In my humble opinion David Daws is the finest cornet soloist the Salvation Army has ever had… I know thats going out on a limb, but I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that. His artistry is beyond compare…. His tone is superb, his technique is second to none, and I would say he could easily hold his own with the top cornet soloists throughout the world…YES…HE’S THAT GOOD !!!

David Daws Was A Solo cornet Player in Our Band at Greenford Salvation Army. He was Taught by Lots of People and That Included My Dad, Bandmaster Alan Barrett, a Master Musician In Every Way, a Superb All Round Christian Example to Many Salvationists over the years!! We Lost My Dad in 2012 and He is Now in Heaven Leading the Lords Brass Band in Heaven. May Him and My Mum rest in peace Forever. Former S A Trombone/Euphonium Soloist and Bandmaster Andrew Barrett. I have Listened to this Solo Many times, and I Would Suggest being a Trombone/Euphonium Soloist Myself, that David,s Performance of this Wonderful Solo, is the finest the Royal Alberto Hall has Ever witnessed!! Bandmaster Andrew Barrett. Greenford S.A. Band (David Dawes was Taught by My Dad B/M Alan Barrett at our Corps as A Young Bandsman in his Early Days). "May God Bless Him Forever"!!

If David had not have played for a Salvation Army band I'm sure he would have been good enough to play principal cornet for any band whatsoever . Great upload , thank you .

What a player. This must have been recorded not long before his lip fell apart. So sad to not see him return to his full exellency on cornet but he seems to be turning the world alight on Trombone and Euphonium.

Nice one! First heard this way back in 1973/74 at Paisley Citadel with the Orebro1 Sa band from Sweden.
