My favorite part of this is when Phil starts absolutely killing these fools, you remember in that moment that Uncle Phil is a self made man. He wasn’t born wealthy. He got there because he’s smart.
Phil thought I’ll teach Will a lesson but I’ll have a bit of fun with him. Entertain while you teach. You retain the information better that way. You also know Phil put that $900 into a college fund for Will.
It's easy to forget that Uncle Phil was a self-made man who earned his way to college, earned money to afford it, and built his success from the ground up.
This is part of the reason why Uncle Phil grew to become so fond of Will. He may have gotten into trouble a lot and caused a lot of commotion, but he also brought joy and color to Uncle Phil's life. Before Will arrived, Phil had settled into a boring, upper class lifestyle trying to enjoy the more refined things in life, but it just wasn't him. With Will in his life, he may have gotten exasperated at all the shenanigans he pulled on him, but there's no denying that Uncle Phil enjoyed most of it. Just like this scene. If it wasn't for Will getting himself into trouble with a hustler, Uncle Phil would have spent a nice, quiet evening at home. Instead, he got to re-live his own college days and spends the night in a pool hall, teaching Will a lesson and actually enjoying himself at the same time. This show was so good, I could still watch it today and enjoy every minute of it.
You got that right and also, Uncle Phil was the Junkyard Dog on Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling, The Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon and he was Alonzo Sparks on the upn Comedy Sparks with Juwanna Mann and Terence Howard
Uncle Phil used a very common and classic technique of pool hustling. He let the guy win because he knew he’d raise the stakes. Normally the Hustler is the one to raise the bet, but in this case Phil hustled the hustler. He actually outsmarted the guy. A prime example of a well educated man who is also street smart.

I get 10 beer for that. My and my friend was bar and some random guys want play tagteam pool againts us. We say no and then they say we are chickens. We put bet 10 big beer. Then my friend put all ball down. They are so mad to us.

Uncle Phil’s character was a true class act. Wanted no reward for what he did for his family he only wanted what’s best for them. He was strong and also comforting with his children. He is the Perfect example of a loving father
Phil was conning the con man the whole time and he fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Pool 101, tip number 1: If your opponent looks and acts as if they don't have a clue on what to do around the table, stop the game immediately because they are a way bigger shark than you. You're welcome.

This is the moment that a lot of people realized that Uncle Phil came from the street. He wasn't born rich and his money wasn't handed to him. He made it out of the streets and used what he knew to propell himself and his family to a better standard of living. Will is a younger version of Uncle Phil. Uncle Phil never gave life lessons or advice to the other 3 because they always did what he said, but he was there to help Will navigate through that early part of uncertainty in life, when we transition into adulthood. He understood the difference between his own kids and Will.
He also saw much greater potential in Will than the other 3. He knew that Will may not have been the most well behaved, but he had a naturally smart brain that he could put to great use if he applied himself.
The way he said that with that little laugh, voice and smile was epic as he was saying you are in deep trouble. Phil is a man that is a caring husband, father, uncle. brother in law and just a good man. He has this ability to seem so gullible that many take advantage of only for those to regret it later. He is a man that will put his money where is mouth is while making a fool of you. Also don't EVER hurt his family in any way as he will find a way to make you pay. He also will make his children deal with what they did as well a punish them.

@Frank Truth Will got hustled, which cost him some money and Phil's car. So Phil finds out and pretended to suck so he hustle the hustler.
@Frank Truth You pretty much summed it up. The guy Phil hustled here had hustled Will earlier in the episode

That one-handed shot while eating a sandwich just really rams the point home.
