I had the same issue with the flickering 4k60p when I recently added a custom flat 'log' profile.
Since the recent firmware 1.20 update, that issue has disappeared.
It was apparently a bug listed in the firmware that has now been resolved.
Thanks for the information. I’ve gone ahead and pinned your comment so it’s easier for people to find.
Honestly tho it’s impressive that Nikon has gone from basically useless in video with their DSLRs to having figured this much of it out with mirrorless already.
Exactly what I thought!
I had Fuji, Canons and Sony but Nikon feels right for me always and everytime. It’s our bread and butter in daily business, doesn’t matter if portraits or stunning 4k food videos! I love the system.
You can go into custom controls and assign the control ring(focus ring) to something other than focus or do nothing. Its an option on Z6. Should be there on Z6ii as well.
It's there on the Z6ii also. Expanding on what Mystic said, the key point is that while some Z mount lenses have a dedicated focus ring that makes a12 available, other lenses, like the 24-70 f4 S lens, have only a control ring. Under firmware v1.3 f2 in Custom Settings lets you configure that ring to control either Focus, Aperture, Exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, or None (nothing). I was happy to see the None option. This video really had me going for a minute.
@@gerrys6318 i find the button layout of the Z6 quite smart. I wish it had that one auto focus button on the front as well, just like the DSLRs. I miss that button on the Z6 while shooting photos but during videos i love the i menu, especially when the camera is on a gimbal.
I would pay extra for a camera that DOES NOT have a side hinged pull out screen. Unless you want to shoot yourself it is a nightmare, slow, cumbersome and obtrusive.
Well done Nikon I say.
This is a fantastic video, thank you so much for this. I've been eyeing the Nikon Z6II because I'm so invested in Nikon glass, and honestly I think the advantages of this system outweigh the cons for my own personal needs.
This channel has a ton of production value, feels very high quality. Congratulations on nearing 1k subs! Hope you're ready for monetization!
Thanks for watching! I bet the Z6II will not disappoint, I really liked it over all.
Good Morning from New Zealand, Brilliant Vlog, thanks for sharing, have a great rest of your week
Idk how you don’t have more subscribers bro! This vid gives so much great info so thank you for giving all your experience with this! I’m an artist looking for a video so I can capture my concerts and have gone back and forth BUT this helps a ton!
Hi, I can change manual focus ring for video off or set it to other functions (like apperture control) in manu (g - Movie, g2 - Custom control, then select Lens control ring and choose which function it should have).
I would love to see a video on how you grade from the flat profile. I've used flat, neutral, portrait and really having a hard time getting the colors that I want using Davinci Resolve.
I am also facing glitchiness while capturing 4k 60 p with J log. Is there any solution to overcome t?
hey. if you half press the shutter button when you turn the focusing ring it will snap the auto focus back on. but i was pissed when it use to happen to me when i was doing a talking head and have to turn the af off then on but i found out just half pressing the shutter button put it back on.
Hi, what do you recommend for the sharpening setting in video? I'm using the flat profile and it's set to 0 in Quick Sharp, +1 in Sharpening... I hear a lot in general it's best to turn sharpening off, or I guess set it to the lowest negative number possible, and add sharpening in post. What are your thoughts? I'm using the Z6 ii with final cut pro.
I'm not sure what is the main attraction of "internal recoding" considering the cards tend to not be able to hold much data, and they're much more expensive than going with a larger and cheaper recorder with the atomos.
I set my focus ring to ISO since i film alot. ISO is better as a ring function rather than a button fuction. The fact that Nikon allows users to set the ring to be a different function is a win.
I just wish the 60 fps could be also shot via the atomos ninja v to get 10 bit.
Hi wow very interesting to learn that the z6ii can shoot 4k60 and yes I agree Nikon made a massive mistake by not releasing it with 4k60 as almost all the shops still has the tec specs listed as 4k30 and that it has a 30min recording limit but now you say its got 4k60 and you've filmed for 50min straight all news to me. thx for making the video after the firm ware upgrade. Any more upgrades since then...?
Is the problem with the AF and the ring only on video or also in photos ... Like changing that while ur taking photos?
I opted for a JLwin cage for my Nikon z5 which looks nearly identical to the Small Rig cages and just as strong. I added the handle for the top and the side grip to it which were both Small Rig accessories. I have not scratched my camera with this cage at all. I am loving the cage designs for the z5 and z6 (camera overall size is identical so cages fit either) making it simple to add mic and a small LED and also a 5 inch monitor for front facing vlogging off a tripod. Backfacing monitor is great to do some handheld cinematic moves in shorter pacing when a gimbal is not needed. I may upgrade to z6ii or z6iii when it comes out in 2024 mid year.
hello i m from belgium, posible recording 4k 60Fps en proress raw ?? nos speek english sorry
we can help me to find LUT in FLat profile ? Davinchi - Gradient ?
I just published my first impressions on the Z6ii and watching a bunch of reviews to see if I should return it or keep it🙈 My biggest hurdle is the lack of that vlogging screen :/
The lack of a flip screen is a concern. But I do think it depends on what kind of vlogging your doing how much it matters. However, it might be worth looking in the Canon R6 or the Sony a7IV or possibly the Sony a7C if the flip screen in a must.
what is the crop at 4k 60fps?
It is 1.5x crop in 4k 60p
Did the “hot card” message ever popped while shooting 4k60? Did you use XQD or CFexpress?
I can’t say I ever did. I used an xqd card back when I had the z6ii but unfortunately I don’t remember the exact make or storage amount on that XQD card.
can you get backup in second memory slot?
Yep!
Why would you include the reviewing cage as part of a review of the camera?
Becuase it’s a review for z6Ii shooting video. Cages are very standard for most videographers to own, and knowing that a camera has a good one is really useful info.
Sad but understandable. I love Nikon but it’s always these annoying little things that are holding them back. Hopefully we can get internal Nlog and 60p full frame. That would go a long long way. Also hoping for a Z50ii with IBIS. That would be amazing.
and focus stacking...
I'm very much confused in between s5 and z6ii, my main domain is videography and editing. Plz help guys
The s5 is over all a better video camera except for one area, video autofocus. If you plan to lean heavily on video autofocus there is an argument for the z6II but it wouldn't be my first recommendation at that price point. I would give the xt-4 and EOS R6 a look. Do you know if record limits would be an issue for you?
@@summitbid I have no issue with recording limit. My purpose _[ ad shoot, travel cinematic videos, shortfilms to submit in film festivals, indoor youtube video shoot]
So I found a weird thing with my z6ii. The z log makes it go all funky as well, like your samples, so now I’m having to shoot in the nikon flat profile. Also when you press record, if you accidentally bump your focus ring on the lens, then the camera will only go into manual focus mode and not pop back out to autofocus mode. I have tried to disable the focus rings on the lenses, but no luck. The only way to get it back to auto focus is by stopping the recording. I own 2 z6s and 1 z7 and I don’t have a single issue with those cameras. I can go in and out of manual focus back to auto focus while the camera is recording, just by hitting the ok button. Anyone else having an issue with this?
We have definitely had issues with bumping the ring, but not getting back to AF. This is honestly something that Nikon REALLY needs to address
@@summitbid the crazy thing is my nikon z6 and z7 don’t have that issue. So I think it’s a weird firmware issue
Had no issues with my 4K 60p.
most people shift systems more as a sheep-following (especially among CZcams "creators") and/or due to lack of insight/confidence, rather than for any objective reasoning that could be communicated clearly....in my observation....
czcams.com/video/YgtMGa-QkAg/video.html here’s a link to the video where I explain why I made the switch.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@summitbid Thanks for for your reply.....I shared my observation (of many YT creators)...not targeting anyone....I will watch your video....have a great time....
Annoying - why did you move and where is the video saying why
The follow up video is coming very soon.
You’ll come back to Nikon. They alwaaaaays come back haha
It could happen, they make amazing cameras.
@@summitbid with the z9 now out, what are you thoughts on this comment 7 months later? Genuine question.
@@xchubxyoda Hey Toby here, While I have remained with Sony since I made this video, still rocking that Sony a7SIII, another member of Summit Bid has returned to Nikon for the Z9. More info is coming on this soon.
so he went to a camera system that is twice as expensive.
You would be way happier with an a7s3
If you are true Photographer you don't need Flip Screen . your eyes and your Brain are the screen . That is none sense ok . iv been shooting Landscapes for 50 years . . flip screen is for the Laziest photographers etc . 👍✌
You CZcamsrs who use the word "Hate" Why? Ever look up the word in a dictionary? Or just copying others who keeps that word going in a new definition of that word?
I mean the definition if you google hate is “intense or passionate dislike of something or someone,” and while a bit dramatic I don’t see it as totally out of line. Keep in mind I also used the word Love in the title, so it’s just to give an idea of my contrasting feelings on the the camera. For example: what I love and dislike about the Nikon z6II,” just doesn’t sound as good.
Perhaps your thinking of a different definition of hate, which is totally fine. I’m sorry our use of the word makes you uncomfortable.
@@summitbid
I sure did not see your "intense or passionate dislike" come across your video. Only a mentioning of the word. I am aware of this quote in the definition.
The wide use of this word in describing a product is assisting in keeping an emotional bent on the forefront of something that should not really be described as HATE.
Dislike, yes. Hate, no.
@@Bryster51 Okay alman :D
Hii in nikon z6ii in video bokke is look distort why is that I think that don't have in Sony, I don't like z6ii because of the video is not good
AF is over-rated… go Sony 😂😂😂
