- This week on Brain Waves, we are joined by schizophrenia experts Dr. Carl Sellgren Majkowitz, psychiatrist and researcher at Karolinska Institutet and 2019 Kaiser Permanente Rising Star Research Award Winner, as well as Bethany Yeiser, President of the Curesz Foundation, author, and violinist. We will be discussing the trajectory of treatments for schizophrenia, as well as how society is progressing to eliminate the stigmas associated with it.

I have sz and as long as I have beer and philosophy i'm good. Wait ...the occasional steak mushrooms and onions potato and melted butter. I sound German here sort of. Meds have helped but the cognitive environment you choose has major impact on your well being. I would be even better if I could get thousands for my paintings and the odd frauline too. Thanks for the video...Bethany made me have a couple of tears during her performance.

What an inspiration she is! I'm wondering how she realized she has anosognosia? From my understanding, they lack awareness, and I didn't think they ever come to understand they have it because of their brain not letting them.
Suggesting schizophrenics may need to be on long term antipsychotics seems a bit disingenuous? What about natural substances like sulforophane, niacin, etc?
Where is the brain waves discussion?

Meds is one way to do it....maybe a compromise..agressive diet therapy.
Niw that she is recovered...and stable..
Can 2 mg per month be reduced under drs guidance...with each reduction folowed by sleep and diet and functional
It's mainly a autoimmune disease!

Why take crude chemicals...both r Unrelated..
Isn't it maybe diet/apnea making nerves weak...almost dead....needs 2 weeks time to recover...diet...yoga(oxygenation)

Ya....I think best to co-operate with dr the first session onwards. Maybe a disclaimer this is gonna suck ....so really it's giving control over of brain..and then dr has to say I am now responsible for ur..umm functionality....and maybe a law on that...
Drs really shudnt be frustrated over things going as per law. Law is law....much easier to understand..that what the psychaitrist "thought"??
If drs r so right....they can be held legally responsible..else just say this is crude way of fixing life problems..no problem we will buy the pill if it's really good ....for us.... hopefully not drs feelings....
Money and time is an issue for all ...not just drs..patients equakmy valuable.
No Shame in saying these r products developed by private companies ..and u r customer...not parents etc.
All other biz transactions r relatively clear..why can't psychiatry ...calling to be science of clear thought be clear on the basics.... sorry... my thought on the matter....based on my loclaized exoerience
I wish dr told I need to control....u can control...but have to try hard... I think sam Harris book...freewill...as in we may not have theoretically..from a brains individual...but put that aside..and life balances out....
Bethany...if you were jailed for let's say 3 days(food and sleep), how would you think life wud have changed....and police connected u to a social worker...

Are psychiatrists taught on the possibility of parents projection. Projecting the drs parents /childhood, on the wildly differnt patients parents/teenage..
I sometimes get the feel a profile

Actaully eating normal food is cool....I think it's scientific to think the general guidelines by govt holds... psych seems more against govt...

What if parent has info from public literature on schizo and nods with dr who says things that seem very similar to searching for meaning for one's life.
Actions in life ..or just living balances out the voices...I have narratives or conversations inside head...but not always. I thought jeep it inside....self talk ok....?

2 friends is enuf. The pressure to "be normal, or be friendly with all"...
Drs may have this idea that a well balanced mind means accepting everything...like buddhism or something
It's a bit cruel....have to be friends with everyone...by force if necessary
