  • Up there in the ranks of great freeware routes such as the New York Division Bergen Line - is this massive map, the 'Powder River Basin' by Tomcat.
A massive undertaking which started over 5 years ago relatively small and became over 500 route miles stretching from Nebraska, South Dakota and on into the gargantuan coal mines of Wyoming.
In this episode we'll concentrate on the portion called the Angora Sub between Bridgeport and Alliance Nebraska, going over a bit of history and industry in the 2 anchor towns and a cab ride thundering its way north between the 2 towns.

I gotta grab this route, gettin' board of these just over 100 mile routes. This route looks like one of those that will be discovering something new that you didn't know was there for a LONG time. Shoot, it even has room for building a fictional terminal railway. Also a tip, press "q" while in game, that'll reset the allerter.

Howdy! Thanks for the great video. A question though about this scenery: I noticed on the map that it shows the UP lines that cross in Northport, are those modeled as well, say west about 30 miles thru Gering?

I am impressed with how natural the slopes along the rise and fall of the land look. No sharp edges. The edges of the right of way is very defined, impressive. Has to be using some sort of splined overlay. So far the natural grouping of trees is done correctly. Here's a tip for the Layout builders. One to two types (species) to a low density group, and One to Three to a medium density group. With one type a little more dominant than the others. So different types of tree may grow in the same group but it will be separated from the other non-similar types in a collection. There can be one to two trees of one type a distance from the main collection of its type. This is scattered seeding that may flourish into a new collection of that type. Remember trees are competing for resources so they space out enough to allow each tree to draw resources without intruding on another tree.* On Average, per 100 meters the density is as follows: Low, 5 trees; Medium, 10 trees; High,15 trees or more**. So slapping down what amounts to a rain forest with a jumble of tree types will just look like crap. (*Forests for the Future: Local Forest Management) (**National Forest Resources and Management, Vol. 1)

I have learned so much about plant life, hydrology and geography since I became a route builder it's not even funny.
At this point I probably know about as much as an actual landscaper and I don't even work on yards.
The problem with learning all this kinda stuff is that it completely ruins the immersion on certain lower quality routes, especially older ones that don't even have any defined fauna types or plant species besides "grass clump A", "grass clump B", and one generic oak tree.

Thought I would check in on this, if anyone ever wants to play this, one may have to wind up yar-har-ing (piracy) the Tehachapi route. I quit checking in on what was happening and looking now, the 3dtrains site is totally gone. I never received my product.

    TEHACHAPI UPDATE: Please upvote!
So I'm making a separate post after replying to the OP of this video in my comment from 8 hrs ago. For the time being, the required content may be unavailable. Something may have happened to the guy who has been putting out the route, and apparently there ARE a number of people who saw this video. He's kind of dropped off the radar on the forums and there are a decent number of pissed off people. Meanwhile from the tone of moderators, they appear to kind of be on their heels with their hands up trying to calm people down, wondering legitimately if the guy is okay or in good health. I know little-to-nothing about the community, but I thought I would provide some context of what I think is going on since this video is kind of a gateway. I sent in an email today and also on the 7th to their support address with no response.
Don't write the route off, but it may be unavailable for now due to unforeseen circumstances. Hoping their mods don't get their heads bitten off by the people who want either Tehachapi OR this route.

@@schnauzahpowahz I tried e-mailing the support address. On the 3dtrains forums for the route, there's a number of very irritated people right now who probably saw this video, not that one wouldn't want the route simply for wanting Tehachapi.
Edit: I'm leaving it up for context, but I'm probably being a bit dramatic. It just seems like there's a few irritated people because I'll check in every once in a while on the forums and see posts from other people who have been waiting to get the Tehachapi route. There's at least a couple of people who are kinda losing patience, and then one overly nice guy who waited for like a month before someone said to try and contact again. I'll probably send another e-mail and try again, but it's kinda silent.

I gotta legit question tho, do they ever mix or overlay maps to like extend a map 🗺️? Kinda how they do the soldier summit goes from Provo to helper, and then that other pack adds Provo up to wherever I forgot what town it goes too, but then you can rock the length of both maps? Do any of these map packs link
