  • Yugoslavia and England play out an entertaining 2-2 friendly draw in Belgrade in June 1974. Under caretaker manager Joe Mercer England are starting to put the pain of failing to qualify for the World Cup finals behind them and take an early lead through Mick Channon. However, Petkovic pulls the Yugoslavs level before a superb goal by Oblak puts them ahead. Kevin Keegan, recovering from an earlier incident with customs officials at the airport, grabs England's equaliser and Malcolm Macdonald spurns a great chance to win it. Includes an interview with Mercer and the thoughts of Sir Alf Ramsey and Brian Clough with Brian Moore.

    It was a great shame that Joe Mercer did not become full time England instead of Don Revie. England would have gone places with Joe Mercer

      He outlined a possible framework!!...Keegan/Channon/Worthington pulling defences apart, Bell and Brooking prompting, Watson and Todd supplying the rearguard (would have been Roy McFarland if he had not been injured around this time..

    Wonderful Joe Mercer - what a Gentleman. It's arguable whether England would have been more successful if he'd stayed as manager - but they would have been a damn sight better to watch!

      Yugoslavia’s goals were better, thus requiring any unbiased announcer to react accordingly. That’s how it should be

      That kit had class, quality and HISTORY. The modern kits are far too gimmicky and flashy to be taken seriously

    • @ZeldaFitz
      @ZeldaFitz Před 3 lety +1

      I totally agree, simple white kit is best, all that red & blue stripes added over the years is bloody awful, 1990-92, 92-93, 2009-10 are the only decent kits England have had in the past 45 years.
