The enemies in this game felt very unique. Even returning enemies sported new designs like the Boos now having a rather zombie like appearance. My guess as to why this is is because none of these monsters are real but were merely either in the cases of mechanical enemies built by Bowser Jr. or manifestations given life by his brush. That's why enemies like King Boo just turn into paint bubbles when defeated. They are Jr.'s creations. That's also why whenever you undo too much damage and defeat a good deal of the monsters in an area Jr. is sent to that area presumably to create more monsters and cause more trouble leading to that eventual encounter in the 7th mission of each area. More evidence is given when you defeat enemies like Strollin Stus by kicking them. When they hit a wall brown paint smears on the wall. Bowser Jr. basically created all the bosses and enemies in this game and by extension Bowser was the one ordering him from behind the scenes to do so.
@Magnus Von Braun They all explode into goop though when defeated. You just need to look more closely. Granted most people really don't go out of the way to defeat them since they are hard to defeat since they need to be flipped over with the Dune Buds.
@Magnus Von Braun They can be defeated if you flip them with a Dune bud. They have an interesting animation upon defeat where they splatter on the floor and leave paint that is their respective color upon hitting the ground.

Tropical games require tropical enemies take a look at the boo’s, bloopers, cheep cheep, piranha plants, Monty moles, bob-ombs, bullet bills, and koopas, but no goombas that’s because the steppin Stu is like the tropical version of the goomba
I love how each stage is themed with a classic Mario enemy. Bianco Hills = Piranha Plants Ricco Harbor = Bloopers Gelato Beach = Wigglers Pinna Park = Koopa Troopas, Bullet Bills and Bob-Ombs Sirena Beach = Boos Noki Bay = Eel Pianta Villiage = Chain Chomps
Honestly, I feel bad for that big Chain Chomp. The mayor talks about how it's a "problem", and the owner is yelling at it, even though it's not doing anything bad. It's just mad because the heat is causing it's iron body to get unbearably hot. It's clear what the issue is, but the owner doesn't even give it any of the water from the barrels right next to her. And if you look closely, the Chomp has marks on it, most likely from large impacts. Because this is the same lady who says she spikes her pets into the ground to "calm them down" (in mission 1), this leads me to believe that she hits the poor thing on a regular basis. I swear, there's little stories in this game that don't get talked about much.
I was going to saw “Why didn’t you add trampoline Stu!?” But then I realize he wasn’t a real character he was on the bets version but didn’t made it into the final release
I like the bloopers in Ricco Harbor, they're better than galaxy's blooper, if they bring back that design, they will shoot ink, causing the players veiw almost cover with ink and mario takes damage
Does anyone else get an unsettling feeling about the enemies in this besides me? Like there is just something really disturbing about them. And it probably has to do with the fact that these creatures aren’t even a form of nature they’re just mindless creations from the goop/paint created by Shadow Mario/Bowser Jr. and it should especially come off as disturbing from the way they will splatter all over the wall if you were to push them into the wall and when you think about it that is actually a pretty graphic way to defeat enemies in this game.
this is the first time i think i’ve seen a “smolderin’ stu” in this game, which level mission is this in? i obviously know it’s one where you have to go into the amusement park, so not 2, 4, or 8 cause i know mission 8 involves the stus that steal mario’s cap
