I think an 144Hz monitor would be best because you are using a laptop and your FPS don't seem to get over 200 in game. But, if you still want a super smooth monitor (not that an 144Hz monitor isn't smooth) you could get an 165Hz monitor. I use one and it's super smooth (I get about 170-210 FPS in game so imo a 240Hz monitor would be a waste of money, until I upgrade from a laptop to a desktop that is)
144hz and 165hz doesn't make a visual difference that is noticable in real time, however you have more reserved frames to keep the game smooth unlike 120 where if it drops just 20 frames less you may notice it

idk what you have done before but changing it just from the game doesnt make any difference . you must go to the screen advanced settings from windows otherwise you will think that it is 240 while it is 60
even if u cant get a stable 240fps its still good to have the monitor on 240hz which is how many times the screen refreshes it will just refresh on the same frame maybe once or twice but still less visual delay
I'm not sure if this is true but were you confusing Frames Per Second with Hertz? I'm sure you already know the definitions but I'm going display them either way: Hertz = times the screen refresh's per second. FPS = how fast each frame is changed to the next.

Ngl I know he’s played 240hz before because when me and my brother switched from 60 to 120 it was weird but amazing. You also gotta tweak your settings and everything because having double the fps with 60fps settings feels way too fast.
Stay on 240 its gives you more advantages than others with lower hertz monitors because yours is registering more fps than the opponents you see things happen faster than they do
