Oh my god I'm SO excited to see you discovering The Rose!! They have been my absolute favourite for a long time now. My favourites from them are Strangers, which is a bit more to the heavier side musically and OST to a k-drama called Strangers From Hell, and Take Me Down is such a banger as well. But the song that's been mentioned in the other comments as well, She's In The Rain, is something every human being should experience in their life. Pls listen to it, you won't regret!!

You didn't tell me you were checking out The Rose!!! Seeing Sorry in person was an amazing experience. That and She's In The Rain. Both Woosung and Dojoon have incredible voices and I love those 4 goofball so much. ❤ Jeff (all 4 have english names)/ Jaehyung- the bassist, is my bias- he's just such a sweetheart.
We've talked about this before but I swear we're the same person! I got into kpop on a more serious level about 5 years ago, but before that it was Warped Tour and the rock/ metal that my momma raised me on. The punk/ rock to kpop pipeline is REAL!!!
Also, if you're interested in more k-bands, I would recommend N Flying (Oh Really and Hot Potato are some of my faves) Onewe and Day6. 👍🏼

Woosung also did some solo albums especially while the other 3 members were in the military

  • @zcst4eva
    @zcst4eva Před rokem +7

Not sure if you know any of the backstory for The Rose, but they've had a tough go of it. They debuted with a bang, going on a world tour almost immediately, but about a year in they had a dispute with their label over breach of contract and non-payment, and basically had to go on hiatus at the start of 2020 while they were in court. It looked for a time that they might not get out of their contract, so the 3 Korean members of the group (Dojoon, aka Leo, the keyboardist; Hajoon, aka Dylan, the drummer; and Jaehyeong, aka Jeff, the Bassist) decided to do their military service while the court case was ongoing and they literally couldn't put out music. Woosung came back to the states (he was born in Korea but moved to LA with his Mom when he was 8, so he has American citizenship) and started his own independent label, and put out his own solo album. The court case was finally resolved, and The Rose won, obviously, and they were able to keep the rights to their music and their name. Once the members completed their military service, Woosung went back to SK and they spent like 2 weeks just reacclimating to each other and writing, writing, writing! That's were the album HEAL came from, and the four of them then headed to California to record the music, and start shooting their MV's. Their back catalog is not very long, it will be pretty easy to quickly get to their current album, and I'm so excited to see you on this journey. The Rose are phenomenal, and I'm so so glad that I got to see Woosung when he opened for Epik High on their tour, and then The Rose as a whole last year!
Also, Woosung and Yoongi are the same age (Like, I knew their birthdates individually, because I follow BTS and The Rose, but I never put it together that they are literally the same age... Yoongi is 12 days younger than Woosung!!) and it totally blew my mind when I saw they were collaborating and then realized that they are same age friends! It totally makes sense though, Woosung is close with Tablo from Epik High, and Tablo's very close with Namjoon and Yoongi. It's a small world, and it just keeps getting smaller, lol.

They did all the South American Lollapalooza's as well as some festivals in Europe and they are booked for Lollapalooza in Chicago (TXT is also going). They've just started posting their tour vlogs for the festivals, and they have been working on music in between traveling and performing, so I'm looking forward to hearing about a new album soon. New group today?! Color me surprised, impressed, and excited! (No idea what color that would make me, so maybe let's not... lol)
Anyway, I knew this day would come, and I'm actually less hesitant than I thought I'd be. Maybe because I've at least heard The Rose and know I liked what I heard? Hmm.
The one song I know that I've heard is "She's in the Rain" -- that one is beautiful, touching, and amazing. I LOVE it, despite literally never making it through without crying (there's one specific stretch of lyrics that always hits me hard, and I'll point it out if/when you react to that song).
    *Sorry*
I was thinking Woosung has such a beautiful voice, right as you commented on it. His voice always stands out in "She's in the Rain" as well, and is a large part of WHY the lyrics hit me like they do. The song's on my playlist now, too... there's no way I could leave it off. It's just beautiful, and sometimes I need to hear something like that. I might have to check out "Always" since you mentioned that one and I've got no ASTRO experience (apart from hearing one song a couple of times).
    *Sour*
Jeez... goosebumps as soon as the "I'll Never Know" harmonies kicked in. Just wow. That one's officially on the playlist too, goodness. So, so good.
I agree, thank you to your friend for the recommendations. These were both just beautiful, and I appreciate having new songs to throw into my rotation.
    ---
Haha, I love being able to compare what you listened to "growing up" to what I did, and knowing when those groups were active in my own life. You already know I'm 43, but just to give a little more perspective of how that relates time-wise...
My dad listened to a lot of Pink Floyd, U2, Led Zeppelin, etc. when I was growing up. The first album I personally owned was a gift from my dad - Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd) - and when I say that my vocal warmups were done to the tune of "Great Gig in the Sky", I'm honestly not joking 😂 Toto and Chicago featured heavily in my childhood and early teens, also.
I went through a lot of music phases growing up. In 6th grade, New Kids on the Block was all the rage, and I was on board that train (ugh lol). In junior high my tastes started changing and I leaned toward a variety of female singer/songwriter types and Celtic-influenced sounds... think Clannad, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Mary Black... I'm not sure exactly when I started listening to Tori Amos, but I know her debut solo album was the first one I owned (released in 1992, the year I turned 13). By high school I'd also experienced a lot of Metallica, Guns 'n' Roses, and so on.
Now, enter my husband, who I met at the tail end of 1997. Through him, I was introduced to bands like Linkin Park, Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit (who I never really liked but whatever), and a bunch of other stuff that he and all his skater friends (aggressive inline that is, not boards) listened to at the time. Aside from him, I still listened to my own stuff, mostly bands driven by female vocals, like Evanescence, Lacuna Coil, etc. Through online friends I was introduced to stuff like VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Apocalyptica, H.I.M., In Flames, and a lot of others I can't even remember now. All of this was late teens through early 20s 🤭
I did later start listening to My Chemical Romance, some Fallout Boy, The Killers, etc. I also started listening to A LOT of EDM of various sub-genres around my early 20s, and I still enjoy listening to vocal trance, especially when I'm working at the PC. A few years ago, I started getting into epic trailer type music (I mentioned that stuff to you on IG already, I think), and if I enjoy that when playing battle-heavy video games.
Fast forward to last November and we have my first real introduction to Kpop. I had HEARD some before (I mean, heck, I remember BoA's "Eat You Up" being super popular way back in the day, and what American hadn't heard BTS's English releases?) but never really had any inclination to actually listen on purpose or discover anything that wasn't being thrown in my face already. As I told you on IG, though, once I got started with my first few songs, Spotify and CZcams very quickly worked to expand my horizons and let me see what I'd been missing. Now it's rare for me to choose any of my English playlists, despite having several of them (including one that's mostly Nightwish and one that's mostly rock from the late 90s through early 10s) that I obviously took time to create a long time before I started putting together my currently 12-hour long "daily" East Asian playlist (EA because it has Korean, Japanese, and Chinese in it... and one Thai song, I think...).
My family is a musical one (or, rather, the family I grew up in is musical... and my son can play several instruments... the rest of us just have our voices, really) and I really enjoy seeing musicians playing instruments. I love acapella music (Pentatonix and Home Free have been on my radar since their Sing-Off days, and my most recent concert was actually Home Free last December), and most of what I've personally performed has been acapella or choral arrangements and almost always with groups because I get really bad stage fright.
    ---
I saw DAY6 and ONEWE mentioned below also, and I have to agree. Both of them are awesome, at least from what I've heard by each one.
    DAY6 on my playlist:
"Shoot Me" - Definitely my favorite song by them. It's got a great lyrical message and an amazing video to go with it.
"Love me or Leave me" & "어쩌다 보니 Somehow" - These are both fun to sing along to. I don't think I've seen the videos, if there any MVs for them.
"Not Mine" & "You Were Beautiful" - I listen to these less often, but they're on there because I liked them when they popped up as suggestions.
    ONEWE on my playlist:
"End of Spring" & "Rain To Be" - These two are definitely my favorites, by far. Fun to sing along to, and fun videos (so. much. water. in "Rain To Be")
I have "Parting" on my other playlist (not the main one that I listen to on shuffle daily), and I've heard other songs that haven't made it onto the playlist yet
Overall, I really love what I've heard by them, and Yong hoon's vocals really just shine for me (all the vocals are good, but I love his).
    ---
Whatever, I know I missed a lot of groups that I probably loved at the time, but I'm rambling again, so I'll shut up about that now🤣
At least I know you don't mind me being so long-winding, lol 🥰

@@kiwimosier I've been tempted to do covers and post them somewhere, but that would sort of require me to overcome stage fright enough to be okay with "being seen", which doesn't seem likely anytime soon... so I guess it is what it is. I've sung over the phone or in voice chat with friends before, though, so we'll see.
I checked out the Astro song you mentioned in the other video comments, and enjoyed that. I might just add it to my playlist and see what that makes Spotify pop up for me.
For gaming, it's generally mmorpgs for me. I'm rubbish at first-person anything, so I've got to be able to zoom out to see myself and what's around me... I'm not the best at them, but I've enjoyed playing. What usually happens is the husband finds a game we'll both like, so we both start playing, then he pushes hard because he's kind of a power gamer, and at some point he burns out but I'm still playing for a bit until my enjoyment dies off because now I'm alone, lol... I have been considering going back to Genshin to play with my 13yo though.

Oh, you're discovering 'k-band'!! 😊 its basically an entire music style in it's own 😉 Actually, one of my first real meetings with South Korean music, and what really got me into it, was a k-band 😅 I really like The Rose, they have a-mazing vocals and soothing music, but yeah, a little solemly. If you want to to try a different side of k-band, one that is a bit more energized, I can very much recommend N.Flying - my introduction to South Korean music 😉 'Oh really' by them was litterally the MV/ song that started it all for me, I was so intrigued by the all the colors and the fun energy 😅 Also, their 'The real' (not to mistake for ATEEZ' The real') is a really fun and energetic song and straigt up a fun and weird MV 😅😅 'Moonshot' is also really good, and 'The world is mine' oh and 'R U ready?' ... okay, who are we kidding? N.Flying have a lot of really good, fun and energetic songs 😅 ;) Especially on their album 'The real', 'Man on the moon', their japanese release 'Brotherhood' (which in reality maybe is more j-band...?) Anyway, they're really good 😊 Also, N.Flying in under FNC entertainment, who has the 4th gen boy group P1HARMONY, who are one of my top 5 fave groups and, speaking of companies that have both a k-band and one of my favorite kpop male groups, there's RBW inc. who have the brother groups ONEWE and ONEUS. ONEUS is a kpop group, who I recently discovered and absolute has fallen for - I love, LOVE their music! Their actual brother group ONEWE, is a k-band, who are a bit more alternative rock. I can very much recommend their 'Cravity', 'End of spring', 'Aurora' and 'Rain to be' 😊 Also, DAY6, is propably one of the most known k-bands. They're also an alternative rock band. They're actually STRAY KIDS' older brother group. Skz are total DAY6 fanboys, especially SeungMin. 'Shoot me', 'Zombie' and 'Sweet chos' are three song I especially can recommend from them. This became a longer comment, sorry. This is one multistanner getting excited over another multistanner discovering new music 😊 I was a bit of a rock girl, before I discovered kpop, 2 1/2 years ago, so yeah 😉 With the exeption of SUPER JUNIOR, my inner rock girl shows in the kpop groups who's music I've completely fallen for 😅

I also highly recommend Xdinary Heroes, Nell, Ft. Island, Hyukoh and Onewe, if bands are your thing.

aaaaah the rose!! i remember when sorry dropped, i saw the thumbnail and thought “why not, let’s check it out” and was immediately blown away. I bought tickets to see them in concert in 2019 but the concert was cancelled so i never got to 🥲🥲
You should definitely check them out more, Baby is also a great song!
I don’t know if you know them or ever heard a song from them, but i’d recommend you check out Day6 as well!
