Thank you for doing the whole concert. Queen spent a lot of time deciding which songs to do and in what order. When you watch the whole concert you really do get the flow that they had intended to deliver. You also get to see how Freddie works the stage during a concert. It just makes sense to do the show as a single unit. The build up and the climax just makes it so much better. The story of the mic is a simple one. At a show, the mic broke away from the stand. In Freddie's typical professional character, he just continued with the mic without the bass. He liked it because he was able to move around so much more without the weight of the base. From that time on, Freddie carried the mic. Even when the cords were eventually removed from the mics, Freddie continued to carry the post attached to his mic. Freddie even said he didn't like when he lost the cord, that it was a big adjustment for him to have to figure out what todo with that hand now that he didn't have to hold the cord. Set List: "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Radio Ga-Ga", Call and Response (Ay-Oh), "Hammer To Fall", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions."

Any other artist, even in current times, who used a half mic would risk being accused of copying Freddie, and who would want to be compared with him regarding performance style, voice or charisma? Decades went by before artists started covering Queen songs. Who could do them better?

The shortest 20 minutes in the musical history that rocked the world.
That bottomless mic was a part of Freddie's body 🤣, no one else would been so authentic with that.
As a massive fan of Jimi Hendrix, Freddie taught himself to play the guitar, but after some point he gave up on the idea. In live situations he only played rhythm guitar on Crazy Little Thing Called Love. (That song was born in Freddie's bathtube in Munich in10 minutes.Really.) Brian told about Freddie: He was very good on the guitar, very unorthodox, he had a frenetic energy on the guitar.

Each band in Live Aid only had 20 minutes to perform. Queen brought their performance in at 20 minutes and 10 seconds!! What precision! What timing! What hard work to shorten each song just enough to fit in 6 songs in 20 minutes!! No one else on stage that day did that. And NO ONE else involved the audience the way Queen did! INCOMPARABLE QUEEN!! INCOMPARABLE FREDDIE!!

What made me watch this in a new perspective, was until the movie, I did not know this was the "first" time his Father ever saw him perform, his Dad I don't believe was very supportive in his sons choice of career, not knowing what a super star he really was or how loved he truly was by his fans and just how much the band loved their fans, until this performance. He got his Dad to watch it because he made it clear to his Dad that it was giving help to people in need which his Father was very big on.

This performance is even more impressive when you realize that Freddie had laryngitis the week before. His doctor recommended that he skip the concert and rest his voice, but he ignored the advice and went on to make rock history. Another interesting video to watch is "The Story of Queen at Live Aid". The crowd was happy but surprised to see Queen on stage; since they had signed on late, they weren't on the advertised list of performers.

It actually isn't a bottomless microphone , it is a Microphone BOOM ARM. It is used for recording drum Hi Hats, and many singers use it on stage because the arm "He is Holding " connects to the upright microphone stand with an adjustable clamp and allows the main microphone stand base , to be placed out of the way of the performer with the boom arm sticking out so as not to interfere with playing guitar etc...

  • @anne-mariesindruprix4792

Somebody calls Bohemian Rhapsody the second national anthem in UK -and everybody can sing it! Freddie uses the mike as a prop. all members of Queen are multiistrumentalists. And composers - the only one that rarely sings is John Deacon , the others are lead singers in their own bands and have solo carriers as well. Roger made an album 'Outsider' under lock down where he sings and play all the instruments!! And in "Crazy little thing called love" - the title you asked for - Brian plays 3 guitars - first the 12 stringed acoustic guitar - then something - a black Stratocaster?? and then his homebuilt "Red Special" that is by his side since he built it with his father at about 17 years old. We will rock you was written by Brian to give the crowd an opportunity to participate in the concert - and actually it should have no instruments - only clapping and stamping. Now you only need to - and I urge you to - listen to one of the last songs in the evening - when Brian and Freddie performs "Is this the world we created"? - it seems to be fitting as closing to a concert collecting money to help the starving people in Ethiopia. You can find it somewhere else on CZcams . Thank you for your reaction. By the way David Bowie and Elton John was there as well one said "you bastards" the other said How shall anybody beat that - or something like that.

They did not put one of the many songs John wrote in the set...and they say he was fine with it cause their musical message needed to satisfy a world-wide audience. (John's "Another One Bites The Dust' is even a No. 1 hit for Queen) . Queen is in so many ways, a great group of guys.. Hey, I enjoyed your beautiful reaction - thanks much.

Before there was Queen, Freddie performed with a British band called "Ibex" later renamed "Wreckage" out of Liverpool. During a performance, he pulled to remove the mic from the stand but it was stuck. So he pulled really hard and the mic stands separated. As a performer, he continued on with the performance using the mic with the half-mic stand attached and actually found he liked it. This mic stand gave him a prop to work with on stage (it was a baton, a guitar, a sword, an exercise bar, and yes, sometimes a penis).
Freddie was always agile on stage. He managed to avoid all of the wires that were on the stage floor, especially Brian's guitar chord. Brian moved around on stage while playing his guitar (which I suspect is much more difficult than chewing gum and walking at the same time) but seldom gave any thought to where his chord was. Freddie managed to dance around the stage and avoid not only his own chord but Brian's and John's while maintaining the beat.
    List of Queen's performance:
    1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar sections)
    2. Radio Gaga
    3. Freddie's call and response with the audience
    4. Hammer To Fall
    5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
    6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo)
    7. We Are The Champions

Freddie wouldn't consider himself a guitarist as such but was above learner level, he taught himself.
CLTCL he wrote on guitar and plays rhythm on the track.
he also wrote ogre battle on guitar Brian was surprised he wrote a heavy riff for it
Freddie later also wrote the heavy riff for bohemian rhapsody on guitar
a few others but I'm not sure on his songs Brian wrote the solo but Freddie wrote the other guitar parts but normally on piano
love of my life Freddie wrote parts on guitar but Brian then transcribed the entire composition to suit the 12 string acoustic and just the two of them performed it live

The Bottomless or baseless microphone DOES have a story....early, early days performing with Queen, Freddie accidentally had a microphone stand mishap where the microphone malfunctioned and it came apart on its own. Freddie didn't skip a beat, just ignored it and acted like nothing went wrong. From then on, he chose to use the microphone that was on purpose and it became a kind of trademark of his. The ticket didn’t have Queen listed and they were worried it wasn’t a Queen crowd, but as you saw every crowd is a Queen crowd. A different Queen ruled England for 20 minutes that day! It was said over 2 billion people watched Live Aid and was the largest TV broadcast in history for that time period. That 20 minutes is considered one of-the best live concert in history. Queen was magic, those 4 men made music together like no other, from Brian’s red special guitar to Deacy’s amp the group was unsurpassed.
