Dude welcome to the supermoto family. Hoping to answer many of the questions you had on this video: - To disable Traction Control, you only need to keep the TC button pressed for 5 seconds, no need to press both at the same time. You can also turn it back on doing the same thing. If it doesn't work, you either pressed it for shorter than 5 seconds or longer than 5 seconds. Annoying but that's how it works. - The false neutrals will get better but won't go away entirely. This transmission needs to be shifted hard to avoid these, suggest using hard boots (in case you use sneakers) to help add more pressure to the shifter without it hurting your foot. The factory pro shift kit with ceramic bearing will help remove false neutrals as well. - These bikes like to burn oil. To minimize this a hard break in is recommended. People on forums have confirmed that bikes that were ridden softly tend to burn oil at a faster rate than those that were ridden harder. Just pay attention to your oil level indicator regularly to monitor the level. - In terms of MPG, these should get around 45-50 when ridden at a quick pace but 60+ if you're just cruising at a steady speed. The farthest i've gone before the fuel light turned on was 165 miles. - For better wheelies, definitely consider swapping the front sprocket for a 15T. Will definitely wake up the bike. - For exhaust, the akrapovic ones are the quietest, Arrow and Tekmo are the better ones for power due to their free flow design but will be MUCH MUCH louder. - For intake probably go for Rottweiler, if you just do the K&N RU1750 filter directly to the throttle body (which many people do) you will lose a lot of low end grunt making wheelies harder to do, the rottweiler intake doesn't get that issue. Much of it has to do with the fact the intake kit preserves a velocity stack vs the pod filter eliminating it. - When you get a power commander, make sure you ask for the map with extra ignition timing if you have access to 93 octane. This map is even peppier than the power+ign map they advertise on the website. If you get the map switch with the power commander, you can have your eco map be the stock fuel + added ignition timing and the power map be that map i mentioned before. - Many people say that you have to change the clutch slave cylinder. For Mid Year 2020 and newer, they changed the slave cylinder to a different part number. So far my 2020 SMC has 3k miles and have not had it fail, I'm hoping it never will either so you likely shouldn't have issues. - If you plan on riding at night, the stock headlight is garbage, you can either use a Cyclops LED bulb, the KTM LED headlight or the Moto Madness Dual.5 LED headlight are all good options, from least good to most good. - For wheelies, i set all the suspension settings (can be found in a sticker under the seat) to soft and it feels easier to wheelie than when i had it in sport suspension settings. - If you consider the stock seat to be very stiff, the upgraded KTM one is not much better, you're likely better off with a Seat Concepts. Hopefully this answers many questions you may have, feel free to ask for any more info if needed.
Wow this actually answered a TON of my questions. Thank you for the very detailed response. Traction control was making me scratch my head. I ordered a lot of stuff for the bike already. It’s getting tekmo header, arrow can, pcv with the extra ignition timing, Rottweiler intake, fuel dongle, 15t sprocket, light weight battery. Couple other goodies too. I did get the ktm comfort seat hopefully it’s not that bad!
@@joesti7607 glad i could help man! Just remember to ask rottweiler for the higher ignition timing map. The one they usually send has 2-4 degrees of advanced timing. The one you request separately adds up to 7 degrees

I have a 2013 model KTM 690 SMCR, it is my first bike. It's still original, even the frikking mirrors.. :) I have a little under 100k kilometers on the clock on it and except one broken fuse on it, due to a fault batteri, I never had any problem with it... Driving in norway, with a lot of twisty roads, it is absolutely perfect... (I hate highways anyway..) I have past tons of super R bikes on twisty road and they was not capable to follow me in sharp turns. I did not realize this before I was driving with someone on a R bike, but I had to wait for him, or let him catch up with me in straight road stretches, but he could not keep up with me... This has a lot to do with the driver too of cause, but never once have I been passed by any other bike on twisty roads.. I drove from Norway to Italy and back on this bike in 2017 (4700 kilometers), for driving to the Stelvio pass in Italy, 147 hairpins turns up to 2758 meter over the ocean with a friend... On out way down (To Bormio) we passed a group of R bikes beside the road. I did not know it, but they where norwegian too and they desided to follow us and pass us.. They did not... I was not even driving in full speed coz of being in a foreign country, but I had stopped, removed my helmet and had filled some gas when a Norwegian voice that was voice my friends voice said, "Holy shit you where going fast!". I turned and saw the R bike "gang" we had passed and noticed that they looked at me... They had tried to take in the slack with us all the way down the mountain, but they saw to their dismay that we just made more distance in every turn... My friend, a very experienced MC driver, drove a Ducati Multistrada 1200cc and he had struggle down there on his comfortable seat. I changed my saddle just before this trip, to a "comfort seat" and had some issues, but when we got back up to Hamburg we had both iron butts... :) So I recommend you to upgrade to a comfort seat on this bike, the best thing I ever did on this bike (After I fell over the original accidentally and broke it in half just before we where going on this roadtrip. And if you ever decide to go to Europe to drive MC I recommend you to drive in Norway of cause (we have a beautiful country..), but also Italy, Austria and germany (Swiss too if you have a lot of money, very expensive there even by Norwegian standards and that says a lot...) I love this little bike and I'm glad I bought it as my first bike... It so agile and nimble and it turns just by thinking of it.. I have a little extra windscreen on mine, but that helps a lot for wind in high speed.. We where doing 130 km (top speed on my bike where 193, tried it on the German free speed autobahn..) all the way down and up in Germany, for days, so I know it helps..VERY boring thou just sitting there in 130 km for hours....) And remember ALWAYS use locktite on screws... I lost my gear-shifter once due to that a couple of kilometres before Frankfurt in Germany, on our way up again.. Thanks to the friendliest people in the world, the Germans, (just wow on the service in Germany, I just love them) I got a new one very quick AND locktite on the screw and it is still there... :) Good luck on the road. You're spot on with your comment about proper suspension setup over a bandaid steering damper. It's really frustrating that a lot of riders just can't get this.
I had the 2006 640LC Prestige, man I loved that bike, literally everywhere was on the back wheel or sliding around some place, super cool bike, miss it a lot actually.
Rottweiler’s got everything you need to unleash the power. Intake kit, SAS delete, Power Commander, Tenno titanium header, Pipe, etc. I’ve got the 19’ and it’s the most fun you can have on a street bike imo. Really easy to get carried away so be careful
I got a 990 Superduke a few years ago to keep my speed down when my daughter was on the back...... she just kept asking for wheelies every time we stopped at lights 😅
This won’t make sense to most people who haven’t ridden a supermoto. Buttttt: I learned on a TW200. Then rode a Ducati 1098. Later on a FZ-07, CRF450, 636, Ninja 650, Grom, Buell, Harleys, Ninja 400, KTM 390, etc. Plenty of fun bikes. And to this day, my WR250 is one of the most fun bikes I’ve ridden and prefer to ride most days out of the week. Now having that same type of bike but with a 690/701cc engine. Oh man. This thing is perhaps the closest you’ll get to the greatest do everything bike.
Hmm no gear indicator? Looks like a 2020 lol. But mb its just different in the usa, because the eu version got a LED screen , a gear indicator and rpms...
Hey man, thanks for the video. Do you still like it or did you get used to the power real quick and bored of it? I’ve ridden r6 for years and it’s a wheelie machine but it still needs a lot of room to push the bike. Thinking super moto bike. R6, R1 still option. Can’t decide
Was going to get the Duke 890r and ya sold me on the smc r, just seems like it could be more fun on the supermoto, even more so where I live it's like mostly back roads and switchbacks. Great video btw I subscribed to ya bro.

I have a Duke 390 and it’s been bulletproof through the thrashing. Single cylinder based on the same platform. They’ve been making dirtbikes a longgggggg time and are damn good at it.
I’ve just got myself one it’s got 500 miles on it now. I have ordered a Tekmo header Leo vince can, power commander , Rottweiler air intake. No had it past 5000 rpm yet as still breaking the engine in until 1st service. It has a gear indicator and a rpm gage etc read your owners manual it’s all there man.

Remember yr motor shedding some metal during break in so easy on the revs till yr first oul and filter change..i have the 690 enduro r and puts a smile on my face every ride :) definite hooligan machine
Right on man loved the video, I love that you're having so much fun that's the whole point lol. I finance a 2020 about 8 months ago, unfortunately it got stolen one month exactly after I got it very sad day, But I will get another one, one of these days...

I love your mirrors. LOL By the way, on which bike are you faster on twisty roads, supermoto or a supersport? I'm an average rider with a BMW S1000RR and a Suzuki DRZ400 SM. I feel I'm faster on my supermoto, but maybe I'm wrong, so I appreciate your input. Thanks
Exhaust, fuel dongle(replaces the O2 sensor helps down low), intake, power commander and a Cyclops LED headlight bulb if you plan on riding at night that light sucks.
5 /6 false neutrals happen a lot , have a 2014 enduro. also don't wait for 6000 miles to do oil changes... my bike chugs oil and turns very very black really fast. Hope it is better on your newer model.
That bikes sick bro! That's the next bike I was looking at to get you've had every sick ass bike out now you've ruined yourself for motorcycles for the rest of your life now your like hugh Hefner u cant even get hard unless it's a dime peice 😆🤙
Nice, I'm riding a SD 1290 R but it was always at the back of my mind to get a SMC R 690 if I have extra cash in the future...looking forward to owning one but I'm so in love with the 1290 R now
First mods, TST industries tail ight tidy and front and rear led turn signals. Wings Exhaust (unless you're banking) Rotweiller SAS delete and fuel dongle. it woke my bike up tremendously. Also Look into the throttle slack pieces you can buy. I can't remember where they're from. but thats my next mod. I love my 21! I'll be hitting my first 1k miles this weekend!
I should also note, don't forget to set up your suspension slack for your weight! it will help a TON with that nose dive! I set mine up after my first track day, and it made a WORLD of a difference. Also plan on replacing the clutch slave cylinder with and Oberon at some point. eventually you will lose clutch. these are notorious for these issues lol
Magnific reviu! Do you think it could be a good bike to begin with? An another cuestión please, when you talk about under 100, are you talking kms or milles?
Seriously with that mirror? What? it has no lock nut? Virtually ALL mirrors have a lock nut that you simply tighten maybe even with fingers?... with mirror just a tiny bit too far forward and then with night tightened as much as possible by hand simply pull rearward firmly to make mirror tight enough (on the fly while riding even) but otherwise as soon as possible? Just use a wrench ...just because it happens to be floppy at the moment (typically after being transported or bumped etc) does not AT ALL mean there is anything wrong with it! Dang! Maybe I am overly critical having been a motorcycle mechanic and working on hundreds of motorcycles that come in for something else but have mirrors flopping, mis adjusted levers ,bars and twisted handlebar to fork alignment etc ...I virtually always adjusted everything no matter what it was in for simply because it took 2 seconds and I personally could not STAND to even test ride their bikes with stupid ways the owners were tolerating them out of sheer ignorance....or for whatever other reason I have NO idea!
Nice vid! Weary of buying KTM after friends experience with theirs.. In all honesty they were not recent models, but they were hand grenades with random timers. You knew they were going to fail catasrophally, just not when :) Gerabox on them are always a bit agricultural, ypu get used to it. Watch Lambchop rides series of videos on the 690 for inspiration! Cheers
All I have is a 2016 FXDLS... But honestly, all I want is a supermoto. And have wanted one for years, but I don't know if I'd even fit comfortably on one, I'm 6'3 150lbs
That feels light? Ive been worried about this being way to heavy coming from a 450 supermoto... id say this is kinda a cross between a supermoto and a naked street bike... kinda wanted something more highway friendly but seems like its bad too...
yo dude i wanted to ask...i took my driver license for moto a while ago..im 26 and the only experience i have with motos is i used to drive when i was in highschool some 125cc-150cc scooters..the truth is that i had good control of the bikes that i gave exams for the license, all of them..and i freaking love the KTM 690 SMC R,and im thinking about gathering the money to buy it..you think its too dangerous or something to buy this for a first bike?
Nah I drove a deathtrap 04 zx-6r as my first bike, that shit was fast as fuck boi. Respect it, I only really pushed it to the limit my second year riding. Don’t ride past your limits. Take a rider course if you haven’t, lots of good info.
Do you think this bike is better in the tight twisties than the tuono? On long high speed sweepers the tuono is king, but on the really tight stuff its alot of work, my mate on his nuda just rips it up.
@@joesti7607 Thanks for that, im currently weighing up the pros and cons which is hard as the tuono ticks so many boxes. The power is endless but if I get done speeding again I won't have a licence, as you know the tuonos nature is just begging you to go faster. Great review thankyou, subscribed 👍
is it good as a first bike though because i ride quads and i have never rode a 2 wheeler and im thinking of the 690 smc and im kind of short 5'4 so i think i would be short for it can anyone tell me if i should get one?
Driving like that when the bike is not only cold but brand new is just stupid. Do you not want this bike to be able to get allot of miles on it? I hope you reck it before you sell it to some one else.

are you rolling around lebanon on a drz sumo as well? i run up down the valley on my 690 R and 1290 sdr all the time.
Wings exhaust, Rottweiler intake, frame sliders, FCR Suspension, KTM Dongle, Barkbusters Storm handguards, ride the piss out of it
Those KTM supermotos are clean ASF
Remember yr motor shedding some metal during break in so easy on the revs till yr first oul and filter change..i have the 690 enduro r and puts a smile on my face every ride :) definite hooligan machine
Right on man loved the video, I love that you're having so much fun that's the whole point lol. I finance a 2020 about 8 months ago, unfortunately it got stolen one month exactly after I got it very sad day, But I will get another one, one of these days...
Hope you had insurance
The false neutrals should be gone shortly before or immediately after your first service.
yea i noticed that as well on mine i dont get them nearly as often guess it really does break in i thought it was because im using motul 15w60, man i feel like mine didnt like doing 3rd gear power wheelies fully stock she rips so fuckin hard after a pipe air filter and tune man
i havent had the slave cylinder issue yet i hear its a common problem , does it just fail when it goes no clutch actuation at all i wonder?
I love your mirrors. LOL
By the way, on which bike are you faster on twisty roads, supermoto or a supersport?
I'm an average rider with a BMW S1000RR and a Suzuki DRZ400 SM. I feel I'm faster on my supermoto, but maybe I'm wrong, so I appreciate your input.
Thanks
Tight twisties supermoto for sure. Faster stuff I’d s1000rr
I think false neutral is a common thing across dirt bikes and supermotos. Even when I was racing motocross, I hit them pretty often.
Exhaust, fuel dongle(replaces the O2 sensor helps down low), intake, power commander and a Cyclops LED headlight bulb if you plan on riding at night that light sucks.
Made a big order with rottweiler performance for all that stuff!
@@joesti7607 Good shop to deal with.
thought my speed triple was a hooligan bike , it's been gathering dust since I got the ktm 😅
5 /6 false neutrals happen a lot , have a 2014 enduro. also don't wait for 6000 miles to do oil changes... my bike chugs oil and turns very very black really fast. Hope it is better on your newer model.
If i ever get an opportunity to meet u i would probly try to make it happen ur my favorite type of person lol
You could probably buy an aftermarket tach/hour meter. Idk what options are out their but worth a look.
That bikes sick bro! That's the next bike I was looking at to get you've had every sick ass bike out now you've ruined yourself for motorcycles for the rest of your life now your like hugh Hefner u cant even get hard unless it's a dime peice 😆🤙
Thing look so fun, I would be doing the samething doing wheelies all day
On my 4th KTM now & it’s a SMCR. Lovin it. Sold my 790 duke as it would not keep a charge.
If you have any questions, find me on Facebook, I'll add you to a big ktm 690 group! We can help you with ANYTHING you have questions on!
I'm 55 and my life has gone boring. Would this bike help?
Yes I’m 53
buying one in a few days, can you give a quick update on the false neutrals? i heard it gets better with milage
do a race against h2 :D
It would be baaaaaaad lol
In the twisties.
The false neutral is common.but to fix it you just have to pull it up into gear hard than you would for other bikes.
Perfect Amazing Fantastic Exelent Magical The Best Ever ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Looking fun waiting on mine to be delivered to dealer
Magnific reviu! Do you think it could be a good bike to begin with? An another cuestión please, when you talk about under 100, are you talking kms or milles?
First bike it should be ok. Just keep traction control on until you learn the bike. I’m talking mph
@@joesti7607 Thamks!
Great video! I owned a ktm 500 and I loved that bike, very light at 240 dry.
Is this CCM??? Its the EXACT same layout EDIT i should've watched a little more than the first min of it
I have a 2018 ktm 500 exc-f ...I run 70/30 tires off the 690 ...I'd love one myself but just bought a Mt09 sp 👌love from 🇦🇺AUS 🙏
I’m sure it has a gear indicator. The old one did. Just need to switch through the dash
No Us version didnt get gear indicator. In Europe we got that + rpms. Maybe it comes to 2022 in Us.
Break in period, whats that? 🤔😂 haha awesome video
I cringe seeing him driving with so much rpm
@@DvisionScorpio I did too lol but not my bike so 🤷🏻♂️ enjoy the show 😂
The 2021 has a gear indicator
How fast does this go and how doesn’t it fell cruising at 70+ I am really considering the spike coming from a DRZ 400 SM
You really need to have a go on a 1290 Superduke...... preferably the RR version if you're quick enough to find one.
I owned a gen 1 super duke a couple years ago it’s a great bike. Would love to get a go in a gen 3
I love the bike. Can’t believe it doesn’t have a tac or fuel gauge. for all that money.
Did they fix the vibration issue when riding on the highway?
Whats the reason to know what gear you're in?
I did about 260 miles of mostly highway on my 21 DRZ400sm. It’s my first bike so idk what wind is like on a regular bike, but damn lmao.
Mirror delete, i aint trust em
I thought the Aprilia going was helping pay for the new H2? You must have so much spare cash.
Just got mine i love it
How do you deal with aggressive drivers . I nearly got arrested for something that happened before
Stay away from them haha
Oh noooo the mirrors... Lol..... Maybe you can get a separate big round tach gauge... Mounted on bars
@7:27… did I go 2 gears .. yes sir .. yes you did
The number plate position needs sorting ASAP!
It does have a gear indicator 😁
How do you like your H2? Still enjoying the 690SM? Looking at buying a 690SM and H2 Z
Love my H2. I like the ktm i havnt ridden it much yet but im about to bolt some parts on it for more power.
@@joesti7607 I was about to buy a Tuono. I'm glad I didn't. Down to 3 bikes now. Room for two more in the garage.
They are tall bikes you would fit easily
That feels light? Ive been worried about this being way to heavy coming from a 450 supermoto... id say this is kinda a cross between a supermoto and a naked street bike... kinda wanted something more highway friendly but seems like its bad too...
It’s light compared to nakeds it’s definitely not a good highway bike. Feels just like my 500 exc on the highway
@@joesti7607 how does it compare to your 500 on twisties? Doing hooligan shit?
yo dude i wanted to ask...i took my driver license for moto a while ago..im 26 and the only experience i have with motos is i used to drive when i was in highschool some 125cc-150cc scooters..the truth is that i had good control of the bikes that i gave exams for the license, all of them..and i freaking love the KTM 690 SMC R,and im thinking about gathering the money to buy it..you think its too dangerous or something to buy this for a first bike?
Nah I drove a deathtrap 04 zx-6r as my first bike, that shit was fast as fuck boi. Respect it, I only really pushed it to the limit my second year riding. Don’t ride past your limits. Take a rider course if you haven’t, lots of good info.
Do you think this bike is better in the tight twisties than the tuono? On long high speed sweepers the tuono is king, but on the really tight stuff its alot of work, my mate on his nuda just rips it up.
Yes it is for sure better on tight stuff because of how light it is. Faster stuff the tuono is much more stable.
Wings w quite insert in. Rot fuel dongle. KTM abs dongle. And get a 45t once the chain stretches. You’re welcome.
is it good as a first bike though because i ride quads and i have never rode a 2 wheeler and im thinking of the 690 smc and im kind of short 5'4 so i think i would be short for it can anyone tell me if i should get one?
Driving like that when the bike is not only cold but brand new is just stupid. Do you not want this bike to be able to get allot of miles on it? I hope you reck it before you sell it to some one else.
Ktm wtf is up with that dash? No gear indicator?
Why this over the 701 good sir ? I’m about to buy
The main things that made me chose it over the 701 is the quick shifter/auto blip factory and I have more ktm dealers in my area
Thanks mate . Safe riding
Awesome video.
I got a mt10 and I’m really considering one of these. Replace my hooligan bike that will put me behind bars with a hooligan bike that won’t :)
man i love the mt10. I like the ktm too but I wouldnt sell the mt10. I sold mine and regret it.
In which country do you live?
Oh man its been 5 days but damn i miss my liscense! only 55 more days to go :/
Is it stock in this video
