  • In this video I review the Sennelier La Petite Aquarelle Travel Box Watercolor Set. The Sennelier la Petit set comes in a high quality squarish white plastic box that. Current sets available for purchase in the USA have 12 half pans, 24 half pans or 12 tubes. The colors are surprisingly bright and vibrant for student grade paints. I found these student grade watercolor paints to be quite transparent. The colors also retain the layer ability and luminosity of the artist grade paints. Overall I found the paints to be perfect for beginners or crafters or adult coloring book artists looking for something that is affordable as well as high quality.
    As of this writing I have been unable to locate open stock half pans or tubes however I am certain that open stock items for the la Petit line will be available at some point.
    Dick Blick has the sets of 12 half pans for $15, 24 half pans for $27.50 and the set of 12 tubes for $25. Considering the very high quality and the fact that these paints are made in france I consider these paints ideal for the crafter or the new artist.

    Thanks for the review! Just an FYI, I like to use an empty saline nasal spray bottle from the Dollar Tree and fill it with distilled water to pre-wet the watercolors. When you use distilled water it decreases the chance of causing molding of the watercolors. However, it’s not an issue with honey based (Sennelier and M. Graham) watercolors which prevents molding.

    Thanks Karia. I‘m really pleased with La Petite... but still not sure if it‘s gonna be these or Schmicke Akadamie. Here in Germany both are easy to buy... as sets or single pots. Anyway: thx Karia for all of your videos

      I heard Akademie uses the same pigments as Horadam (Schmincke's artist grade). The difference is that Akademie is vegan and doesn't use ox gall (dispersant) and probably isn't poured 4x unlike the Horadam. I guess that's why it's an expensive student grade but very high quality

    Hello, im just curious, is the palette able to stay flat 180 degrees? I just noticed that there always seem to be little movements in the palette when you touch them and the mixing area is a bit angled. Im looking for a travel palette and this seems perfect but if it cant stay flat, im afraid the water will fall out. Thanks so much for this helpful review.

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  Před 6 lety +1

      Im not sure how helpful this is. I don’t think it’s always 100% flat. BUT the sides are rounded up so that nothing really falls out. As a travel palette this is a great!

    hi, are the pans removable/ replaceable if I ever decided to buy artist halfpans?

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes and no. For the set of 12 there is a middle section where you can add six half pans. The professional sennelier fit perfectly. As far as I know the 24 color set may not have this section.

    My favorite inexpensive art supply (at the moment LOL) is a set of Marie's soft pastels that are water soluble. They are from JerrysArtarama and I think they have changed the name from Marie's to Generals? When I got them the were $10.99 for a set of 48 but they had gone up to 14.99 when I saw them at Jerry's a few weeks ago.

      +fairythere that's awesome. I feel like a lot of soft pastels are water soluble. Still that's a great price! I will check it out!

    Oh hey, since you mentioned what the syringe is for maybe you can help me. I made a boo boo, kind of a bigish one apparently. I did not know you can't, let me reword that... you SHOULDN'T put India ink in a fountain penand I did. Now I'm wondering if there is a way to un goop it all cuz nothing is moving at all. Will soaking the nib in alcohol work or make it worse? Or do nothing? I'd hate to just throw the pen away, it was the first one I ever bought, but not expensive thankfully. Ok, now I can watch the video haha. My memory is awful so I had to do this before I forgot 😊

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  Před 5 lety +3

      Unless it’s a lot more expensive I like the sennelier set better. They layer better and are easier to work! But don’t forget to pre wet the paints.

      +Lili-mai Ashley the student grade stuff is VERY new. I think maybe a year.

    • @chaosdestructionlove

      ColoringKaria ah I see. Makes sense, id looked before and only seen artist grade expensive sets. Still great that they've started that up, I used their inks a lot when I first started out and never really could afford their other stuff. Plus besides the yellow ochre, they all look pretty damn good.

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  Před 7 lety +1

      +Lili-mai Ashley yes they do! And too be fair I also was unhappy with a similar color from Winsor Newton cotman so it might be the color!

    • @chaosdestructionlove
      @chaosdestructionlove Před 7 lety +1

      ColoringKaria in my experience the yellow ochre tend to be like that for student sets. A sort of muddy greenish orange yellow....That said it's really good for making anything look sepia coloured. Ups and downs to it all. C': I think the general kuretake watercolour paints (not sure what type they are, student or artist) is pretty good at getting a vivid colour pallette without too many super bad chemicals.

    ColoringKaria, can you give a recommendation? Sennelier la petite aquarelle half pans or sennelier aqua mini set of 8?
    Thanks! And here's hoping for a response (thank you)🍎🍀

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  Před 6 lety +3

      Wow that’s a tough choice! Hmmm. Oh that’s so tough. And there is a sennelier tester pack. So my choice of order is depends on if you know how to mix your own colors. If you so then the order I suggest is as follows 1- sennelier tester pack watercolor, 2- aqua mini and 3- la petite
      If you do NOT know how to mix your own colors the order I suggest is as follows: 1- la petite (you can replace the pans with artist grade paints as you run out) 2- aqua mini 3- sennelier tester
      But really any one that you get will be awesome.

    I can’t even. That syringe... you know you can use your waterbrush for the same purpose right? To see you fiddle with the syringe to add water to the mixing area when you had the brush right there....
    I think you’d like my glass bottle with rubber dropper bulb. It’s nice. More control. Although I usually just use the brush as my water source.

      They are different brands. Sennelier has two lines this one and a professional line.
