    The SA Ironman roads are very bumpy so that is good prep. Looking forward to maybe meeting you at the race. Good luck!

    In Kona last year Ironman gave out cheap Supermarket type water bottles , not bidons, they bounced straight out of my bottle cage ..... the only place to put one to avoid littering was down my top! I hope they start to provide bidons if they going to ridigidly enforce this rule!!!

    Same thing happened to my rear cage at Outlaw Half last year!! Putting bottle down my top saved my nutrition!

    Maybe look at the TriRig Alpha One cockpit which is highly adjustable and can accommodate multiple bottle/hydration configurations. Good Luck!

    Raced 70.3 Texas two weeks ago. Lost a bottle 10km in. As I didn't want to be disqualified decided to be a good citizen, stopped, turn and grab it back. Realized my bottle cage was broken...A bottle I would easily keep in my trisuit, ended up intentionally littering as I had no choice...which is what I wanted to avoid in the first place 😑

      I think a lot of people will end up like you. IM Frankfurt has a cobble section. That's where we see so many bottles fallen on the road. Cages get loose as well of course. I think that's gonna be a total chaos this year (if it's not already).

  • @jasonperschcoding2474
    @jasonperschcoding2474 Před měsícem

    You may attach a bottle holder underneath the extensions

  • @triathlonsushi

    I can expect so many people slamming on the brakes just before the end of the rubbish zone. Bike aid stations are chaotic already, but I think it's gonna add extra danger. One of my top reasons why I used a bladder in my suit was to avoid that danger too. The bladder didn't give me aeroadvantage when I was in the aero position. It somehow gave me advantage when i was upright though.
    I also take 120g of carbs per hour and the storage capacity is always a problem. I can not afford a new bike which is as fast as my current bike.

    Maybe the topeak alt-position cage mounts could helt you with adapting the bottle positions?

    Dual bottle cage behind saddle? & ditch the aero bottle on the frame for a 1l bottle

  • @RichardM-id7ec
    @RichardM-id7ec Před měsícem

    Seeing that they haven’t said about wearing a bladder on your back with a straw coming down the sleeve ( better with a long sleeve TT suit I know)

  • @drewshellenberger2358
    @drewshellenberger2358 Před měsícem +3

    Why not concentrate the 1L behind the saddle with all the electrolytes and carbs you’re going to drink and then have a refillable bottle between the bars to then fill up at aid stations? Both my dad and I race with that setup and he’s raced full Ironmans with it to great success

    • @user-uh2zv7ic9n

    What about wearing a small camel bk rucksack ? Neat and compact plus secure and a tube to drink from .. plus it’s not down your chest . The helmet is deflecting the air away from your back too so it should be quite aero .. be a trend setter of something new 😉

  • @michaelevans5558
    @michaelevans5558 Před měsícem

    Can you put it down your back or wear one of those USWE cycling hydration systems? Some have shown the packs have aero benefits

  • @LoranMaes
    @LoranMaes Před měsícem +1

    What I've seen other people do (also in Paris-Roubaix) is put sandpaper stickers on the inside of the bottle cages so that the bottles don't slide out. Could that work?

    • @triathlonsushi
      @triathlonsushi Před měsícem

      Yeah that usually works, but the best is to put a loop of a rubber band at the top of the cage, so you can put that on top of the bottle to secure.

    • @LoranMaes
      @LoranMaes Před měsícem

      @@triathlonsushi I did that when training for Ironman 70.3 Belgium last year when doing a recon and the bottles still hit the ground so I wouldn't trust that

    Hi Harry, love the video.
    Why don’t you just drink more before the race then you won’t need to carry water throughout?
    Thanks

    I think you should be happy about this new rule. Maybe other guys had big aero gains, then this new rule is in your favor 🙂

    Silly Ironman. That’ set up looks more aerodynamic than a bottle down your kit, and probably more comfortable

  • @crankgreenwatts
    @crankgreenwatts Před měsícem

    Crazy ruling and having a bladder on your front is not an advantage as same for all people. If carrying on the bike could easy bounce out as seen on the current TT100 series 😢 Cable tie a cage to your top tube?

  • @andyheilmann1656
    @andyheilmann1656 Před měsícem

    Ironman decided the bottle down the jersey looks bad, so they banned it. It is 100% a look thing.
    I agree with their decision, but I wish they just said the real reason

    Put the bottle on your back

    • @triathlonsushi
      @triathlonsushi Před měsícem

      I'm actually thinking about it. Depends on the person and how we sit, but if the backpack is optimally formed, it will give us some aero benefits.

    You had probably no aero gain with a bottle inside the suit, due to that you already had a bottle between the arms. If you wouldnt have the bottle on the bars Im pretty sure even you would find and aero gain

  • @neilwilliams9494

    You will all be in the same situation and it's not just aimed at you. Have you seen the video of Sam Ludlow trying to stuff a gallon bag of fluid down his shirt, he could hardly get to his bike it was slipping out of his hands. It was ridiculous. If everyone is following the same rules there should be no problem.

  • @Amanda_K_001
    @Amanda_K_001 Před měsícem

    So not aero for you but aero for others to include the top athletes? That's why the rules changed, annoying as it is , blame Magnus! In other questions, what kind of bike computer mount do you have on the bars?

  • @vozzen
    @vozzen Před měsícem

    Yes, banning the bottle between your chest is stupid. I don’t really understand why you would ban it, even if it was just used as a fairing. It’s not dangerous?
