This is the only video I found that showed how to choose an adult shelter dog so clearly. Thank you!

My service dog is not food motivated and has never been food motivated. Praise motivated instead. Great at his job and just fine. ❤

I really don't like using food for motivation either I know you can make things a little faster But I've ran into problems in public with people throwing chicken nuggets past my legs to my dog. also Restaurants With food on the floor And people carrying food around. Mobility assist service dog Rottweiler.

@@advent35 considering I made this comment a year ago we gone towards food motivation and now my dog is decently food motivated. However we proof the problems you listed regularly with not only his food but out in public all the time. It's not that big of an issue and the reward of having a food motivated dog is way worth it

Thank you for making this. I’ve been weighing up the pros and cons of choosing a pup or rescue and it was really helpful to have it all worked out by someone who is experienced. I appreciated the written information and also the practical experience of testing in a shelter. Thank you :)

I too have a Rottweiler service dog, I've had Rottweilers for decades long before I lost my leg from a careless driver. I just love the breed and reliability Plus I need something big enough to climb up onto to help me get up if I fall. But yes breeding and temperament Are very important with any dog.🦿🐕‍🦺🦽

Well you can use an e collar if you want on vibrate if your dog acts out say no firmly and then if it keeps up then VIBRATE them after the warning and give them time to respond if vibrating doesn't work repeat the warning then shocking on a low level is ok

@@servicedogonabudget180 you should NEVER EVER! Put a shock collar on a dog! You know that IS ANIMAL ABUSE

Say no firmly and if he doesn't listen then walk away take a few secs and try again

@@channelinprogress6828 Shock collars are different then e collars and the training is totally different. Its ok if you have a different opinion but balanced training has changed my pups and my other trainee dogs life for the better.

you can use a head collar. you will need to desensitize them to head collar. first, put it on and treat..take off...and then over time use it on walks...

People should never just come up and pet a service dog or any other dog for that matter a service dog should never be distracted by people
