- A little bird wants to befriend two pelicans and share in the plump fish they flaunt. When one of the pelicans needs help the little birds feels powerless until an opportunity arises and a decision must be made.

'Birds of a Feather' (2018) is written, directed, designed and animated by Bianca Nall. This is her first short film.

Can't believe you actually killed off a major character and didn't bring them back, it's not what I expected from a short like this but it was a pleasant surprise, especially seeing as it genuinely contributed to the plot and wasn't there for shock value or cheap sympathy. Goes to show that you can still tell just as impactful of a story and have a happy conclusion

This video is beautiful, with all the adorable expressions and detailed movements. Also, every time the small blue bird does literally anything I find cute, from it’s little flying animation to the faces and poses it does, I can’t help but say ‘Awwww!’

Ok but I really love the sound effects. The water noises, especially the sounds of the flippers hitting the dock are so satisfying, they’re right on the nose

@@larslionheart I agree that's it's rather well done compared to most. It's barely there, instead of in your face about it like a lot of animations.
It also uses the "angular male, rounded female" cue: the male pelican has a triangle-shaped head if you ignore the bill, whereas the female has an oval head.
Yeah but it does the job. I mean you figured out it was female didn’t you? That’s the point. You can whine about stereotypes all you want, but it’s a fucking cartoon bird.
i still don't get the pont of making a female and a male. Like my comment says, all pelicans look the same. If you wanna make the two cifferent why don't just give one a scar or something like that ?
It's not just about stereotypes you know?
When the differences are magnified, loving become difficult.
When the similarities are magnified
it becomes easier to love, care and share.

If you’re wondering what happened to the female pelican, in my mind she was injured (not dead). Now she’s being rehabilitated in a wildlife sanctuary. I probably should have put a clue to this in the credits but will definitely put an easter egg for this in my next film.

One thing I thought was... "Maybe Mama bird got injured and she was rescued by humans and brought to a raptor rehabilitation center and was released in a different location... and maybe when baby bird and papa bird fly together they'll see her in the distance flying to them!"

I study birds, here are the species based on my studies.
-Australian Pelicans(Both Male and female) Because they have the iconic S-shaped neck when flying, and obviously because of their gular pouch.
- Cormorant(Black Bird), because cormorants cant fly, and swim to achieve food such as fish. They also sunbathe by spreading their wings and standing still.😊
Comorants can fly just as well as your average pigeon. Not tryna be rude but i don't think you study birds if you don't know that...
@@jaguarlegoanimations9826 Yes that indeed is correct, they CAN fly as well as a pigeon. They flap alot more often(to gain medium speed) and alot of young adults have a minimum amount of wing feathers which means they don't fly very well like most seabirds do. Sorry if I wasn't being too specific on the comment. Just wanted others to know that they don't fly as good as an average seabird.

I've literally come across for short animated films with the same "birds of a feather" title. Must just be a really popular name for thesis films involving birds I suppose.

This is a masterpiece and I like how you used an underrated bird like the pelican
The main character was a cormorant, which was amazing. In my opinion, all birds are underrated. We don't get movies and TV shows about birds often, and rarely do we ever get one that decipts birds realistically. I always find that in bird movies and TV shows they mostly go with some stereotype when they are writing the bird such as getting the beak color wrong (a lot of birds have gray beaks but they make them yellow) or they make the birds live in their nest year round, or the worst stereotype BY FAR is the one that DOMESTIC CATS are totally a natural predator to birds, they are actually an invasive species.
How in the crab legs does this only have 2.8k? Am I reading this wrong?

Also it discribes these birds very well cause many birds like parrots or how you showed us pelicans stay together with theyre mate for they're entire life .This is probably one of the most professional animations i have ever seen!
