Her performance is unique! Her existing audio recordings make me believe she's the most complete Manon ever. Coquettish, genuinely youthful, deep and intense. Her ability to sing dramatically but always with utmost good taste and respect to the French style is amazing. She studied with De Rezké and was one of the last perfect examples of French singing, with a clean, impeccable technique. Brazil must remember this woman who was its greatest singer ever!
What more could you ask? Perfect French diction, clearly articulated vocal line, refined coloratura technique, and a timbre that can melt your heart. Brava, Bidu!

Today, March 12th, 2022, marks the 23rd anniversary of her death. One of the finest Brazilian singers ever. I can only imagine the concert on the other side of the veil: Bidu Sayão, Montserrat Caballé, Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Renata Tebaldi... what a line-up!
I am Brazilian, too, but I must disagree. Brazil still has many great opera and popular singers. What happens is that they don't get the attention the media and the population gives to fake singers of trash music. We still have even classical composers who keep working despite few or no estimulation to the Arts here...
Bidu Sayao wanted so much to sing Puccini, but she respected her light voice and played the roles that was made for her voice. She was a very wise woman! I love her voice and, yes she was one of the best Brazillian singers and had the opportunity to sing on Met. I am very proud of her! I hope that other brazillian singers have the same opportunity that she had. We have a lot of talented singers there in Brazil.
Umagrande cantora recohhecida mundialmente e que deveria ser motivo de todos nos brasileiros. Infellizmete não é o que ocorre. Mesmo aclamada e respeitada lá fora, morreu desconhecida pelo grande público em nosso país. No mesmo ano em que foi vaiada injustamente no Teatro Municipal, o soprano de voz pequena, mas com um belíssimo timbre e delicadeza vocal fizeram da sua estreia no MET um sucesso mais do que merecido.
Além de cantar muito Bidu Sayão interpretava! Hoje temos artistas mancos que sabem fazer apenas uma coisa e já são venerados! Gostaria que nossa lei de incentivo à cultura resgatasse esses nomes e servisse realmente ao propósito da grande arte!

Voz educada, consciente, orientada, mas nada impressionante. O que fez Bidu Sayão se tornar uma das grandes foi seu desejo incontrolável de interpretar e de atuar. Foi uma ótima atriz, o que era incomum para os sopranos da época. Como atriz foi impecável. Como soprano foi correta, cantava direito, pois reconhecia suas limitações e dominava as técnicas necessárias.
Discordo, ela foi uma cantora excepcional com uma excelente técnica, excelente timbre, clareza na dicção, realmente uma voz de cristal e ainda era uma ótima atriz pois amava o que fazia.
A respeito de Carmen Monarcha concordo completamente!!!!!! gostaria muito que fosse mais contratada e aparecesse mais!!! prefiro ela a etrebko....sem patriotadas!
Je ne suis pas enthousiaste sur cette chanteuse .Certes ,une flatteuse réputation la précède ,et sa voix est ravissante mais assez petite .On dirait qu'elle est plus faite pour l'operette que pour de grands ouvrages .En outre ici elle est déjà âgée et le personnage de Manon ne lui correspond plus vraiment .Enfin il y a en general , à la fin de la gavotte ,un contre Ré ,.. où est il passé ? Beaucoup d'autres cantatrices aujourd'hui chantent ce role de facon plus brillante et avec toutes les notes ( Fleming ,Netrebko ,Massy ...)

Actually, I find Sills' interpretation of this aria has more depth and color, but I do enjoy Sayao.
