Hi Kevin, I saw a video of a guy changing the clutch on a VW Touran. He struggled for 1.5 hours to put the gearbox back into the motor. Was nearly the same engine and the same gearbox. It always looks so easy with you, but I know exactly how difficult it is lying under the car. Fantastic work!!
@@WMCS Hi Kevin, here is the link to the video czcams.com/video/Cvnpb2j7QTY/video.html . It's in German but I think you can see his frustration at putting in the gearbox.
Well done , very well planned , and with good attention to the small details , doing stuff like dropping gear boxs on your own , can be soul destroying when you outside , working with limited space , muck dropping down your neck , getting cold and wet . Keep at it sir , hard work always pays off !
Boy you are strong..... When you removed the whole gearbox like a weight lifter you definitely became my hero... Gonna do the job diy later this summer on my tdi. Amazing how You made it SEEM so easy (and it's not) Congrats again on such skills!
@@danieledarugna8981 Not Kev but another mechanic here; no mate, as long as you don't break into the system and do it as Kev does it, no need to bleed it.
@@bigbill74scots Thank you for the support! I got the job done a couple of weeks ago and yes I see what you mean (it was a silly question). Many many thanks
Is there a dual mass flywheel on these engines? Is it better to change with clutch? I have an octavia that it difficult to get into gear and the bite is high on the pedal, but the pedal feels good. I think its just the clutch.
Great job, I love watching you turn a difficult job into a seemingly easy job. I have seen so many videos that I almost already know the steps to disassemble a clutch hahahahaha. A question. At minute 4.10. Why do you disassemble this part in the VAG group?
VAG are honestly my favourite cars to work on..,, I’m pretty sure the engineers took into account it’s gonna end up in a workshop for maintenance..,, everything is well laid out.
THank you for the very helpful video, would that have taken 2 to 2.5 hours to that job? I have a Golf that had a really bad clatter in the flywheel, the guy I bought it off had a mechanic look at it and said a new flywheel will fix it. After getting a quote for $2,500 AUD the owner decided to sell the car cheap. The mechanic was half right but it also had a dead injector, after replacing the injector it runs much better but the flywheel is still making some noise and the clutch is not good. The mechanic did not bother to check the DTC's.
This particular repair. With an intermediate experience I’d say it shouldn’t take more than 5 hours to completion.., in my opinion. Thanks for your input on our forum.
Hello! Nice work, congratulations! I would like to ask. Is the flywheel double in this passat? If I saw well the car with manually the gearbox is fitted. I have one too and I can't decide what kind of flywheel to buy ... :( Can you help? Thanks.
On the VAG engines DMF only starts from 1.9 onwards ., I don’t think you’ll need to replace the solid flywheel. In my opinion go for a SACHS or LUK clutch kit.
Hi Kevin Brilliant work mate Think I need a clutch replacement on caddy 2015 1.6 tdi as getting vibration when I press clutch pedal whilst driving . Where about you based bud ? Kind regards Craig Williams
Do you rate single mass flywheel conversation on passat estate 1.9tdi.or should i go dual mass the car is only a school run car now.and which make do you recommend, thanks in advance lee👍
Hi Lee.., I wouldn’t really rate it. For an extra £100 you can probably get the DMF with the proper kit. You will lose the buffer between engine torque and gearbox .,, quite juddery .after that conversion.
I’m considering doing a Clutch Replacement myself on a Seat Leon 5F 1.6TDI which has the same block/gearbox. Can I ask how much the gearbox assembly weighs, before I give this a go? I am a little concerned some places suggest gearboxes can weigh in the region of 100KG, however being a 5-speed manual I’m hoping it’s closer to 50-60KG... If someone who has attempted this on a VAG 1.6TDI can please put my mind at rest Id really appreciate it 😊
Daniel.., Gearboxes are generally heavy lumps ... your vehicle’s one should be about 60KG... it’s always good to have an extra pair of hands for safety.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, and thank you for the excellent video. Will deffo be giving this a go! Kevin Albert-Williams you are the man!

Got the clutch already replaced @ 63 K miles, but on warm engine rattle can heard which goes away when clutch pedal is pressed. I was told it has single mass flywheel so rattle may be from gearbox "neutral gear rollover", or maybe release bearing? Rattle heard here: czcams.com/video/cc3KjfkH0A0/video.html
Definitely the gearbox from that noise. It’s the main shaft bearing. It can be done in situ without dropping the box. All you’ll need is a bearing puller. At the back end of the box there is a big rubber cap. Pop that off and it’s that bearing at the end. Hope that helps.
@@WMCS Thanks, might need to contact you for this job (input or output shaft bearing). It's a MQ250 PGH gearbox, looks like it has a casting cover instead of rubber cap. I guess oil must be drained and replaced as well?
I totally respect this guy's balls to carry out all this work outside !!
