storyline. In fact, I think they are adapting books that specifically include Louis or can expand his prescence. I loved his arc of acceptance so much and seeing Paul and Claudia's dress brought tears to my eyes and the final line was perfection! I would love for Delainey to come back as well either in flashbacks or as a haunting would be so awesome ❤ I am also praying for a October release to bring it back for spooky season 🙏🏼 and it will also give me time to read the books 😭

We still don't know so many things, and the last episode only gave us more to wonder about.
    How was Daniel created?
How did Lestat end up in Paris?
    Where are Lestat and Armand?
I know how many of these answers are answered in the book, but I am curious to see how they will be answered in the show and what else we will see later. But I must again give kudos to Sam and Jacob, because their reuinion had me in tears. As a couple they were toxic, it was abusive, even without the parts that weren't fully remembered this is still true. But when they see eachother again all I could see was the love that they had for eachother in that moment.

I think for the first question, Armand turned Daniel into a vampire! Louis said not to KILL him. He didn't say don't TURN him!

@@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 I mean he said if you hurt him in anyway, you could count what he did as hurting him if Daniel didnt want to be turned. Louis probably didn't consider Daniel being turned though so this would be a very funny loop hole 🤣

I think "interview with the vampire", "The vampire Lestat" and "the queen of the damned" are the best in the saga (The Vampire Lestat being number one). But I have read them ALL, except the one Im reading right now that is the last one "Blood Comunion" (im spanish but I think something like that is the name in english), and I enjoyed most of them, but I think they are like -The adventures of Lestat- and what I liked of them is everything that went back to the first three books (Louie-Lestat relationship, Claudia's haunting, Armand always being Armand, Marius and Lestat always with their philosophical talkings, Lestat's obsesion with beauty, art, music, and love of life) so yeah, I think if you stay in "Queen of the damned" you will have a great vision about the Vampire Chronicles, and if you are obsessed with Marius and Armand (as I was) you can also read their books. Then if you want to see the end of the storie you can jump to "Prince Lestat" "Prince Lestat and the realms of atlantis" and the last one.

I cried at the end of that episode. All of the vampires have a deep, painful backstory.
