    You put this together really well. Never would've thought of this as a video idea, good job.
    One adjustment to the point at 4:10. The retaliation isn't set at 3 ticks after the player is in range. If I recall correctly, it is set at 1 tick slower than the attack speed of the enemy. So for the few enemies that attack every 5-6 ticks (many quest bosses), they will retaliate slower than a 4-tick Guard.

    Regarding flinching: The timer isn't always 10 game ticks, the formula is (npc's attack speed/2 rounded down) + 8.
    Since most npc attack every 4 ticks they have a 10 tick flinch timer 4/2 + 8 = 10.

    • @PurpleGod
      @PurpleGod  Před 5 lety +1

      Awesome! thanks for clarifying this

    • @GeChallengeM
      @GeChallengeM Před 5 lety +4

      Also, flinching isn't just possible for melee. Melee is just a specific case. In general, it works like this:
      Let's start in the situation where the NPC is out of combat (for example, when it never has hit you and you have never hit it).
      1) Attack NPC
      2) When NPC gets a hitsplash on him, NPC starts his flinch delay which is attackspeed/2 rounded down
      3) After the flinch delay, you should be out of his range. An 8-tick timer runs.
      Any hitsplashes the NPC takes at during this time won't affect flinching.
      4) If the NPC hasn't attacked you in those 8 ticks, go back to 1).
      The 8-tick timer resets when you're hit by the NPC. This timer would only start running again at the moment the NPC is able to do an attack again.
      I've used this flinching knowledge to find a perfect zammy kiting method (no zammy hits taken). It makes use of flinching with ranged attacks.

      @@GeChallengeM I'll have to try this next time I get to rangers in the rope room at CoX. Very insightful thanks for sharing man

    • @GeChallengeM
      @GeChallengeM Před 5 lety

      @@PurpleGod Not sure what you want to do there. If you shoot a ranger, it takes some time before the arrow reaches him. The flinch only starts when the hitsplat appears on the ranger, but before your arrow arrives, the ranger already has fired a shot. You can only use these flinch mechanics at NPC's which have a short attack range, so they can't attack you when you attack. For example, zammy: he can only attack in melee range.
      The only way I know how to flinch the ranger at rope, is by splashing a magic attack. But that's completely useless if trying to kill the ranger.

    Think I know how barrage prioritization works. The game is divided in 8x8 areas which keep track of the NPC's on them. If staching NPC's on a tile and barraging on them, the NPC's which entered the 8x8 area of that tile as last would get targetted. This has some effects at for example greater nechryael. Death spawns usually spawn after you set up the nech stack, which means death spawns are nearly always prioritized over nechs.
    You can see the 8x8 areas if you enable "Chunk Borders" in Developer Tools on runelite.

    • @PurpleGod
      @PurpleGod  Před 5 lety

      I completely forgot about chunk borders while making this video, thanks for reminding me I'll have to include it next time. Also tried playing around with this at Corp to learn about how the core targets players. I'll definitely include this in next video

    • @GeChallengeM
      @GeChallengeM Před 5 lety +1

      @@PurpleGod I know some more mechanics which weren't in the vid yet. Not sure if you know them or forgot them as well or just saved for the next vid, but here they are:
      - Every tick, if the NPC doesn't have a target, there's a 1/8 chance for the NPC to pick a random tile in its wander range to walk towards. For most NPC's, this can also happen on the tick they respawn, which causes them to sometimes seemingly spawn 1 tile off the normal spawn spot. The wandering area is a square centered around the NPC spawn spot, and the NPC can pick any tile in it to walk towards even if the tile is not walkable. This causes for example corp to be at the back of the cave most of the time.
      - It's possible to interact with NPC's directly on spawn (which is 1 tick earlier than usually possible). This is most easily done by clicking on the NPC, opening an interface, waiting for the npc to despawn (doesn't matter how, for example killing it with an alt), and closing the interface 1 tick before the NPC/object respawns. If the interaction is "attacking", you won't get combat xp probably because not all data from the NPC was loaded yet.
      - If being under your last attacked NPC while performing a red cross action (like clicking on an item on the floor), the NPC won't move at all.
      - You already talked about NPC's usually dieing the tick after it reaches 0 hp, and about NPC's dieing 2 ticks after it reaches 0 hp if the NPC was moving. But NPC's can also die on the same tick as you deal the finishing hit. This is happens if it gets a hitsplat "after" the finishing hitsplat but on the same tick. This can easily be done with scythe. It's also extra useful at phase 1 kq because she won't even have time to fire the final attack, before dieing.
      Nice vid btw :)

    • @GeChallengeM
      @GeChallengeM Před 5 lety

      @@PurpleGod Sure :)
      Also, I forgot about another mechanic: poison/venom. If you leave the NPC aggression area after poisoning/venoming the NPC, they become unpoisoned/unvenomed and immune to poison/venom. You have to make them respawn if you want to be able to poison/venom them again.
      Fun fact about poison/venom:
      Cows and chickens are immune to poison. For cows, this is because the poison/venom timer is instead used to make the cow say "Moo". For chickens, this is because their poison/venom timer is used to let them lay eggs. But the dev making the chicken code forgot to make the chicken timer activate on respawn. It's possible to activate that timer yourself by trying to venom or poison the chicken. This is most easily done with serp helm + blowpipe (bronze darts to reduce ko chance).

    Hey! Thanks for uploading this video. I was looking for guides on Runescape PvMing and you were able to expose me to many mechanics that I was not even aware of.
    Is there any way you can make an updated guide on what Runescape mechanics beginners should learn first? If you can't efficiently list them in order of importance, can you give some insight on how you became a better PvMer?
    I've played Runescape on and off for years and would like to eventually get the Infernal Cape after maxing. Sadly, the most bossing I've done were only barrows and god wars dungeon.
