- VN24 - Kamen (NRW) - After the fatal truck accident on the A2 near Kamen, the recovery work of the towing companies begins. A container bridge must be salvaged, as the accident truck. First there are problems with the separation of tractor and trailer, but these could then be solved. It was afternoon when the motorway was open to traffic again.

Cab over is where I learned in a 1986 freighliners. After learning bought me a FLD conventional and l love it for long haul. Be safe and keep trucking.
RIP Driver..
In the blink of a eye, sorry for the families loss.
Sorry for the loss of the driver. I hope that the tow company has replaced that frayed cable by now !!
Ruhe in Frieden,Kollege...
Hola muy buen trabajo y cordinacion felicidades .
They are OBVIOUSLY NOT trained in doing a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before doing a risky task. If they needed to steer the dolly wheels then use a pair of slings one out each side with one man at least one each; and standing well back. That way they could have pulled tow bar either way to change direction. If they worked for me they would have been INSTANTLY Suspended and required to do Risk and Safety Training with a test at the end that a Fail would mean the Sack.
Possible hidden fractures in those legs could have been worsened by the crash or caused by Crash, could have had container suddenly fall and crush those under it.
They are working with ouț judgement
@@nicusordumitru8720 Working with No Brains more like it. One term comes to mind! Dangerous! That Box lands on them or Idiot pulling DAF unit where cable comes adrift and kills him then road will be closed forever!

Getting to recognise some of these recovery guys , bit risky getting under the container like that ! . Sad story though.
I call them the risk takers and why never use remote lights or trailerboards ?
@@100gpdriver No idea, but suppose it's to get the road cleared as soon as possible.

Why wasn’t adaptive cruise control/auto braking engaged? It would probably have saved his life!
For safety sake..... replace that worn cable.... If it breaks under a load you could get hurt.... Cables do wear out.....
At time 9:19 in the video, the tow cable breaks free of the wrecked truck and flings back hitting the Tow Truck, barely missing the Winch Operator. Would have easily killed him. This is the VERY reason most of the latest Tow / Winching / Recovery trucks have electric over hydraulic controls so the operator can use a Wireless Remote Control and stand well clear of the Danger Zones when things break or fly off. Obviously, the management of this Company is not really Safety Conscious as this is filmed in late 2019 so they should have already either modified their trucks or at a minimum provided better Safety Training. That sledgehammer smashing of the broken door while under the tension of the tow cable, to get it to come away was more suited to a 1920's KEYSTONE COPS Comedy movie than in a professional workplace
Over 23 years ago saw an accident where the cable broke and the end piece came into the face of the operator, he survived but had to undergo plastic surgery for years afterwards, unfortunately his face never became what it was.
word *
The world has gotten to the point, when 8-wheeled tow truck (with the lowest gearing there is) and a mighty-ass chain, stands still as an anchor, using 500bhp engine to power puny whinch with an Auchan cable-cord. This looked something like pulling a hand-digging shovel with a CATerpillar. You've got the equipment, *use* it.
VERY VERY DANGEROUS going under the container whilst on it's legs, especially with no head protection gear. NOT very professional at all.

@Hello Maik how are you doing

I must make a comment about the lack of safety used by the personnel involved in removing these trucks and trailers. Where was it? I can't believe the lack of awareness in being safe whilst carrying out their job? PPE? Helpfully these guys will change their working methods and think safety all the time. Be safe guys!!
Your comment is based on absence of knowlege how these recoveries are carried out.

Lauter Fachleute hier! lach

A Long hooded Truck Distributes the weight better and gives more traction. the only time a cabover can compete is by putting a fourth axle that steers behind the cab. think of a truck like a SEE-SAW. if the weight is counter balanced then the tires GRIP the road Better. in the USA we have spread Axle Trailers for that reason, especially in Bridge formula states. Nice to hear from you
Our trailers and axle spreads are made to complement each other perfectly - I don;t know much about the USA-suffice it to say that each country has different regs and those are there for a very good reason. We don;t have long units (tractors) here - they just wouldn;t work, and having permanent 6x4 would be seen as a huge waste of fuel and great inefficiency (Fuel prices in the EU are double what they are in NorthAmerica)
No truck would have survived this accident be it forward control (as in film) or normal control (conventional).
