  • Local company Howdens despatches their recently built steam turbine to Singapore. A view of it leaving their factory and then negotiating the Glinton roundabout on its journey to Port Sutton via Spalding, Holbeach and Long Sutton.

It wasn't too bad. Did you see I included your personal transport just incase you were called upon to provide some extra escorting.😁

Good to see that a serious cargo is to leave Port Sutton. As you know the dock had an unhappy history soon after it was first opened. Nice to see Allelys getting demanding work in the region. For 4 years I was at school with the son of a man at Brotherhoods. Brotherhoods or another in town made sophisticated wrapping packing machines.

Baker Perkins made wrapping and packaging machines, printing presses, industrial bakery equipment and much more.www.westwoodworks.net/contents.htm
Don't ask me how I know 😁😁 Apparently Port Sutton is now quite a busy place although it did have a mishap over twenty years ago which I thought was about ten years ago.🤔 www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/news/local-news/looking-back-ship-stuck-lincolnshire-5282281
Alleys always make the job look easy, the surpising thing was the police escort which came from South Yorkshire, must be a bit low on resources at the Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire forces.

I wonder if they measure gallons to miles rather than miles per gallon for the fuel consumption for that rig under that load 🙂 - Great video.

Thank you for watching Malcolm. It is certainly a powerful tractor unit, as for fuel consumption I don't think I would want to use it for a Sunday afternoon jaunt to the coast.

Very interesting video thanks, what would such a thing he used for - industry I’m guessing but presumably this could have lots of applications? I thought Perkins was the only engineering game in Peterborough but I suppose I was wrong.

Not sure what the application will be for this one. Previous turbines delivered to Asia have been used for offshore gas drilling. Baker Perkins still exists, although in a slimmed down operation at Paston. Thank you for watching PP.

I wondered why an Allely 's large lorry transporter was parked in Papyrus Road near Howdens when I went to the Byre Vets the other day , it was empty then so was waiting to be called to be loaded .

That took me back 30 odd years . I shadowed the design and development of one of the first 1Mw Wind turbines at Brotherhoods (as was). Just think if we had put in the investment Peterborough could have been a world centre for alternative energy.😒

Too many people creaming off the finances and not enough money going back into research and development. Thank you for watching.
