    I love seeing Nigerian elites. However, I'm a little baffled by their perception of luxury. Why is luxury analogous with all things European? What is African luxury? I feel as though they're merely boasting about having access to white owned expensive items. Luxury needs to be redefined to exist outside the realm of white elitism.

    • @Biobele

      Throughout the video, I compared the African elites to Oprah Winfrey. She is a billionaire and would never waste money on clothes and shoes with diamonds. In fact, she invested in a school for impoverished African girls. None of the elites of Nigeria talked about how they've helped anyone except themselves to get richer.

    • @owenbeharry8478
      @owenbeharry8478 Před 5 lety +15

      These people have the right to spend money how they want to. Oprah does spend her money of luxury good and real estate, she actually had a show auctioning off luxury clothing she no longer use, it was for her charity. Also, this documentary could be one sided, we don't know if they donate their time and money to charity. A few for the Nigerian elites have actually pledge to give money to developing the country and social causes.

      JAchica11 It doesn't matter if they're Nigerian, Middle eastern , Chinese, UK, or American Millionaires/ Billionaires. They don't give two fucks about people lower than them; whenever they donate to charity, it is to evade taxes.

    • @ej4555
      @ej4555 Před 7 lety +23

      @fa11234 you need to stop being naive and comparing Nigeria to western countries. Nigeria is way behind the majority of western countries. Majority of the rich westerners have more than 90% of their money inside of their countries and they would never waste this amount of money, with no return, in NIGERIA. Tell me one western billionaire that you know and has millions in properties all over Nigeria????
      Nigeria has the biggest economy in Africa due to his large population. Why don't you say that it also has one of the biggest wealth gapes in Africa? Nigeria's pib per capita is one of the lowest in the world.

      The diamond industry is in a cartel - there are like 2 diamonds companies in the world (real mined diamonds not cubic zirconia). They mine in South Africa, Brazil etc... and sell the best gems in Europe/Asia/US. You will probably not find them in Africa, the market is not there. Africans don’t do engagement rings or diamonds gifts, it’s more about gold here.

      Jennifer, there are plenty of rich white westerners who donate to the homeless and poor in the U.S. and abroad. It happens every day. In fact the U.S. with all our problems are always donating to other countries but how many of them donate to us. Get to stepping you dumb ass bitch! Taking the money and running while your own countrymen suffer is what irresponsible people do. Though U.S. has problems and there are poor people throughout the world, flaunting your riches without talking about what you are doing for others is despicable. I don't care what anyone says, it shows no compassion and greed.

    l hope they're using the wealth and influence they're lucky to have, to help better the lives of their fellow Nigerians, a large number of whom live in a serious state of poverty, in any way shape or form. Not because they're under any obligation to do so, but just because giving back when you've been blessed with alot is always the right thing to do.

    firstly the rules for personal shoppers sais that as a personal shopper your not allowed to try on the goods your buying for your clients because you run the risks to scratch it or damage the Item without even notice and then the Item would lose its value, and second if you wear the Item before the owner does then it's not new anymore it's used ! even if she wear them for a few ours and twirl in front of the mirror with them and then put them back in the box she still used them.

      KLA 248, honestly I'm so happy for them, but I would be more happy if they would invest into their own country, disrupting corruption, eliminating prostitutions, over powering poverty, helping those earning 2.50 pound a day, these will boast our economy. That will make me more happy, but it's so sadden to see that she cares to be more joyful to make a name to herself in Nigeria, slavering her own kinds, to than spend the money in London.

It seems only white people get to experience these things that are about living a carefree stress free life (at least in the media). Having fun and feeling relaxed and enjoying and not having your life defined by Africa’s reductive image. Of course MA ends badly but that’s her fate, not everybody’s.

Difference with African, but they will spend their money everywhere. You are only seeing this show which is shown for the Western World. You don't see what they spend in Africa, they have the same types of shows on TV there. Don't forget before Europeans destroyed Africa and it's Culture, Africa was the richest continent! This is nothing in comparison to what the Kings of the past spent and adorned themselves in Jewels, before there was a Europe, etc, The Romans were the first to want what they had as well as what the Jews had in riches. People need to do their research! They are only used to the Media painting Blacks in one form! They like to make them look lesser than Europeans, etc!

    I have nothing against people attaining wealth. It's a beautiful thing to reach financial freedom. But I can't understand how Nigerians give out their wealth in the home of their forefather's masters, while their people die on the open seas trying to reach Europe, where they are not wanted or either sold into slavery, before they even see anything that looks like a boat.
    I don't believe that they should simply give away their money. This really helps no one, but they can invest in ways to allow those who feel that fleeing their country is the only answer to a better life, build a better life at home, without having to risk their lives.
    We really seem to have some of sort of sickness that doesn't allow us to see the value in our brothers and sisters, as if we can't seem to grasp, that helping another achieve financial stability strengthens us all. This is how other formally oppressed people are rising to greater power, while the majority of our people remain among the poorest.
    Africa, with all of it's riches in resources, shouldn't by no means have some of the poorest countries in the world! Makes no sense!

Or because of your own skill and hard work? Did you just inherit your wealth? Or did you make it yourself. Are you using your wealth to improve the lives of the poor and under privileged or are you spending it on flashy self-glorification? All of these factors say who you really are.
