- In 1989 the Belle Stars finally had a big U.S. chart hit, when "Iko Iko" reached number 14 on the Billboard Top 100 in March, after it was included on the soundtrack of the film Rain Man, starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. The song had been a favourite of Hoffman's. Jennie Matthias toured the US to promote the song.

Dustin hoffman is one the most well versed and great actors. Not a big tom cruise fan tho lol, i hated how he treated Raymond poorly but he definitely learned and by the end I almost cried when he said goodbye.
But still, i love Dustin Hoffman, and this movie is definitely my favorite tom cruise movie

@@jackwiliams7938 except this film hasn't really aged well in recent years, because people who are autistic themselves have called out this film for it's inaccurate portrayal of autism and as well as having someone who isn't on the spectrum to play the character. But dang the TikTok version is catchy!

One person that has autism may portray something absolutely different from another person with autism.... and so on and so on. The character attributes are usually never the same from one person to the next. The way that Dustin Hoffman portrayed an autistic person could be spot on to a real person with autism but at the same time be completely different from another person with autism.

A huge favourite of mine for as long as I have been alive. Not as old as the song is but can remember listening to this as a kid, 35 now. This is my fovourite version cause of the energy it brings to the original version and because of how they nailed the drums for it. perfection!

Tom really like this song. As i recalled, it was in Days of Thunder, MI2 and Rain Man. Diff versions.
Jimmy Fallon didn't bring me here, Rain Man did. Such an amazing song, and it fit the movie so well!

Barry Levinson who directed the film said in the director's commentary of the film that the reason why the song is in the film is because he liked the song but he never knew what they were singing about-and they movie is very much about communication or lack thereof

I heard that another reason was that Dustin Hoffman liked the song.
“Iko Iko”, like “Dem bones, dem bones”... titles with repetition. The same repetition in Charlie and Ray’s routines.
It directly relates to the story... Two different worlds coming together, clashing at first, but then making peace and amends, blending well together in peace. Song was written about two Indian chiefs having a small interaction with each other per chance a and all....
I've heard this song decades ago but had no idea that it was made for the Rain Man movie.
In any case, it's a truly great party song.

Fell in love with this when I bought the soundtrack from Rain Man. It's been around forever, Dixie Stars did it good but this version is my favorite.

Considering that apparently someone turned this into a song about partying with your friends and completely forgot it was a song about Krewes, I wish it'd been forgotten.

This was probably the best version of the song, and I am not being bias about the film it appeared on. I think the 80s, along with the 70s, might have been the last great decade of films; E.T., Rain Man, Roger Rabbit, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones trilogy, Ghostbusters, Crocodile Dundee, Tron, Chariots of Fire, Flash Gordon, I could go on and on. I know the 90s had it's share of classics, like Jurassic Park, Toy Story, The Full Monty and Disney Renaissance flicks like Beauty and the Beast & Aladdin, along with now (2010s) with La La Land & Inside Out but nothing comes close to the 70s & 80s. I don't know, maybe it's me but there something spectacular about those two decades in filmmaking.
