  • Porcupine Rim bike trail is one of the must ride biking trails of Moab. The trail can be shuttled via a number of companies affiliated with the bikes shops in Moab. The Porcupine sequence of trails may include a number of the segments (Singletrack, UPS and LPS) from The Whole Enchilada, but today's ride is confined to the main Porcupine Rim trail, which is about 18km long, along a gentle -5% grade. The lower section will take you out along a long ledgy, bench-cut overlooking the Colorado River, and comes with several advanced technical sections that you may choose to session or walk as needed.

    UPS down is my go-to ride in Moab. You just smile the whole way, an utter blast of a huck fest all the way down.

      Yes, UPS down is the way to ride Porcupine…the upper trails aren’t so rewarding and scenic! But Captain Ahab is also pretty special! Thanks for watching!

    love the videos Ron. just want ask you about the shuttle rides on this system. looking to book online for shuttle rides, but every company that I look at have most 7am shuttle rides. do you know if any of them do later shuttles? thanks

      I have used both Poison Spider and Chile Pepper for the shuttle to Porcupine, and both have departures a little later, I think about 9am but you should call first to verify. However, their earlier departures might be because of the daytime heat this time of year. They are both great but I might lean to Poison Spider due to their location in town and the slightly shorter ride back into town from the bottom of Porcupine to where your vehicle is parked. This trail is one of my all time favourites…enjoy! And if you have time, check out the Captain Ahab trail as well, but you won’t need a shuttle for that.

    How long was the ride from the time the shuttle dropped you off?

    • @ronsanderson99
      @ronsanderson99  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Good question! It really depends upon where the shuttle drops you. This time of year it depends upon weather and snow conditions further up the mountains. They try to drop you as high up as they can, and then you ride as much of the Whole Enchilada (which includes Porcupine Rim) as you can during the descent. If I can, I like to start my descent on UPS or LPS which are just above Porcupine, because there are some cool slab rolls but during the ride for this video they just dropped us at Porcupine Rim. When you factor all this in, and depending upon your skill on technical trails, the descent can take between two and four hours. But, it is an awesome ride!!
