- Played on Fylde Signature Touchstone Mandolin (which I managed to pick up on eBay a week or so ago), accompanying myself with a Faith Naked Neptune Guitar.

Nicely played. A tune that brings back glad memories of the 70's. You were lucky to pick up he mandolin on embay. Orders from Fylde give a lead time of about six months. I have one and it was worth waiting for

This is lovely - very nicely done - great sound from your mando. This song always takes me back to the mid 1960s when I was a regular floor singer in my local folk club - on nights with no guest it was the tradition for all the local singers to crowd together upfront at the end and bellow this one out - seems a very long time ago now!

Do you find that drinking lots of coffee helps with the tremolo John?
I knew that the McPeake Family had played this song, but had always assumed it was an old folk song.
It depends on the time of day I’m playing/recording 😃. Coffee may help mid morning…red wine, in operation, can assist in the evening. Thanks for listening and commenting.
@phjimy.....it's an auld scots sang(braes o balquidder by robert tanahill) . mcpeake himself said he was in scotland and heard the braes o balquidder and took it back to ireland and adapted it in the 50s. look up.....the braes o balquidder by the kells on you tube.......an argentinian band which does a grand version of the braes o balquidder.....even singing it in a scots accent. many scots sangs made their way to ireland(especially in the 60s).

I’ll look back over stuff during the next couple of days and see if I can give you some info re the chords I used for the guitar accompaniment (I currently have a splint on my middle finger left hand to help heal a snapped tendon at the end of my finger…so very restricted mandolin and guitar playing at the moment, which will delay me a little!).

This, and Dave’s positive feedback about the mando (I asked him if he was happy with it…and he basically said a big yes!)…gave me the confidence to buy the one I bought on eBay.
