Im not sure if this validates the humvee being on the battlefield but it sure is cool. I mean this is literally turning the Humvee into a monster truck humvee xD
Considering there is no real change of the protection level, what advantage could this have over L-ATVs for example? I dont really see any. Mobility? Questionable. Price? Barely. Versatility? Nah. Making the supply chain even more demanding? Yes.
Does that actually improve the structural integrity of the vehicle by a large margin in the way the L-ATV does, which is so much needed against IEDs? I personally am highly sceptical. But then again I am not an expert or engineer.
Recent M1151 sales in 2014 to Iraq were close to $300k a piece. US DoD usually paid $180-200k a piece in 2009. So my estimate for the current standard M1151 for US DoD might be somewhere around $250k. Weapons not included. Since Wiki states a $250k base price for the L-ATV as well, I cannot image the costs for this modified version being a decisive factor in its favour.
Familiarity is worth noting. The Humvee is an already well known and understood machine. An "Upgraded" humvee would be the quickest possible machine to adopt into practice. Mobility is ABSOLUTELY improved, no question about it. The price is always going to be fantastic because the military already has the means to support Humvees. Its also going to be as versatile as any other vehicle in its class, even moreso with the mobility upgrades. Im not sure how i feel about humvees staying on the battlefield, but better ones are always welcome.
this is AWESOME and BADASS, definitely a cool concept(more than a concept actually, since they built so many), but MRAPS are the future, and already took over as the main vehicle. Also, off topic, but is ANYONE going to mention how we may have stolen the MRAP idea from South Africa's Casspir?!
I guess if you have over 100 units currently in logistics it makes sense to upgrade as a new MRAP is $500k each.
Also you seriously dont always need an MRAP.

very good points! it's definitely cool, but MRAPS are the future!
I have to wonder if it can match the ground cleance of the original Humvee? I don't see portal axles on this and the diff seems way lower

Gustaf Grei he said there is Series 50 protection available for it for heavy protection.

Yeah, it will be inferior to the JLTV but I am curious about the cost about this suspension upgrade. Do you have any ballpark range cost estimate?
